I…read morereceived a game where you scratch off things to do based on a city in Massachusetts depending on the time of year, weather, time of day, etc. We saw that Seekonk is only about 45 mins from us and it was a Saturday. The card was for Saturday night. Perfect! We scratched and it said see a race at the Seekonk Speedway. We are from the west coast and my husband is a car guy so this sounded like an awesome idea. This is a far cry from what we were expecting, but we had such a fun time. The speedway was packed! We had to park way out in the back lot in the grass. Tickets were for a special event trailer bashing or something. We walked around the whole area, grabbed snacks and found some seats by the family of one of the race car drivers. We got to learn all the rules of each different race and be included in the energy. It was so much more fun than I could have bargained for.

I participated in Gallery Night Providence on August 15th for the first time. There were 5…read moredifferent guided tours visiting different art spaces in Providence leaving from the Graduate Hotel at 11 Dorrance Street and the WaterFire Arts Center at 475 Valley Street at different times. I chose the 5:00 pm tour leaving from the Graduate Hotel with a friend. I registered through Eventbrite and made a donation to guarantee our spot on the tour. Half of the seats on the trolley or mini coach will always be available (first-come, first-served), completely free, to anyone who shows up on Gallery Night. The other half of the seats are available to those that reserve in advance via Eventbrite by making a donation. If you are reserving multiple tickets like I did, Eventbrite requires a separate reservation for each ticket since each order is only for one ticket. Eventbrite also charges a small fee ($0.03). A confirmation email was sent on the day of reservation and reminder email was sent earlier in the week about the event. On August 15th, my friend and I checked in at the podium with a Gallery Night banner near the main entrance. We were handed a pamphlet with a list of the different tours and all the galleries on view. Around 5:00pm, we met our Gallery Night Guide Jenn Wilson and walked to the mini coach. I'm glad we chose the trolley/mini coach tour instead of the walking tour, because there was torrential downpour of rain for pretty much the whole duration of our tour. Our first stop was at Galerie le Domaine at Domain Properties (a real estate office). At this gallery, we saw the works of Neal Walsh. Walsh's work is primarily abstract, inspired by seasonal shifts of light, the elemental forces of nature, and an everlasting faith in the elegance of ferns and the song of the wood thrush. This exhibit title "Our days are weatherworn" is from the poem, "The Goneness of Lost Things" by Don Domanski. Walsh hopes the paintings evoke invisible threads, a bit of mystery, a spark of recognition, and perhaps a lost memory of connection in the viewer. The pieces were interesting to see and definitely gave me feels. It was also cool to see artwork on a mantle and on top of a couch compared to the usual art studio or gallery. Second stop was Anahid Ypres Art Studio located on the 3rd floor of 118 N Main St. At the studio, we saw pieces by artist Anahid Ypres and guest artist Fior De La Cruz. There were big pieces with vibrant colors and even pieces using fluorescent paint. These pieces were beautiful. There were also cups of wine, mini bottles of water, and snacks (peanuts and pistachios). The third and final stop was Providence Art Club. We spent time looking at pieces by young artists affiliated with Riverzedge Arts of Woonsocket. The young artists are so talented! There was a reception with cheese and we had the opportunity to meet some of the artists and talk about their work. Around 7:00pm, we arrived back at the Graduate. Time went by so quickly and I had such a great evening. Jenn was a great guide and very personable and friendly. In between stops, she would talk about RISD, Brown, downtown Providence, and encourage us to think about the art setting and the artwork we were looking at. Each of the galleries we visited were different and stunning in their own way. I am definitely interested in participating in another Gallery Night Providence. It'll always be a unique experience since there are different galleries and different works displayed.

Theatre by the Sea is a jewel. From strolling through the gardens before the show, to sipping a drink at the outdoor bar, to the show itself, the whole Theatre by the Sea experience is lovely from start to finish. There is also a bistro where you can enjoy dinner, but we have yet to experience it. We most recently saw "Always" (the Patsy Cline story). The acting was fantastic, and the singing voices of the two leads was top notch. Last year we saw Beautiful, the Carol King story and again, the talent was incredible. Our first show at Theatre by the Sea was Mary Poppins, and it was so much fun watching Mary fly over the audience with her parrot head umbrella in hand. We opt for orchestra seats whenever possible and have always been able to see the show weel from the floor. We have sat in the balcony before, but once you get beyond the first two rows of balcony seating, it is difficult to see over the heads of the people in front of you. We love it there and I hope that once you visit Theatre by the Sea, you too will be captivated by this venue's charm and talent, and you will find yourself returning there over and over again.

What a cool place to catch some live music! Such an intimate setting, comfortable seating, not a bad view in the place! Located in an old mill building, the stage set up and chairs is located on the third floor. There is an elevator to access for those who prefer to arrive to their seats unwinded. A quick check of your tickets and you're on your way! The venue is BYO food and drink, which honestly is such a cool concept given most venues are overcharging for these things left and right. They do have a small cafe with coffee, bottled sodas, and some treats for purchase if you come empty handed. They are also located next to a brewery where you can pick up some goodies as well. Parking is a breeze - free on street as well as an available lot behind the building. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and made the whole experience an enjoyable one overall. I cannot wait to come back!

I especially enjoyed learning about the region's Native American history and how thoughtfully the exhibits were organized. I will say that I did find myself walking through some parts more than once - it could just be me not being able to find my way around easily, but I didn't find it easy or intuitive to navigate. The Pequot village was definitely my favorite part. Walking through the recreated village felt immersive and realistic, and it really brought the history to life in a meaningful way - especially listening to the audio guide. The attention to detail made it easy to imagine what daily life may have been like centuries ago. Overall, it was an educational and memorable visit -- 4 out of 5 stars!

This fair was sooooo much fun!…read more The cattle and pigs were adorable and seeing the ribbons they had won was exciting. I only wish they had a petting zoo. I loved walking around and seeing all of the wares brought to the fair - from hand made jewelry to tapestries to wood signs and all kinds of beautiful trinkets! I really enjoyed the fried dough - fresh and hot and perfect with tons of powdered sugar! I played several games and won some prizes which was expensive but a fun time anyway. The only thing I did not do at this fair was ride the rides - they had all of the classics - the rock and roller, the zipper, the music express. This is a great place for a family to spend the day or the entire weekend!

I saw lots of people covering their ears with their hands. They are supposed to enhance the fair, not become the main event. Like most, when attending a fair I looked forward to fried dough. The fire department running the "Delicious Doughboys" spot must be reheating their product, or they don't know how to cook it. The worst fried dough I've ever had - overcooked and crunchy. They probably don't think anyone notices, we do. I also suspect they left the powdered sugar out in the rain, so it got wet and clumped together. Animal displays all good and free parking.
