This was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've ever had. I've stayed at…read morethis hotel many times over the years and have referred countless friends, family members, and clients who have also booked stays here. Because of that history, I never expected to be treated this way. We experienced a genuine family emergency that forced us to leave early and requested a refund for our unused Sunday and Monday nights. These were weekday nights not a weekend or holiday, and the hotel kept 100% of the charges for both nights despite us not being there. What made the situation even worse was the amount of time we had to spend going back and forth during an already stressful family emergency. The front desk staff repeatedly told us they understood and agreed a refund was appropriate, but the owner instructed them not to issue one. For several days, staff members seemed confused about the situation, while the owner/manager refused to respond to phone calls or text messages. We were left waiting, following up repeatedly, and receiving no direct communication from the person making the decision. I understand businesses have cancellation policies, but there should also be room for compassion and reasonable discretion, especially for LOYAL, repeat guests who have spent thousands of dollars over the years and have personally referred many others to stay here. Unfortunately, this experience erased years of goodwill. Customer service is tested when something unexpected happens, and this hotel failed that test. We will NEVER stay here again, and after this experience, I can no longer recommend it to friends, family, or clients. What a HUGE disappointment Cottage Grove. Not the way you treat your loyal customers.

I recently stayed three nights at Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga, paying about $1,997 total. The…read moreproperty is charming at first glance--beautiful garden setting, cottage-style rooms on a tree-lined street, and very friendly, warm service. The grounds are well kept and the inn is clean, with clear potential to be a truly special place. However, at nearly $700 per night on a weekend, the experience fell well short of expectations. The property feels underinvested. The furnishings are dated and worn rather than intentionally antique, and the bathroom is significantly outdated. Towels were also visibly old and frayed. The biggest issue was the bed. It was extremely uncomfortable--more like old, degraded foam than a supportive mattress--and made sleep difficult, with noticeable motion transfer even with a partner. We pulled back the bedding and found an old foam topper over a worn, stained mattress. Using a photo of the manufacturer's label, we determined the mattress was manufactured in September 1996 and likely purchased at Square Deal Mattress Factory in Chico, CA. If accurate, that would make the mattress over 30 years old, which is far beyond any reasonable replacement cycle for a hospitality property at this price point. Breakfast was also disappointing--limited, mostly store-bought items such as stale croissants, basic English muffins, and very weak coffee with minimal quality or attention to detail. In summary, Cottage Grove Inn has a beautiful setting, clean rooms, and excellent staff, but the lack of investment in core comfort elements--especially beds, bathrooms, and furnishings--makes the value difficult to justify. I would not return at the current price level without significant updates.

From the get go, the manager and workers were all so friendly and helpful. There were initially some issues with dynamic pricing, but they were able to correct things on the back end, which was much appreciated. The main building and breakfast area are both very warm and inviting. The couches and seats are comfortable. There are games and books in the cabinet areas too. The chef provides a tasty breakfast each day, with the menu slightly changing. There is coffee, tea, and hot/cool water available all day. It can get a little crowded at breakfast, so if you are in a large group, go either very early or very late. The afternoon happy hour is pretty relaxed with some offerings of cheese, crackers, and wine. Be sure to ask for gluten-free options, as they have them available. They also prepared nice chocolates for my parents (anniversary) and a cookie for my nephew (birthday), which was a lovely touch. The rooms are fine, some are a little darker and/more dated, but that didn't bother us. The one thing that I would've done differently, is to bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Depending on where your room is located, you could be facing the main street. The doors in certain buildings would slam pretty loudly, so if you had neighbors returning late at night, you would definitely hear them. I am a little fussy with beds, and I found the Vitners King (seemed more like a Cali King?) bed to be a little firm and transferred movement easily. We would consider splurging for the updated rooms next time. Bonus that they have cruiser bikes to borrow. It was very nice to go for a quick ride one of the mornings. The location is fantastic, it's within walking distance to downtown. There are so many great restaurants to visit. In addition, wineries and parks are also a close drive away. Overall a great place to stay and we really enjoyed our visit, thank you!

Chris told some hysterical stories and Brent played straight man and was an incredible chef. Our room was very comfortable and wine and cheese on the porch in the late afternoon made the whole stay just the relaxing time we needed. From the moment we arrived, Brent and Chris made us feel like old friends coming home. The evening wine and cheese hour was such a treat. Local wines, great cheeses, and friendly conversation with other guests created this wonderful sense of community. And breakfast? Out of this world. Perfectly fluffy beignets, a croque madame baked in a delicate crepe, and berries tossed in a spiced wine syrup with cinnamon and star anise. It honestly rivaled any restaurant brunch I've ever had. The big wraparound porch was our favorite spot to relax, whether sipping morning coffee or enjoying a glass of wine at sunset. The location is ideal too, right in downtown Calistoga but still incredibly quiet and peaceful at night. Every detail here feels thoughtful, and every interaction genuine. You arrive as guests, but you really do leave as friends.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The lady who assisted us was incredibly kind and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. Her warm hospitality truly made our stay even more special. The cottage was cozy, romantic, and just what we were hoping for. We especially loved the jetted tub, it was so relaxing and exactly what we needed. The scenery around the property was beautiful and peaceful, creating the perfect atmosphere for a birthday getaway. The thoughtful touches meant so much to us, the wine bottle and the birthday wishes were such a nice surprise. We also really enjoyed the breakfast; it was delicious and a great way to start the morning. Overall, we had an amazing night. It was much needed, and we're so glad we chose to celebrate there. We will definitely be coming back soon. P.s my man was skeptical at first cause the price but in the end he loved it I knew he would. Can't forget the mimosas too. We loved everything. But, I still find this room and hotel to be worth it regardless of that. It's precious. & hopefully they just dust & replace the bed soon :)

There are fruits and vegetables and flowers and just about everything you can imagine in just a beautiful setting. And she is just so proud of what she has and loves nothing more than sharing it with her guests, we know that firsthand. The room itself that we have which is in the cottage House is quaint and simple but really quite comfortable. everything is clean and they are just so attentive for anything you could possibly need or want. As we are not staying in the main house we get a continental style breakfast in the morning and again Mimi goes out of the way to provide freshly baked breads and muffins and fruit that she's picked from her trees and tomatoes that she's picked from her gardens And homemade jams again from the fruits of her garden and does everything possible to make you enjoy yourselves. And this year we have also been fortunate enough for her to provide us with these incredible homemade organic exquisite unusual iced teas again from various ingredients on her property. They are delicious and unlike anything we've ever had. And once again not to be repetitive or redundant, but this is not something that she has to do for us this is something that she wants to do just to share because that's what kind of person she is. Beautiful place beautiful setting beautiful location. no it's not a five-star resort but for what you are getting in this incredible setting it's hard to imagine that every single person that stays here doesn't enjoy it like we do.

The physical facilities were charming, clean (but there were some ants as might be expected in an organically run facility), and really comfortable. The breakfast that Mimi made consisted of fresh fruits, homemade bread, and different egg dishes on our two days there of the highest quality. The 3 acres contain a plethora of fruits, flowers, trees, and is there to enjoy. There are many areas where one can sit and simply enjoy what's there. Mimi and Ed are extremely hard-working hosts and enjoyable to talk with. One may wonder about the price; when I mentioned it to my daughter, she said, "oh that's cheap!" While I may not agree with that, I can say that it was alright for our celebration. I don't know how to price an experience; it's different for everybody.
