WE WOULD LIKE TO WARN ANYONE CONSIDERING RENTING FROM RV RENTAL 4U (based in Kelowna) about the…read moreowner of this 'company' and share our experience with you. ZERO STARS! In late June I found the owner Sheldon's post on Craigslist advertising travel trailer rentals. His website, although basic, looked professional enough to make me feel comfortable renting from him. And because we could pay with Visa, I felt comfortable that we had some recourse if things did not go smoothly. I phoned him and negotiated a price for a 25' travel trailer with bunks for 5 days (Mon to Sat) in mid-July and provided a Visa card number over the phone for full payment. We were emailed a contract, which we signed and provided a different credit card number for the security/damage deposit and specific instructions not to use the Visa for anything other than the rental amount. The trailer was to be dropped off and set up at an RV resort just north of Kelowna. We agreed on a total amount for the rental, which included extra charges for delivery, set-up, take down, and removal from the RV Resort. His exact words were "all you have to do is show up". Keep in mind we paid $150/night for this trailer, which is what you would pay for a newer trailer from one of the large RV dealers. The experience was terrible from start to finish. I was very unhappy with the condition of the trailer and the terrible service and attitude of the owner Sheldon. The bunks (obviously for children) didn't have window coverings over them. Sunshine in the eyes of a 5 and 6 year old before 6am is not a great start to a vacation day. And it was dirty. I had to wash all of the dishes, pans and cutlery so that we could use them. And it was not properly stocked. No coffee maker (as advertised) and only 3 bowls (in a trailer advertised to sleep 6 people). And he didn't provide keys to lock it and when I asked if he could drop them off, he was rude and made me feel uncomfortable. Also, the shower curtain was mildewy and looked like it has not been replaced in years so we were grossed out about using the shower in the trailer. The trailer also wasn't set up when we arrived. The propane pilot light wasn't on so we had to fiddle around in the dark at the back of the trailer trying to get it lit. Finally one of the other people at the RV resort took pity and got her husband to help us. That man also went inside the trailer and noticed the water pump wasn't turned on so water was barely coming out of the taps. Really basic stuff but difficult for us to deal with because we had never used a trailer before. These were things that we paid extra for in the set up charge but weren't done. Sheldon was really difficult about us using the awning. He didn't open it up when he delivered the trailer. Two days later he finally gave us instructions on how to open it. That week there was a 40 degree heat wave and for 2-3 days we didn't have use of an awning to sit in the shade outside of our trailer. It made the heat very uncomfortable. It was old, dirty and the awning had black mildew spots on it. I didn't complain to Sheldon (other than asking 3 times to bring a coffee maker) and just tried to enjoy a much-needed and rare vacation with my husband and children. When we returned to the Lower Mainland from the Okanagan, we received a ranting email from Sheldon claiming that the awning of the trailer was ripped and without warning he charged our credit card $1000. We have witnesses that the awning was in perfect condition when we left and shared with him data from Environment Canada's website showing that there was a wind storm in the area (which could have possibly caused damage to an awning) but it was much later in the day that our rental ended. The RV resort has even confirmed that Sheldon had to be called because he was a number of hours late removing the trailer from the site that day. We're not sure if/how the awning was damaged but know 100% that it did not happen during our rental period and think Sheldon just saw an opportunity to replace a 10-year old awning at no cost to him. Be warned that if you give your credit card number to someone, you are essentially giving them permission to charge WHATEVER AMOUNT THEY WANT...even with a contract clearly telling the merchant not to use that credit card number for anything other than the rental amount. Upon closer examination of credit card statements, we have also since learned that Sheldon charged us over $900 for the rental right after my initial phone call, but we have a contract for $750. Be smart and look elsewhere for your RV Rental. As consumers, we can choose to not do business with shady businessmen and put an end to these types of practices.

A Masterclass in How Not to Run a Business…read more I almost never write bad reviews. Usually, if a company treats me poorly, I just take the loss and make a mental note to never deal with them again. But in this case, I feel a responsibility to warn others before they end up in the same mess. This trailer rental company is the definition of unprofessional. The customer service is nonexistent, the communication is a joke, and the owner--if that's who I've been speaking with--seems to treat customers like an inconvenience rather than the reason his business exists. Here's what happened: We had a death in the family and had to cancel a camping trip. This was outside their cancellation window, so I fully expected to lose my money. That part's fine. What's not fine is the circus act that came next. I've called multiple times to cancel, only to be told (by the same person) to send an email. I've sent that email. Not once, but multiple times. Every time, I'm told it "never arrived." No confirmation, no resolution, no idea whether our trailer is actually canceled--or if they're going to deliver it to an empty campsite and pretend this was all on me. At best, this is gross incompetence. At worst, it's a deliberate runaround to keep customers stuck. Either way, I wouldn't trust this company with my money, my trip, or my time. There are plenty of trailer rental companies out there--choose literally any other one.

Contacted them back in March to plan my yearly camping trip and thought to give trailers a try,…read moregave this company a call and secured a trailer (topaz 27 foot w/slide) sent my $200 deposit and closer to the arrival date went on to pay $1092 plus $134 (for delivery and pick up) it all seemed good BUT I found Sheldon to be abrupt, figured he was just having a bad day....called the day before arrival and he told me that the trailer would be delivered between 2-5 so instead of leaving so early we decided to leave by 8am, an hour and a half into our drive I got a call from him saying that he could be there by 11am of course that was great, luckily I had a family member already at the site that could receive the trailer since we were still quite far, the trailer was received and everything looked good when we inspected it upon our arrival. We were told to keep the keys in the storage compartment as quite often people lose them, found ourselves taking them with us one time since all of our valuables were inside and that is how the nightmare began, of course the keys went missing...optimistic that they would have a spare set we decided not to worry about it and just tell Sheldon (at least that is who I think came in to do the pick up), he came in and proceeded to start the "pick up process" never once introduced himself, asked for the keys and when I proceeded to tell him that they keys had gone missing he started raising his voice and saying that he had left specific instructions with my family member to not remove them and that he did not have spares (puzzled to how a business could have trailers that they rent and yet not have spare keys seemed strange) I was very apologetic and went on to take our minivan apart in order to try to find the keys, with no luck I came back to him (at this point he was in the car already to go and talking to someone about how we lost the keys) I once again apologized and he proceeded to tell me that he got the slide closed with his spare (I guess it magically appeared) so I once again apologized and said we would fed ex him the key as soon as we found it. Long story short the key was never found (it has been 2 weeks) and we got a final bill of $370 that included a charge of $150 for lost keys and $280 charge for 2 extra people, I emailed asking why I was charged for the 2 extra people and it turned into an accusation since my son and his girlfriend happen to be there waiting for us to leave together. He never bother to enquire, he assumed they slept in the trailer and proceeded with sarcastic remarks like "So that's why there was 3 vehicles at the trailer at pickup because they were helping you pack and send you on your way"... Well I guess it is a good thing that he did not come in when there was 4 sites and 19 people total or I would have been charged for 13 additional people. In the end after emailing back and forth the charges were adjusted but overall I will take my business elsewhere and hope that with this review I can spare someone of the unpleasantness of having to deal with Sheldon.

Be careful with this owner. We booked this well in advanced, at least a month, through outdoorsy…read more We ended up paying $160/night even though it was advertised at $114.00 with a one night minimum: https://i.ibb.co/vLkjkTk/Screen-Shot-2020-08-16-at-2-50-09-PM.png Something to the effect that the listing was not updated to reflect the time of year, yet today 2 weeks later it still says the same thing. I wanted to secure the booking as it was a busy time for us and reluctantly went along with it. I was also charged a $75.00 fee for less than the minimum amount, even though I rented for 4 days and a $75.00 fee for a sani dump, which I later learned costs about $10.00 at most places in the Okanagan and there are many. The unit arrived at approximately 3:30pm, but the checkout was 10am. When we went through the unit I noticed that there was still some sand on the floor from the previous use, but that didn't bother me much. Marco showed me how to run most things and said, specifically, that we needed to give it a light cleaning when we were done which included wiping the counters, washing the dishes and sweeping the floor as he would come and "detail it" before delivering it to the next customers on the day of our checkout. I asked for a later checkout as 10am seemed quite early, especially with most places citing 11am, but he said he could not do it. So be it, it was in our contract. On the day he arrived to pick it up, we were delayed by 15minutes. I have four children, we had most of our stuff out and I was giving it a sweep while my wife was wiping the counters. We made sure it was in the condition we got it in. In fact the floors were cleaner. Marco looked upset citing that the contract said 10am. We were 15 minutes late. He went about detailing it as he needed to bring it to another customer. My wife even asked him if he wanted more help, and he said no. About an hour later he was hooking it up to leave. She went to check in with him (no one else had their RV"s being picked up from the private camp we were ((a group of us)) staying in, btw). He said something to the effect that he would email us. So I went to check in with a thumbs up gesture. He got out of his truck and re-iterated that he was going to send me an email that he has not decided on what late fee he was going to charge us. I said "pardon?" He said "you were late!" I acknowledged we were 15 minutes late, and that while I was sweeping he was free to go in and start his "detailing" for his next job, but waited for us. He then said "you didn't clean it!" I again asked "excuse me?" He said "you didn't clean it!" I reminded that he said our "light clean" was inclusive of dished washed (check), counters wiped (check) and floors swept (check) and that we left it in better condition than we got it. He got in his truck and said something about the contract and that he was "humoring himself with the idea of charging me either the late fee or a clean up fee!" As he was getting in his truck, I shrugged my shoulders, and he left. Luckily for myself and my family, I video record on my phone the condition of all rentals before and after. I had used a newspaper to verify the date of when we got it and how we left it so the dates reflect properly on the video confirming. I video taped the condition of the vehicle, with dirty/sandy floors when we got it and how we left it (in better condition). This was my saving grace. So I would advise anyone who rents from Marco to do the same. I sent Marco a text explaining this and explaining that if he were to keep any part of my $400.00 damage deposit, I would post the video's on youtube and spread them to all reviews. If he were to respond to this saying that we left it dirty, I will follow up with said video's. I also told him that if he wanted to keep any money for being 15 minutes late, then I would also put that in a review. At the end of the day I think 15 minutes is nit picking, but that's my opinion. Marco did call me & had some profanity laden words with me before reluctantly returning my $400.00. Buyer beware! I had no other issues but the attempt to try and keep some of my damage deposit with outright exaggerated claims (late) or non existent (not cleaned). As I said, my video recording of the condition before and after was my saving grace and I would caution anyone using this service to do the same. Marco angrily said "who would do that other than someone with a guilty conscience?" I explained "nothing guilty about getting evidence to back up your claims!" He changed his tone from the "humorously considering one or the other late fee" to "I was going to refund you in full" and did so. My video'ing of the event was key to this. Protect yourself.
