Our flight back home ended up getting canceled on New Year's Eve. We stayed the night at the Holiday Inn which was right by here. We were tired and hungry. It was late, but this Ruth'sChris was still open. We didn't have reservations so the bar was the only option. It was fine since we could order from the regular menu. Acacia was the bartender and our server. She was fantastic, upbeat and great attitude and service. She also made my daughter a really tasty mocktail. The steak and food we had was delicious as it always is at Ruth's Chris. This location was dimly lit and had the old steakhouse feel, nicely decorated for the holidays. First time for me and my friend! I rate it 4 stars and it had nothing to do with the food but the service and ambiance. When spending almost $600 for a meal for two, all factors must check off. This establishment is located in a nondescript building near the airport. The interior is modern and clean but lacks charm and pizzazz. After having a bit of water before food arrived, we were brought an additional $9 bottle of water without being asked if we wanted one. We normally don't drink water with our meals especially when we order a $120 to $140 bottle of wine. This is my only complaint. Waiters should not assume! The tuna was probably the best of all items we ordered. It was divine! The steaks were very tender, moist, and piping hot - must be the 500F plate they serve it on. The potatoes gratin and mushrooms were way above average. Excellently prepared. There is limited parking and if you park at The Holiday Inn it can be a long walk to the front doors. Every time my boyfriend and I travel and end up staying in Toronto, we make it a point to stop by Ruth's Chris and it's always the perfect, relaxing way to wind down. For the last four or five visits, we've been lucky enough to be served by Jay. He's an incredible server who clearly takes pride in his work and does everything with a genuine smile. I always start with the French onion soup or split a salad, and then it's either the ribeye or the New York strip, both are amazing. This place never disappoints, and Jay is truly the cherry on top! read more

The restaurant was clean, and well lit, we really enjoyed the staff, they were very friendly, knowledgeable, and actually quite funny. The food on the other hand, was fairly similar to a standard steak house. We were brought a bottle of wine which we let the staff know tasted off... but we were told it's fine... the sommelier was brought to the table to confirm that it was indeed not the best quality... then the bottle was taken away. We ordered a second bottle of wine which was much better. I have to say, usually at a fine dining establishment, when something like this happens they take something off the bill or add something as a gesture... this restaurant did not. The tomahawk steak we ordered came out sizzling hot, and was nice, 40% of the weight I think was bone and maybe 25% fat, so it's a big juicy piece of meat. The salad I ordered was drenched in dressing, I wasn't aware that it would be coleslaw instead of an actual salad. Oyster didn't come with any hot sauce, only lemon, bottled cocktail sauce, and a soy ginger dressing like topping that you can see in the picture. We did enjoy the calamari, it was sweet and crispy, and I would probably order this one item again. Overall I doubt we will be going back to this location, or restaurant. read more

I have always wanted to try Ruth's Chris, for years now - it was on my to do list after so many people telling me how great it is down south. I was in Toronto on business so this was my chance. :) Meal and service for what you pay was surprisingly sub par, it's supposed to be an experience, this was not, Their service was adequate, it was not spectacular which one expects for this price. I ordered a 16oz Ribeye for the main $98.00. This is prime beef so a great piece of meat however, after cooking, it was burnt black in several areas around the sides, had a hard dry dark crust on outside. Burnt, not charcoal taste was noticeable with most every bite. Is it me?, is that their style, is that normal at this place? The sides I ordered were Gratin Potatoes - these were dry and bland, any liquid was long since cooked away. Second side was what they cal Peppercorn sauce - warning, this not a traditional French Peppercorn sauce - must be an acquired taste - At the end of the day, I paid $205 plus for a meal for one. Other than the prime meat, Everything else including the service could be had at an Outback or Texas Road House. Very disappointed, I can't recommend. It's important to know what you're getting into when you come here, otherwise you might walk away with a huge sticker shock. You are looking at about $100 for your protein, and being a fancy Steakhouse when you order that that is all you get. Do you want some broccoli on the side? That's another $20. The drinks probably used to seem expensive, at $20 each, but now that most bars have raised them mixed drinks to about $15 the extra $5 for some of their signature creations doesn't seem that bad. The raspberry and blackberry cocktails were delightful. Do I think that a side of french fries is worth $20? No, no I do not. Do I think a side of mashed potatoes is worth $20? Not really, but I wouldn't feel terrible at the end of the meal knowing that I paid that, as the mashed potatoes were incredibly delicious. This, most likely has something to do with the butter content I would imagine? The cheesecake is also a tasty treat. If you're looking to have a meal, but keep the prices out of somewhat reasonable level, the three course meal is the way to go. It's filling, you get to try a couple of things, and the dessert is a nice touch. The French onion soup isn't the best that I have ever had, but it is definitely up there. Steaks are always awesome for the first 10 bites. But with all the butter the last 10 bites are just too much. Next time I might ask for no butter on the plate. Otherwise quality of meat is top notch. I had the ribeye which I think was a bit smaller than advertised. Sides are hit and miss. Mushrooms good, broccoli ok (not overdone), lobster Mac was awesome but asparagus was so-so (not really in season) and mash potatoes is nothing special. Prices are really way beyond what's appropriate here. $75 for what felt like a 10-ounce ribeye is really uncalled for and the sides are highway robbery. I get it, it's a steakhouse. First, I walked almost 2 miles in the snow to enjoy the fruits of Ruth's Chris. I had high expectations and they delivered. You could not ask for a more attentive staff----especially as they helped me hang my snowy wet overcoat. When you go to a top-end venue like this, your expectations should be high----this is their brand and they have built a following. I was not disappointed. August 14/18: Solid meal but it was missing something. I think it's the "atmosphere" of a great Steakhouse. I had the "house combo" (salad/main/dessert) good tasting but the portion size was very small. It was suppose to be a 6oz steak but it sure looked small to me. They also used to bring out the steak on a hot skillet and now....nope. Just a hot plate now. The portion sizes for the sides were supported to be shareable...nope. I found them WAY to small to share. I could also not really figure out who was out wait staff was. Our order was taken by the Manager, was delivered by a table runner & every second person that walked past our table asked us how we were doing!! Don't need that much attention! The steak house has a great ambience but you go there without having to over dress in fact looks like good casual is the most popular. Costly a bit, but well worth it. The story of Ruth Fertel is a remarkable one if you ever wanted to learn about it. Ruth's has a loyalty program that gives you 10% of your purchase back which is good for 90 days. I get it, it's an incentive to return and restrictive since you need to use it before your points expire. Recently Ruth's offered a Black Friday/Cyber Monday promo that if you were to purchase up to 250 dollars of gift cards which come in 50 dollar denominations that we would receive up to 125 dollars in loyalty points. That's a lot considering you normally get 10% on any other given time but for this promotion they're basically offering 50% (125 on a 250 purchase). That's substantial and attractive and I ended up going with that and purchased 250 dollar's worth of gift cards on Nov 24th. The promo said to allow for 8-9 business days before receiving the cards through the mail. I was glad that the gift cards came before I had planned to use them which was just this past weekend (December 9th). I had made an online reservation the same day I purchased the gift cards. The restaurant is visible from the street near the north west intersection of Dixon and Carlingview in Etobicoke which is basically as far west you can go and still be inside Toronto. If you were go west about 500 feet towards the Hilton on the same side of the street you'd be in Mississauga at that point. This location is new as Ruth's "moved" from their previous location near Square One to this place which is essentially part of the grounds of the Holiday Inn. There's a parking system in place but the restaurant will validate parking for their customers and there's even dedicated ground level parking past the ticket gate as well through the structure and towards the restaurant, there's a sign stating that space beyond "this point" is reserved for Ruth's Chris customers. Ruth's entrance faces the hotel's main entrance which is the north side of the building, not directly attached to the hotel. The check in area is through the doors on the right. The décor is very modern with brighter and different colored lighting. While the Hilton location downtown has a much more old school, big booth, classic wooden wall - library feel to it, this place really does seem to feel more flashy and new. They are newly opened and the place isn't the downtown location which has been there for longer. The Toronto airport location is just that, different. The service is rather impressive however. Between arriving, being seated, drinks, dessert and mains served, food brought out, sides being served, parking validation, loyalty card points added and payment we must have interacted with at minimum half a dozen team members. Besides a wine menu there's a cocktail menu in the main menu at the back. Otherwise the menu is laid out with apps and salads on the first page and then options for steaks on and other mains following. I noticed that they didn't happen to have the satay sticks like they do downtown but we ended up going with the sizzling crab cakes and the heirloom tomato salad to start. For mains I went with the cowboy ribeye which is a bone in version (22 oz) while the wife went with the regular filet (11 oz) cuts that we ordered medium. The server warns that the plate will be a hot 500 degrees when it comes and knowing that the steaks still will continue to cook a bit afterwards considering the residual heat. The family style sides we chose to go with were the cremini mushrooms, lobster mac and cheese, and creamed spinach which were all good. The mac and cheese is larger than the other two serving trays and was good enough for the 3 of us and we had leftover as well. The meat is high grade while the quality and cooking method is special. 1800 degree broilers and the experience to cook with that much heat with these cuts is something you have to master if you have a name to live up to and gladly they do. Considering the average for a steak here is around 75 dollars, one would expect this to be something special and I have to say I believe it to be that. This place does make some of the best tasting steaks I've had and it's that something special that would have me coming back for more. Regardless of the contrasting ambiance and menu differences you get from the downtown Toronto location and this airport location the quality of the food to me is the same. The steaks we had ordered were both very different cuts but done perfectly. My wife and friend both said they were the best they've had and I'd also have to agree. Between Morton's and Ruth's, I prefer Ruth's. While they're both different with some similarities , I just like the way Ruth's cooks their steaks while their sides are very complimentary. The area we were in was preparing for a large party and instead of being rushed out, one of the servers offered us a complimentary cocktail at the bar but I had said we were leaving anyway. They say good things must always come to an end. It's a very sad day when I'm no longer able to express my feelings of love for Ruth's Chris. My recent visit will be my last. It's not me Ruth, it's you. A word of advice, if you're considering Ruth's Chris, the only option should be the downtown location. We've been burned may times with the other GTA locations and tonight was another example of that. This location itself lacks the ambiance and atmosphere you get with the traditional Steak house feel you get from the downtown location. It's very nice and modern but it's far from a Ruth's Chris. Our waiter was very nice but again lacked the years of experience that would accompany staff from their Toronto location. Although this may seem trivial, the "free bread" at the beginning of the meal was disappointing. I know I sound like a broken record but doesn't compare to the "other" location I'll keep referencing. We started off with a calamari appetizer that was so sweet, it reminded me of a Chinese take out dish. It's a definite pass. Now, I know I'm not exaggerating when I say this. When you go to a steak restaurant that charges close to $100 per steak, you expect it to be absolutely perfect. Unfortunately tonight BOTH of our steaks were extremely under done. The lack of follow through on the restaurant side was also extremely poor. Choosing to re-heat our steaks vs making new ones was a poor decision. When the "new" steaks came back, they lacked that "$100 steak feel"'. Felt as though I was eating leftovers the very next day. We did speak to a manager that seemed way too inexperienced to be working at a fine establishment like RC. We were offered another appetizer (pass) and some sparkling wine. We're both non drinkers but whatever, thanks for the "nice gesture". Getting the bill was a huge kick in the nuts. All items ordered were there as if we had the ideal experience. Pleasant experience dining here on last trip to YYZ. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful - even by Canadian standards. They set us up at the bar the watch the Maple Leafs lose yet another Game 7, which only added to the great night out. Bone in rib-eye cooked to perfection, as were lamb chops. We decided to give it another shot, as we were dreaming about the steak in that good, good butter. We wanted to try this location, as it had good reviews. Let me tell you, the food was phenomenal and the customer service was top notch! Scott, our server, was great! Very attentive and friendly. Always made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks, Scott! Michelle, the general manager, came and spoke to us at the table. She recommended the lobster bisque - which was delicious, and the crime brûlée - I still dream of it!! She was extremely friendly and personable. I was pleasantly impressed with the service at Ruth Chris Steak house. From the the moment I was greeted when our party walked in the door. We cane with a party of four and we were seated in the lounge by the bar. We had a delayed flight from Montreal and our party was parched from a long day. As soon as we were seated, our group felt like we were home. Francine and Steve were very informative on the wine selection and menu choices. The past 12 years, I have visited many Ruth Chris locations all over the USA; this one should be avoided like the plague! I ordered a dirty Martini and it came in a dirty glass ...and with the wrong olives. Drink was not cold and no apologies were offered by our very aloof waitress. Surf and turf was described on the menu to be serve with a giant tiger shrimp but came with 6 sad looking pink shrimps (just like the ones in the Red Lobster TV commercials). My colleague crab cakes look like they were straight out of a President's Choice frozen entree box. Our bill was 340 bucks for two which is a total disgrace for such a substandard meal and experience. The Keg and Chops, a short walking distance from there, are a much better option for your dollar and taste buds. read more

I came to Toronto for my birthday I always wanted to go to ruths chris and decided to treat myself I came in at 445pm it was very quiet and I was seated pretty quickly in a comfortable chair things were pretty nice I was impressed the menu had some definite promise it was pricy but as I said a treat The waitress came 30 seconds after I sat down I had just opened the menu and asked me for my drink order im very decisive I asked her to come back in 2 mins id be ready 20+ mins later still no one comes back im thinking if its going to be like this pre drink the meals gonna be worse I got up to go back to the hostess she just sorta said sorry sir shrugged and didnt offer to fix it so I left I don't mind dropping two hundred bucks on a meal if the food is good and the service is good if I'm treating myself but I'll be damned if I'm going to do it when the service is that bad and I havnt tried the food I was really dissapointed i always wanted to go here but im from outa town I went down the road to the keg instead read more

Went to Ruth Chris airport for the very first time ona date night with my partner! Firstly, I must say as someone who has worked in the industry, the service at this location is phenomenal and tip-notch of what you expect at a fine dining steakhouse, the interior was beautiful and very elegant (we could have even dressed up more). Food was absolutely amazing and just as described by our server! My boyfriend said his truffle crusted fillet was the best steak he has had in his life! (He loves steak), my steak was also cooked perfect and definitely tastey! Sides are a great portion and great gor sharing. I have been to several Ruths Chris throughout the US and decided to give the new location near Pearson Airport in Toronto a try. It started off very promising with a nice table for four in the corner near the fireplace and window. At 1:30 pm, the restaurant was practically empty, so I assume this is not a busy place for lunch. So we were seated and feeling good. Our waitress came over about 5 minutes later and welcomed us. She asked if we wanted bottled or ice water and if we wanted any drinks. So far so good. But that's where things went down hill. We had asked for some bread and the waitress said someone would bring it to us. We looked at the menu and decided on lunch. We waited close to 20 minutes before we flagged down the waitress saying we were ready. We had not gotten any bread by then. We placed our order and after another 20 minutes, the food came. My guests ordered the lunch specials with steak and I ordered the steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was smothered with a bearnaise sauce (or something close). I took a bite and it was a bit cold, but tender. After brushing some of the sauce away, it was clear that the steak was prepared rare. I had asked for medium rare. When a runner came over to see what the problem was, I showed him the steak and he said "that's rare", what did you order. In terms of staff, we weren't quite sure who was taking care of us (besides no one for the first 20 minutes). There was a waitress, a bread runner, a water runner and a second waiter. And then the manager came over asking if he could get us any more bread with an overzealous, "I'm going to make everything better" tone. We appreciated his effort but when he said "the whole team is here to help you", we had to laugh. The "team" as far as we were concerned were out of sight for quite a while. Overall my recommendation to this location and every other place that doesn't get it, is get some bread on the guests table as soon as possible. Guests get to the restaurant hungry and when people are hungry, they get irritable. The Manager was nice to address the situation on the final bill, however I would never have expected service to be an issue at an upscale steakhouse. Especially when they were not that busy.
