This is a perfect place for date night. This restaurant was decorated very nicely with comfortable seating and use dim lighting that offers a romantic setting. We ordered: Chicken 65 - good flavor, it had a nice kick to it! Chili Milli Gobhi - this was delicious, the batter had a great crisp to it but the cauliflower instead wasn't overcooked or mushy Goat Biryani - very good, they gave you a decent amount of meat and the rice had great flavor! Lamb Chops - perfectly cooked with great char on the outside. This came with potatoes and asparagus with a side of sauce that tastes similar to butter chicken. Overall - all the food was fresh and delicious. I will say that while the food was flavorful, the flavors were not as intense as how other Indian restaurants I've had. Rutba was pretty good. Large variety of Indian classics. The waitress was very very slow. We were in there for probably 15 minutes before we were greeted and given water. This is a beautiful new restaurant and the food is super yummy! We had a birthday lunch here for my sister and it was like the best restaurant experience I've had in a while. Our waiter, Sabino, saw that it was my sister's birthday and he brought out chocolate cake with a candle, as if this weren't enough, they also played happy birthday through the speakers and took a Polaroid photo of all of us. He gave us the Polaroid photo and it even said happy birthday on it! The food was amazing as well and the lunch prices. For my paneer tikka masala was only $15 and came with a choice of soup or salad, a side of Chana masala, rice, a giant basket of naan and even a cup of rice pudding. When I heard that the owners of Anokha were opening up a second spot in the Richmond area, I was thrilled. Today, my family finally popped in to check out their lunch scene & it did not disappoint. Midlothian has been in need of a SOLID Indian staple, and we finally have it. Their prices for lunch are insanely reasonable, about $14-16. Each lunch entree comes with soup or salad (they always vary, which is awesome - today was lentil soup & a salad with a pineapple vinaigrette), side of the day (beans today), rice, big basket of hot buttered naan, & a dessert. You likely will leave with leftovers too - so how can you beat that price? Being inside, you would never guess this used to be a Wendy's. The vegetables were fresh and tasty. Hubby ordered the Sabjiwala and he barely let me taste it since he wanted it all to himself. To accompany we ordered Garlic Naan. I have been to the restaurant for dinner and for lunch and the food is great and healthy. Service at dinner was great. Service at lunches great. The atmosphere inside is elegant with an upper scale environment. The inside of the restaurants is very clean. Ordering food to go had a great experience. If you need something extra with your order to go just ask and it's given. The portion of the food is enough so you do need a go box as well if needed. I am from the UK and know a thing or two about Indian restaurants. It's kind of our national dish and the competition is insane these days which for diners, is a good thing. I've been in the USA for nearly 15 years and have tried various Indian food restaurants all over the country. It always seemed to me like they were somehow just faking it. Today, I was in the area and smelled the aromas coming from the building and decided to give this place a try. Upon entering I was impressed with the overall ambiance, cleanliness and professionalism of the staff Once seated, we overheard the owner talking to his staff about an upcoming party coming in and there was a two way conversation about what was needing to be done in preparation. I said to my wife that the general tone and respect he was showing his staff bode well for the food. And I was right. It was a delicious treat. The kitchen produced a fine selection of dishes that were perfectly spiced, flavorful and of the highest quality. I don't want to sound too enthusiastic but this is one of the best Indian food restaurants I have been to in the USA and it's right here on my doorstep in Midlothian. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The Naan bread was absolutely delicious, flavorful with just the right amount of crunch. I had the Patia with chicken which I have not seen really since I was last in the UK. Imagine a sweet and sour/tangy flavor with Mango and you'll be salivating if that floats your boat. It done mine...lol We were there at lunchtime and I left full but did not feel polluted like you do from other places. My lunch at Rutba was everything I had hoped for in a great Indian meal. The lunch entrees come with the meat of your choice, naan, soup or salad, a side of curried peas, rice, and a mini sweet dessert on the side. I ordered the Lamb Patia (mango, ginger, scallion curry) and it was phenomenal! The flavors where awesome and the lamb was super tender. My green salad came pre-dressed with a light avocado vinaigrette, I upgraded to garlic naan for an extra $1.00, and the included sweet treat was a coconut cream mouse thingy. Now, I absolutely HATE green peas! But they were so good that they were the first thing I finished on my plate. Thats saying a lot! My server was gracious, attentive, and was happy to answer any questions. This was definitely the best Indian I've had in a great while. The only teensy thing for me that would have made the naan perfect is if it had a tad more butter/ oil on top. I really can't complain too much though, it's not like I can make naan for myself. The staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. The owner, John, took great pride in his establishment jumping in where needed to support his staff which speaks to his leadership and appreciation for hospitality. Our party had samosas, butter chicken, chicken biriyani, chicken marwadi and garlic naan. All of our dishes were delicious and flavorful with generous portions. Lunch at Rutba is such a fun outing with friends, or weekday date with someone special. The other Indian restaurants I've been to recently want to charge you even for naan when you order entrees. This restaurant, instead, treats patrons like valued guests at home. You are served a meal, not an entree. I love korma, so I've had that and chose to have it with lamb. It was great. The next visit goat patia was a good choice. It was excellent and the first time I've had a sweet Indian entree. It was excellent. One day my meal was served with lemon coconut soup, naan, sautéed vegetables and a pudding. The next time it was served with naan, a spicy spinach potato soup, a white bean side dish, and gulab jamun. Salad with lemon dressing is offered as an alternative to the soup of the day. It's absolutely a delicious salad. Of course they have masala tea ( listed simply as chai on the menu) and wonderful servers. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated. Seating options include tables, high tops, or couches for larger groups. This is a top option. The loveliest surprise is the bill. All the deliciousness mentioned and our lunch for 2 was under $50 once a %20 tip was added. There are several types of breads and multiple choices of naan alone. read more

gosh, really wanted to love this. transplanted NYC textile designer who has worked in India since the 90's. so looking for real. ordered all dishes med hot. NO HEAT AT ALL. on any dish. how is this possible?? ordered for 5 pm pick up, arrived at 4:54 told wait a few minutes and at 5:17 finally said will this be much longer......so was totally ignored as I sat on a bench. the best part of this meal? the after mint picked up at the cash register as I waited. so no stars for service. 1 star for food and dare I say one and done. i'm so sad to have to write this. read more

The food just gets better every time I eat there. I like my food to be really spicy while my wife likes her food to be mild, and Rutba is the only restaurant I've found in Virginia that does both well. My brother-in-law uses a wheelchair and the restaurant is fully accessible for him and we all eat there every chance we get. The service is friendly, the food is excellent, I thoroughly recommended it to anyone who likes high quality Indian food at a reasonable price. read more

Took my teenagers here for lunch and it was amazing! Started with the kebab sampler, which was tender and flavorful. I got the chicken korma which was delicious. I got it medium spice, but it wasn't hot at all, just had a little kick. The lunch came with a choice of soup or salad and I chose the soup, which was a comforting coconut lime soup. My kids got butter chicken and saag paneer and both raved about their meals. They both got the salad and the green were fresh and crispy and the lemon dressing was addictive. Each meal also came with stewed potatoes, fluffy basmati rice, and the most delicious coconut mousse. The naan was light and fluffy. Service was great a the space is beautiful.
