First, before even creating a lease we had to call multiple times a week to even get the leasing agent to send us our lease to even sign. Thanks allyn. Our move in day arrives and I drive to their office and am told that I should have gotten a welcome packet before today that would have told me about "picking up the keys from a lock box on the apartment" okay. Small mistake no big deal I'll just drive back there. So I get back in my car drive to my apartment only to get ANOTHER call from them saying "oops you actually need to pick your keys up here." Great. Drive all the away back walk in and then they ask me if I have up my electric service??? SURPRISE YET AGAIN SOMETHING THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO SEND ME BEFORE I MOVED IN. After awkwardly sitting in the leasing office on hold with Dominion Energy for 30 minutes I finally got everything correct. All these issues aside it wouldn't have been that upsetting but the disinterest and unapologetic attitude of the agents in the office is what was so upsetting. I hope things turn around but as of day one we will not be resigning with property result. Three years later!!!!!!! It was funny going back at reading this start to my experience. Honestly. I love the building. The pool was always nice in the summer. Rent is on the lower end for the area. Parking is difficult at times but being across the street from the grocery store makes up for it. The matinence guys are the best!! We lived there for three happy years and I was prepared to leave an overall good review. Then the move out process started and back to dealing with the folks at the leasing office who are less than pleasant. First off they tell you that in the last two months of living there they are going to show your apartment to strangers while you live there. That's annoying but I get it. It's nice to actually see the place you're going to live. I wish the had an actual fitness center and sometimes it's hard to get packages delivered but again I really did love our little apartment and the rest of shockoe Great place to live and would definitely recommend the building to anyone interested. The apartment I rented from them 2006-2007 was a no-frills great deal: a…read moreHUGE one-bedroom (the entire top floor of a 3-story row house) just one block off the VCU campus on Franklin Street for $550 a month including all utilities except internet. In a city where rent-gouging and slumlording is rampant, especially close to the VCU campus, Main Street stood out for charging a fair price for a sound rental in a great location. The apartment didn't have central air or new windows or other modern upgrades, but it had been well-maintained and had no defects. A small touch I appreciated was they had allowed the previous tenant to paint the rooms in different colors (a green kitchen, beige living room, and blue bedroom) which gave the apartment ten times more character than all the other uniformly off-white places I looked at. I only needed maintenance's help a few times (to work out kinks in the old radiator system during the winter) and they always responded the same day and fixed exactly what needed fixing. The office staff were very friendly and helpful, and prompt in returning my occasional calls. The landlord did not show the apartment. They set up an appointment with the existing tenant to show me the apartment before I moved in, which I appreciated as it meant I could hear about the apartment -- and the landlords -- from someone with experience living there and dealing with that company, and without a vested interest in getting me to take the apartment. When I moved out to attend grad school in another city, had I not recommended the place to a friend who took over my lease, I would have been able to do the same. They returned my security deposit in full and in a reasonable amount of time. They didn't have a website then or do any online ads, and it looks like they still don't. (Despite what Google tells you, mainstreetrealty.info is not them, nor is mainstreetproperties.com.) They kept a printed list of current availabilities in a Take One box outside their office on Main Street when I was living in Richmond. It was worth getting off the internet to pick up the list in person and get access to deals not found online.
