Of all the German restaurants I have been recently, Rutz Zollhaus in my neighborhood Kreuzberg is one that I'd recommend my colleagues and friends to visit. The location is lovely, right by a swimming creek like canal (?), and there is a lovely park next to it.
It offers inventive, French influenced, locally sourced German food. If I were to describe it, it'll be New German food, as in the New American food which is kind of like Californian cuisine if I may say so myself.
The spare ribs, the raw milk cheese and the blood sausages are my three most favorite things, though everyone of us got the oxtail dish that was on the menu that evening.
Kreuzberg is lovely (where I have an apartment) and happening, but even within Kreuzberg you can find quieter, elegant restaurant like this one.
If you want to try something that is German but barely recognizable because it's so creative and inventive, like the two Michelin star place I visited years ago in Essen, this is your spot. read more
