I am a few hours away from the Spokane area. Parkway Auto Sales had a GMC diesel pickup for sale…read morefor a reasonable price. Reading the reviews it was suggested to have the vehicles inspected by a mechanic because they conceal mechanical issues. So I talked to my mechanic and he said do a balance check on the injectors, compression check, transmission and emissions using a scanner. I called around the Spokane area and ended up talking to Terry's Truck Center and told them I had a deal with Parkway Auto Sales. I had to buy the truck get a mechanic within 150 miles roundtrip and inspected the same day as purchased. If it needed more then $1000 in repairs they would take the truck back. I wanted the test mentioned earlier and if they able to perform the test. They said they could. I had to get a ride there so I could drive the truck back. A few days later I called Terry's Truck Center and made an appointment and told them of the scan test I wanted done. They were nice enough to allow a window between 12 and 2 o'clock. I then called the dealer and told them I would but the truck the day I had the appointment. I bought the truck dropped it off with the statement wanted the big money items checked. That being the balance of the injectors, compression, transmission and emission working in good order. I was told no problem. Then we went to lunch. I got a call during lunch stating the truck was done and 11 items needed done and if I wanted them to work on it. The list consisted of small items and told them no I will drive it home. When I got to the shop there was a page with 23 lines on it. Lines 1-11 had the items needing attention with no estimate of cost to fix each item. I aske them what the injector balance was. They said they did not perform that or the compression because they do not have the software program for a Duramax. I asked them how am I supposed to know if the truck has major issues. I was told they scanned all the codes and every thing looked good but said we don't have a crystal ball to know how long anything will last. I left with $125 less in my wallet and without the test I wanted. I took the truck over to my friends house. We opened the hood and within a minute he found 3 sensors on the engine disconnected. Then looking under the truck all of the emissions were missing off the exhaust. So the emissions I wanted tested and they said were good had been deleted and do not exist on this truck. So 3 of the 4 test were not performed or looked at. The transmission is anybody's guess what they did there. Turns out 1 thing on the list was a rusty right rear caliper will need to be replaced soon. If you looked under the truck it had dirt\manure about 4 inches deep all over the undercarriage and the dealer sprayed black paint over the mixture missing the rear rotor. The dealer cleaned the outer frame and wheel wells then spray painted them so you did not see the dirt\manure painted over unless you went under the truck. So my biggest problem is lying about what service they can provide. Lying that the emissions was fine. Leaving me with a vehicle which could have major issues and I have to pay my mechanic to do the right test. How could you look under a vehicle and not see dirt\manure had been sprayed over by black paint. Not notice the straight newer looking exhaust with patchy black over spray on it but no emissions. Both of these should have been noted on the problem list. So this business has been in service for over thirty years and is BBB rated A+. So how do you get that rating and be in business for 30 years. They are either incompetent, Lazy or paid by the dealer (I had to put name, address and phone number on the agreement) to put down the truck looked good with minor issues. Still don't see the need to lie. i can see why the dealer hides issues to make profit, but the mechanic should look out for my personal interest since I am paying him and they make money regardless of the outcome.
