GARLIC MASHED Steak
Jenny N.

We made a reservation to celebrate my husband's birthday on a week day. The service was great. They gave us a nice seating area near the window. The interesting thing was there's a different person filling our water, taking our order and serving our food. Everyone was nice and eager to assist whenever we made eye contact. The food was phenomenal. We loved the Brussels sprouts. It's crispy, spicy and garlicky. The sea bass was seasoned well... the texture was so smooth. It literally melted in my mouth. The steak was also cooked perfectly. You wouldn't need sauce to go with it cause the butter added so much flavor. At the end of the meal, they brought out a birthday treat. The cheesecake was delicious. It was the perfect way to end the night. Btw if you make reservation for a table, you won't be able to order from the Happy Hour menu. I mean you can, but you'll have to pay the regular price.

We were seated immediately with a smile. We were taken the the small room all the way round the other side and it so not nearly as nice as the main room but it was nice and quiet. Our server team was nice and let us go at our own pace. Now, for those of you that read my reviews you know my number one pet peeve is when food comes out at different times for each guest or the mains get dropped when the appetizers are not done. Well... 100% flawless on these counts. We were not rushed and our mains came out about 13 minutes after we competed the appetizers and all of them and the side dishes were brought out at the same time. Faaaaantastic. As it should be. The steaks (porterhouse and filet) were Cooked to the right temp and the sea bass was perfect. The ahi tuna app was some of the best we've had and the calamari was so tender and tasty. Overall a nice night we would love to go back. Oh... the bread pudding was great but rich. Three of us could not finish it.

Made a reservation to dine here on a Friday night to try their $55 deal. I must say, the place is pretty happening! Think the marketing is working for them. This location has self parking on the upper floor parking garage, or valet parking as well. We visited with a stroller and was seated at a nice corner spot with lots of room. We saw other parties with kids as well so it lowered our stress level (luckily our baby was super chill and quiet!) The $55 deal by itself was actually a good amount of food, but they do offer additional options for extra. Appetizer: House salad, Caesar salad, or soup. We had the Caesar salad and it was delicious! Good portion size for a side salad as well. Main: 8oz prime steak, salmon and shrimp, or stuffed chicken breast. Two of us got the 8oz prime steak and it was above my expectations! Very juicy and tender. One of us subbed out the prime to a 8oz New York strip steak for no additional cost (not on menu). There were also additional options to sub for fillet mignon for extra. Side: Mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, or brussel sprouts. The mashed potatoes were fantastic! Comes as a separate container so easy to share if you want to get different ones. Dessert: Small cheesecake is what is included, also option to pay $5 extra for a full dessert like creme brulee, bread pudding, etc. The cheesecake was decent, bread pudding is massive but the alcohol was a little too strong for me. But the creme brulee was the true standout! Super delicious! We also got the calamari appetizer and lobster mac and cheese in addition to our $55 meal deal, but in hindsight we over ordered and had to take food home. The calamari was very tasty and I would recommend that over the lobster mac. The service was great and our server was very friendly and engaged in casual conversation with us. He also was very attentive to my husband's soda refill and even brought out a small pitcher as a win-win since he was drinking it so fast (which we was very happy about!) They messed up one of our steak orders but offered options to fix it. Overall, great food and service!

After dinner, my friend and I stopped by for dessert and cocktails. We ordered a creme brûlée to share. I got an espresso martini and my friend got a glass of Chardonnay. We both enjoyed the dessert and our drinks. We were seated in the courtyard which had a long stretched fire pit. The ambiance was really beautiful with the fire pit and stringed lights. There's something magical about it... One of the server's name is Chip, and if you ask about their chocolate chips, they will bring some out for you to nibble on. It's a cute thing that they do. I'll have to come back to try the food here one of these days. I really enjoyed the service, ambiance, and dessert/drinks.

Came here on Valentine's Day. Very busy. Pretty large restaurant. Place looked nice inside. When going to our table, a couple decided they did not like where they were sitting and took our booth reserved for us. The staff were able to get us another booth but had to wait a few minutes. Staff were very sorry and tried to make our dining experience better. We got the crab cakes, cowboy ribeye with a blue cheese, lobster tail, and Brussels sprouts. The crab cakes were good. Ribeye was a good medium rare. The lobster tail was way overcooked. They replaced the lobster and the new one tasted very good. Brussels sprouts were also good. The waiter was a little rude but I'm assuming it is because it was a very busy night. The bathroom was a mess and not clean. I'll come back on a regular night to avoid the madness. I bet the dining experience will be so much better.

Happy hour sliders
Allison L.

Consistently one of the best happy hours! I decided to go back today after a long hiatus. To my surprise, they had updated the menu! We tried the Aji tuna, staff sliders, and truffle fries. All were so tasty! Also, a pleasant surprise was the speed of service. This location has previously had slow service however, tonight it was speedy and efficient I will keep this on my happy hour regular rotation! If you're looking for a nice outdoor patio to sit on. or an inside booth this is your place to go.

Fantastic service by Fredrick and others! Came here on a Monday at 6pm. Made reservations for our group of 7. Had some drinks a bar then headed to table. Place not too busy yet. All tables have an amazing view of ocean and Torrey Pines. Started off with the calamari and mushroom. Both were good. All of us had differing entrees (filet, pork chops, ribeye, tbone). Everything came out perfectly cooked and delicious. Those that got the ribeye, got to choose their knife from a box (that was cool). We of course had the Lobster Mac (and it was great as always). Brussel sprout were good and nicely cooked! Fredrick and other staff consistently checked in on us. After dinner, Fredrick even set up a photo op outside patio! That was so awesome of him. We will definitely be back.

Bone-In Filet Mignon
Da Kat A.

First time visiting Ruth's Chris.  Their service is awesome.  Been to many other prime-grade steakhouses before and usually don't see bone-in filet available that much.  So figured I'll give this a try and ordered a bone-in filet and it's delicious.   We also ordered the steak and lobster and it's good. In terms of side dishes:  The side of mushrooms. is on the salty side.  The lobster mac and cheese is also good.

Ruth's Chris is an upscale American Steakhouse chain serving delicious steaks and accompaniments with a wide wine and cocktail selection. The Happy Hour here is a great value. THE FOOD * The Bread: The complimentary fresh-baked bread was amazing - hot, with a moist, tender crumb and delicious butter. A real treat to start. * Steak Sandwich: Delicious. Tender sliced filet served on great garlic bread, topped with béarnaise sauce and fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. * Filet & Wine: The Happy Hour 6oz Filet was topped with three large shrimp and came with a glass of Daou Cabernet. Simple, delicious, and excellent value. * Appetizers: The table really enjoyed the spicy shrimp, deep-fried zucchini fries, and slices of seared ahi tuna with cucumber and mustard sauce. SERVICE * Wait Staff: Special thanks to Hunter for the professional service and strong recommendations. * Host Stand: Thank you to Izzy for the helpful phone support and restaurant details before we arrived. THE ATMOSPHERE & LOGISTICS * The Patio: They have a great outdoor patio featuring a long fire pit along the wall--perfect for watching the sunset. * Parking: Valet is available, but there is also plenty of free self-parking directly outside. OVERALL A high-quality establishment perfect for a special occasion or business engagement.

Was really craving a ribeye so came here. Ended up getting tomahawk which they cut for us and served on a sizzling plate. Great service and super attentive. They even gave us brand new bread to go. Classic steakhouse ambiance. Dim and comfortable.

CLASSIC CHEESECAKECheesecake
Jenny Y.

Came on a week night for a group dinner. The first thing I noticed is the horriblr parking. It was jam packed and the spaces were small. They do, however, have a valet that costs $12. The valet lot was wide open. It seems so petty to have a lot not to be utilized by its patrons just so they can make a few bucks. Luckily the rest of the evening got better . The restaurant was beautiful. It was cozy on a rainy San Diego evening. The tables are a bit too close for my comfort. We sat in a private room which was equally cramped. We started the evening with ahi tuna. It was tender with a bit of a kick. It paired very well with the warm bread. The seasoning on the tuna would be overwhelming if not for the bread. The next course was the salad. The dressing on the house salad was a savory vinaigrette. It worked very well with the fresh field greens. I think if there were cucumbers in the salad to give a textural difference, it would be perfect. I ordered the salmon which was perfectly cooked with a moist buttery center. It was a bit under seasoned. The salmon was served with a creamy whipped garlic mash potato and a rich creamed spinach. I also had a taste of my friend's filet and that was also cook perfectly with a soft pink center. The steak was seasoned much better than the salmon. Afterall, it's a steak house. I expect nothing less. Overall it was a pleasant evening sans the parking situation. The servers were courteous and the food, by and large, was pretty good.

John M.

I've been here a bunch and it's really hit or miss on the service. The food is consistently good but I just don't get it with the servers. I dress well, wear my expensive watch, blah blah blah and get treated like a second class citizen from a server that looks down his nose at me. Tonight was the same, my server (I'm not going to call him out) would actually walk off during conversations about the menu and not return for 5-10 minutes. It was incredibly rude and unappreciated. Towards the end of this dinner, I found a large piece of plastic film in my cheesecake. I nearly choked on it. When I told the waiter, he again just walked off. The manager came and addressed the situation which was nice but that waiter never came back to our table for the rest of the evening. Three stars but it should be two.

Bar top

Great insight from the bartender! I got a tequila old fashioned and it was top tier. It is a great place to go celebrate any special occasion! Definitely go try their sweet potato casserole!

Ruth's Chris Steak House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Ruth's Chris Steak House

Is there a patio area that allows dogs? And would the patio dining be eligible for Happy Hour?

No patio. Happy Hour is in the bar only.

I would like to see a lunch menu. Does one exist?

Only open on Friday for lunch....look at their menu or call the restaurant.

What is your corkage fee?

$700. The price you pay for the overpriced butter they call a steak.

Can a person of color wear a hat?

I have seen POC wearing hats, but the hats are more on the dressy side. From my understanding, they ask people not to wear caps unless it's in the bar area. My friend was asked to remove his baseball cap when we were in the dining area.

Is there outside patio pet friendly?

Yes! It is dog friendly! We have dined there with our little dogs on the outside patio for happy hour and for dinner!

Is it covered and warm eating outside?

Yes. They have those heat lamps and tents

Can you order from the regular menu on thanksgiving?

Hi Lydia - Yes, our dinner menu will be available on Thanksgiving Day in addition to our 3-course Thanksgiving Feast.

Can I wear a casual dress and strap sandals?

Yes you can especially if you sit in the lounge area but regardless you would be perfect in that attire.

Do I have to make a reservation or can I just go on any given time or day?

Reservations are recommended, but not required. Please call the location you wish to visit to make and confirm your reservations. You can also make your reservations online. https://www.ruthschris.com/restaurant-locations/

Can a male wear dark jeans and a button up?

Yes that is not a problem. While business casual or dressy is the best, they are pretty relaxed on the dress code especially in the lounge area.

Do you need a reservation or do they take walk ins as well?

I believe they take walk ins but I recommend making a reservation to make your experience much better.

I'm thinking of going to dinner but I wanna know how to dress up if I wear heels no heals dress no dress please help?

Business casual is a good rule for measure. It's more upscale so I usually wear a dress and heels when I go.

The space felt inviting overall, although seating choice does matter depending on the time of day. We ordered the HH $10 Sicilian meatballs, the $12 cacio e pepe arancini, and the $10 chicken pesto garlic knot sliders. My personal standouts were definitely the arancini and the meatballs. Both had great flavor and texture, and I would happily reorder them again. Service was decent, especially considering we were sitting at the bar. One small note is that I would recommend sitting facing the back if possible, as the sun came in pretty directly and made it a bit bright and uncomfortable at times.
