Lunch Entrees: Tofu Saag, Chicken Tikka Masala
Connie T.

We didn't know there was an Indian restaurant in the Carver area. We gave it a try on a Thursday afternoon. The service was pretty fast since we were the only table for some time. We started with the vegetable samosas and they were delicious though we noticed the sauces it came with were more runny than we're used to. For our entrees we ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken saag. When it arrived it was served as butter chicken and tofu saag. We were in a bit of a rush so didn't have time to flag it and reorder. Both dishes were flavorful and surprisingly came with individual rices and 4 pieces of naan each, which is very generous. It makes the lunch entrees a great deal.

Came here because we loveee Carytown Indian Cuisine, Bajra's sister restaurant, so we had high hopes for Bajra (especially since we are Indian ourselves). Bajra is a bit more affordable than CIC, and has many more "typical" Indian restaurant options, though all North Indian dishes. Service was solid. The food was actually really good! The spinach chaat and gobi manchurian made for some tasty apps, and we ordered a malai kofta, a palak paneer, and some naans and rice, all of which were delicious. Bajra has become one of our go-to Indian restaurants in the Richmond area, and we definitely recommend it (especially for families!). The toffee cake dessert was also deeeeelicious even for Desi parents who don't like too much sweet.

Came for dinner on a Friday night and the place was empty! I'm shocked. Everything was delicious and the service was fast and attentive. The decor was cute and all around great vibes

Great food. The spice level is real so make sure you choose low if you aren't really into spicy. Everything we had was very flavorful. I'd recommend getting things to share rather than one dish per person.

This is one of the Desi restaurants in this area. Like other reviews, if the Restaurant is empty,…read morethat is a red flag. Of course, most of the time, the restaurant will be empty. I regularly buy food from all the Desi restaurants in this area. I buy here for change and order Beef Biryani once in a while. Last time, a few weeks ago, I bought Beef Biryani to go. At home, when I tried to eat the Biryani, the meat was hard like charcoal. I was very polite, called them and I told them, I did not ask for any refund, but what I asked that lady to let me know which day they will cook fresh biryani, so if i wanted to buy biryani i will come on that day, usually butcher shop, fresh produce grocery shop they have certain days of the week where they get fresh produce, meat etc. But that lady was very arrogant, as if they were the only people cooking biryani in this world, and she said it depends on cook, meat might have been cooked 2 or 5 or 7 days no certain time frame, then i asked her that is Ok at least tell me while ordering so I will decide if i wanted to buy or pass on to next time. I am the one who was supposed to be upset, but she was very arrogant; I don't need to talk about Biryani, as she has the copyright for Biryani and said she will not know, only the chef knows ever after I politely asked to verify with the chef and tell me, she was angry. I made a mistake; I should have taken the biryani with the meat and reported to the county health inspectors. They should raid this restaurant, issue a citation, and shut it down. This type of attitude is not going to help. You can see relatively new Desi Bites, Market Cafe, and many other Indian restaurants, mostly crowded and Al-Medinah Restaurant is mostly empty, which speaks volumes

We parked across the street from Tulsi. There was ample parking in the lot, and street parking,…read moretoo, on a Wednesday around 8 pm. The decor here is fabulous. Tulsi feels extravagant and upscale from the moment you enter. The lighting was lovely, each of the different lamps exquisitely lining the walls provided a golden hue throughout the space. We were seated immediately with no reservations. The atmosphere was quiet and cozy, great for couples to catch up and talk about their days or get to know one another. Our server was attentive and polite. He gave us time to peruse the menu at our leisure, while he brought out the gratis before-the-meal appetizer. It was like a crispy naan with three distinctly different sauces. It really was quite delicious. I ordered the Chicken Konkani and my partner had the Chicken Curry. As connoisseurs of a great many Indian restaurants, we quite enjoyed the entrees at Tulsi. I savored the coconut creaminess of the Konkani. I also tried my partner's curry, and it had a rich aromatic flavor as well. We didn't try dessert because we were simply too stuffed by the end. The choices were almost tempting enough to persuade me, but we refrained. Tulsi is for lovers, just like Virginia, so we were in great company. I wholeheartedly recommend giving this spot a chance. We will definitely be back to partake in the fine dining experience on offer here.

It was a beautiful day out and I didn't wanna go home to figure out dinner. I wanted to be out and…read moreabout amongst the peoples! Picked my sons up....they didn't wanna hang with me, even a little. SOOOO I went to dinner at Tulsi. BY MYSELF The place would be great for a date or a little romance. The ambiance was a lil sultry as the sun went down. The amount of food they give you is substantial. I had the lamb tandoori it came out sizzling like fajitas or the east(I'm sorry if that was racist) The naan was delish But the STAR was the lemon-drop martini I had. Bartender must have saw, me a solo diner that had been abandoned by her own younglings and felt for me because that thang was STRONG and I appreciated it. I was a little tipsy(I don't usually drink so it did not take a lot) it was cool because my big one will drive. At the end I had plenty of leftovers that my sons will get NONE of. It was enjoyable. Will recommend

A bit spicy for my taste. But I am not Indian and didn't grow up with spicy food. We love the masala dosa. The one filed with potatoes. And the dessert. Ras Mali It is welled packed for take out. But I had to open and take a bite of the maslas dosa they pack it well. The dosa is folded and in the take out container and the potatoes are in a plastic container to keep separate. I broke off a small portion and put some of the potatoes on the wrap. Excellent. A bit spicy but delicious. The picked up dosa is pictured here.

Only here to judge the food as we had it delivered so I can't really speak on the service outside…read moreof it being delivered as promised or the ambiance! The food was a solid 4/5 only missing the mark as the garlic naan was soggy (not from travel because we live super close to the location) seemed too oily/greasy which was a bummer as the taste was spot on so garlicky! Entree's: butter chicken 5/5 spicy and well seasoned probably some of the best we've had. Shrimp biryani 4/5 same very well seasoned and spicy (medium spice is spicy but loved it) and a great portion size with ample small shrimp and ginger chicken 4/5 smaller in portions but super tender and well seasoned. The rice and all the sauces were good also. The veggie samosas 5/5 which were huge and they give you 5! Yes 5 for $7 (via UberEats). A good mix of items to try and we were very pleased and will definitely return! Yum!
