The name Fat Boys Butchery and Carniceria May seem redundant but I also understand why they did it…read more When I think "butcher", I think beef. When I think "carniceria", I think Mexican butcher. This business is definitely both. They have a plethora of Texas cuts of meat sourced from Texas ranches, They have both pre-packaged and counter-fresh. On the flip side, they also have an abundance of fajitas, chorizo, al pastor, and other Mexican meats, typically found at traditional taquerias. We bought their in-house recipe chorizo and a bacon-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with jalapeños and pepper Jack cheese. We haven't cooked the chicken yet but I hope it's as spicy as it sounds. The butcher is in Monday - Friday but they're open 7 days a week. If you don't live in town but want to call ahead, they'll have you're order ready when you arrive. This is perfect for all the hunters that visit San Saba from October - January. They also have a small selection of Mexican brand groceries that are not available at the local grocery store. This is a great business addition for San Saba. They are conveniently located about 1 mile west of downtown on Hwy 190. Bottom line - A great combination of an American and Mexican Butcher shop. I'll definitely shop here again. Bon appétit, y'all.

Outstanding steaks! I finally have found a go to place here in Texas to get good meat. I live in…read moreAlaska and come down to visit my wife's family at least once a year, and I feel like I struck gold. We bought some New York steaks to grill and hands down those were the best steaks I've had. I love buying local so whether you live in the Granbury "metro" area or are passing thru, and you're looking for good steaks (and they have a lot of other stuff too!), look no further. The location is non-descriptive, right next to a gas station in a small store front. Don't let it fool you. Mike, the meat man, was very friendly, the customer service is friendly and down home. I'll look forward to brining some Texas beef with me back to Alaska, thank you for providing excellent, quality beef!

Little late to this review, but now that I'm feeding my dog the meat, I feel it's a good time. I…read moretypically wouldn't give this place a bad review because their beef and other choices are great. I'm giving them a bad review for after hours deer processing. I dropped off a neatly quartered deer a few years ago and gave them a cut sheet, nearly a straight cut and super simple. None of the silver skin was trimmed, they completely did their own thing against my cut sheet, and I didn't receive hardly anything I actually asked for besides the ground burger. At that, the burger was full of silver skin and wouldn't pack. I was also charged $2.50/lb which is about 100% more than any local processor... total cost was $280... pretty expensive dog food. I was expecting top line cuts which I was excited about. Extreme let down. Do not make the same mistake I did! Take your deer to a local processor or do it yourself if you can. Not a knock against their normal product, just a warning if you ever considered dropping your deer off for "premium" processing.

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!

We have tried several different burgers, the chicken fried steak, and the tacos. All have been just wonderful. Tonight, I had the steak fingers with grilled vegetables and steamed broccoli. The steak fingers were absolutely huge, and the grilled vegetables and steamed broccoli were just fantastic. Nothing is better than a steak finger dipped in a big old bowl of white homemade gravy! I was only able to eat half, so there was definitely leftovers. And since I was so full, that means dessert had to be to go. Most places now charge seven or eight dollars for a piece of cake. Here, you can still get a piece of cake for four dollars! Heck of a deal! If you're ever in Eastland Texas, I definitely recommend you give this place a try.

My husband and I finally got to visit Wise Choice Custom Meats today! We were super excited to find…read morethis local meat market, as we normally order through Porter Road and have to wait on shipping for weeks sometimes. This is a game changer :D There are freezers full of delicious frozen offerings, fries, jalepeno taters, fried pickles, etc, and we grabbed a few to try. Also, there is a wall of quite the selection of local honey, jams, etc. BUT the real gem, the raw meat counter was chock-full of incredible cuts and varieties of meats! We decided to try to the cordon bleu chicken and brisket poppers this trip, as well as an 18 pound brisket, YUM! The employees were ready to help with any questions and even handed us a basket when our hands started to get too full. So grateful! I will note for future review readers, there is about a 4% card charge. Apparently there are signs that I missed while I was busy bouncing my eyes from product to product, so I ended up having to call once I got home about why the receipt showed a much high price than the label on the meats. So, the price label on the products is the cash price, totally understandable! In conclusion, Wise Choice exceeded our expectations on meat selection, and they even have Diet Dr Pepper and Topo Chico (I didn't have to run to Walmart for sodas! Woohoo!). Thanks team!!

Came across this place when I started to take my dog to the dog park across the street. Came here…read moreabout four times (every week since I saw it) now and every time I come, I usually have a really good experience and the quality of meat is always pretty good. I spend almost couple hundred dollars each time I go and this last time I bought a seasoning and when I got home to use it, it was unsealed and the seasoning was pretty hard so I assumed that maybe some moisture got into it. I went back to go see if I can exchange it for a new one and the blonde lady that was working there, not sure if she's the owner or whatever but stared at me as if I was just talking out of my ass, then walked over to the seasonings just to then talk to me like I was stupid and acted like I didn't know what i was talking about or I was lying about it being opened and then tried to convince me that all of the seasonings Are like that. She also said that the lid most likely tore the seal off itself, which that has never happened to me before but either way, the seasoning was hard, and there was no telling how long it had been open on the shelf. Some of them did stick closer to the top, but once you shook it, it all easily broke apart, the one I have is almost completely solid from top to bottom. EITHER WAY, I would've loved a seasoning that was completely sealed when I open it. Instead of just exchanging the $12 seasoning after spending almost $200 there just a couple days before, she gave me a really hard time about it and was super rude and basically told me none of the other seasonings were any better like a "too bad, so sad" attitude. I just said OK and she just walked right back to the front without saying another word to me. Her facial expressions and the way she quickly dismissed me was just so uninviting and disrespectful and me and my toddler just walked out. We won't be going back there. I'll find a new place to get our meat.

I have em the benefit of the doubt but my wife gave the white glove treatment. She noticed bacon under the display. Dried out cubed steaks. The floor didn't look tidy.
