My husband and I so happy with our choice to send our son to this wonderful, progressive school. The founding teachers are highly experienced and have created a brilliant mix of project based, hands-on learning, and academic programs for reading and maths. The individual focus on each child allows students to develop at their own pace both academically and emotionally. Safety has always been very important to us and we've never had a reason to worry about our son's wellbeing while at school. For example, there's a strict rule that the children are never to open the front door to anyone, not even their parents. If they see someone waiting to get in they have to notify a teacher. A few days ago the policy was put to a test. My son saw me through the window when I came to pick him up and in his excitement he forgot the rule and ran out of the classroom to let me in. Before he knew it, the head teacher had caught up with him and she firmly reminded him that for everyone's safety, only the teachers are allowed to open the doors. My son nodded and then they walked down the hall together to let me in. There is a good balance of freedom and creativity on the one had, and discipline and responsibility on the other. Overall our son has thrived tremendously in Kindergarten. School is now like a second home and he is always eager to get there in the morning. Everyday the children get to play outside, regardless of weather. Movement, music and dance is part of the curriculum and arts and crafts are natural components of every project the students are working on. As parents, we couldn't be more pleased with the progress our son is making; he is not only learning to read, add and subtract - he is learning to collaborate, to problem solve, to lead, to innovate and to be an independent thinker. We chose to send them to The Embankment School and have never once regretted our decision. I admit it was hard to pass up a space at a local Charter school, but after weighing out the things that were important to us, we felt it was more than worth it to send them there. The children are so happy to go to school each day. They never want to miss a moment. The student to teacher ratio is so amazing that children do not get left behind. From field trips to after school add ons, the education and activities have a huge range. Our kids have participated in farm trips, river walks, talent shows, fencing, Bollywood dance, chemistry and even magic classes. They are building skills that I never imagined they would, are being challenged, and still have time to play and be creative. We believe in progressive education and our children truly receive that there. This does not mean that they "play" in the traditional sense all day. They have learned to read and write but not by doing repetitive workbook/ homework. And the best part is that they WANT to learn. They love to read because they are encouraged to try without fear of being wrong. The way the teachers document the weeks by sending home images and a detailed description of the week, provides parents with questions to ask the children to provoke thoughtful and meaningful communication about their experiences. All in all, the entire experience at Embankment has been extremely positive and empowering while also providing an environment that induces scholastic as well as personal development. Sending my two boys to Saint Francis Academy was one of my best choices I ever made for my kids…read more My kids started from Pre-K 3 and Pre- K 4 and from day one, the principal, teachers and staff treated my sons with patient and love--always encouraging, and genuinely invested in their growth. The academic program is outstanding. Both of myboys earned scholarships to top Catholic high schools!, but what makes SFA special is how they balance learning with heart. The community here is warm and tight-knit. Kids aren't just taught math or reading, they're taught kindness, respect, love, compassion and how to be good people. My sons thrived in this environment, making good friends and teachers who felt like mentors. And the parents from the school are always nice and helping each other to look after each other's kids. Most importantly, SFA prepared them brilliantly for high school. The transition was seamless, and their scholarships are proof of how well the school equips kids academically and emotionally. They walked into high school confident, organized, and ready to lead--all thanks to SFA's foundation. If you want a school that cares as much about your child's character as their grades, this is it. I am very grateful for the principal, teachers, staff, and families who made these years so meaningful for the family and my kids.

Wow, where do I start ! I feel so bad giving this school a…read morepoor review but this has been weighing in on me for years. I've had my daughter in the lower school since 2016. My Ex-Husband, My daughter's father works in the design and marketing department. The school allowed my Ex-husband to use his Postion as a platform to harass me for as far back as my daughter's enrollment. Each parent logs into a parent portal to track thier child's progress and I was repeatedly locked out of my parent portal from 2016-2019. My name was removed twice from the aftercare release form and replaced both times with the name of my Ex-husbands live in girlfriend. Every school event would exclude my name from it's greeting cards. I complained on so many occasions that one director of one department would just brush me off to the director of another over and over again. My daughter lives with me in New York and she's with her father in New Jersey on the weekends but her report card would read in reverse and list him as a primary address and myself as a secondary. My private maiden name was once listed on the release form instead of My Ex-husband's last name which I carry. My private family name was completely unknown to the school and the modification could have only been made by My Ex-husband himself. Each of my daughter's teachers with the exception of one were confrontational or dismissive towards me and on occasion I'd catch them openly gossiping about myself or other parents. I had a child support increase modification which the school ignored for six months and that I had to pull my Ex-husband into court for while all along it was his employer who was defying thier legal obligations. The school falsified my daughter's amount of absences and lateness on her report card so much that there was a huge discrepancy between what the teacher reported vs what the nurse reported. In court my Ex-husband repeatedly blamed the tech department for all the electronic errors all along he himself is the site developer. It's just been such a disgusting experience at Dwight Englewood for me. Last Spring I emailed the school director to confirm that I would not be signing back on for the 20-21 school year in light of the pandemic. The director informed me that she had forwarded my cancellation email to my Ex-husband and she wouldn't accept my cancellation until she knew what the court said. when I refused to sign the 20-21 school year registration form by signature the same director told me that she had just rolled my information over from the year prior and that the school could proceed without me. The Dwight Englewood staff has literally bullied me for the past three years and I do not wish to ever revisit the experience that I've had at Dwight. In someways the school operates like the Mafia, I was treated so poorly and was always treated as If the school just expected me to just except the abuse because of how big and prestigious the school was. I'm disappointed and hurt, and The school shouldn't have taken sides and the issues should have been if not rectified at least addressed rather then ignored. It definitely wasn't the nurturing experience for myself and my daughter that you read about online.

Everyday he happily goes to school and has a passion for learning. Can't wish for more... He is currently an 8th Grader and is receiving great support for the high school applications. Obviously this school is not perfect, and no school can or will be, but Stevens is constantly adapting and listenning as a community, that's what matters to our family. My son learns about transparency and about growth within the school. He is a happy kid, learning in a safe environment. I have to say, as a family, in the Stevens community, we are all happy here.
