My electric bills were high and my house was not as comfortable as desired. I had been researching and had already decided on American Standard Systems, and he helped me to choose their top-of-the-line variable speed high-efficient systems. I had him replace both systems completely (the attic and outside units) and it was a great choice! The first year even with increased electric rates, I saved over $1000 from the previous year. More importantly, my home is more comfortable. When it's hot outside, it's not in my house (even if the door open). When it's cold, the variable speed allows the units to gently heat my home without the sudden "in your face" heat blast that our old systems provided that would stuff us awake in the middle of the night. The systems are great! His expertise is exceptional, and his crews are excellent! I recently had him come and do a pre-summer check-up which the first two are no charge with my systems. The downstairs unit worked properly from day one, but the upstairs unit never functioned correctly. The company also failed to obtain the required permit for the installation, which can be verified through the City of Bellaire permitting website. Since installation, the upstairs unit failed to properly cool the home, could not maintain the thermostat set temperature, and leaked water into my attic. The owners, Justin Turner and Jared Hatfield, sent technicians to my home more than 30 times attempting repairs, but the issues were never resolved. By September 2025, after months of ongoing problems, I informed Jared Hatfield that I no longer trusted Douglas Mechanical and requested they remove the defective system and refund my money. Although their website advertises a one-year installation guarantee, they refused to honor it. Douglas Mechanical also sold me a 10-year labor warranty, but when I hired another HVAC company, I learned Douglas Mechanical had never properly paid for or secured that warranty. I hired Northwind AC to inspect the system. Their service manager stated it was one of the worst HVAC installs he had seen. They discovered the upstairs system did not have sufficient supply airflow due to improperly installed ductwork, which Douglas Mechanical had charged me extra to install. After spending additional money with Northwind AC to repair the ductwork and correct the installation issues, both systems now work properly. I have filed a complaint with TDLR and the better business bureau.
