I love walking into foreign food grocery store as I feel like I'm on holiday in a foreign place. The unique smells, items, labels are so exciting to discover that I can spend a long time discovering different cultures just by looking at what's for sale. So, of course I was going to walk into a place called Russkis Deli which looked like it was part of a propaganda video. The bright yellow star on the storefront and the bright red colours had me sold... Inside the store you'll find a wide range of goods including a confectionary, wines, cheese, chocolates, meats and salads. Prices are reasonable and I'm sure you'll find at least one item worthy of a purchase. My favourite is the gazillion different types of pickled vegetables. They also do takeaways, so if you're feeling like a cultural experience why not pop into this Russian Revolution.

If Piroshki's, Borsch, Blini's and Sirniki's get you salivating then you need to get your good self down to Russkis Deli. This store has a huge selection of Russian and Eastern European-style foods - including a fridge of fascinating bright coloured cans and jars in Russian - as well as lots of other foods. The deli section boasts pickled herring, pates, pickled cucumbers, olives, salads and more. There's also host of sweet deserts and chocolates and confectionery as well as breads and crackers on the shelves.

    Oh soft water! So smooth

Now having…read morediscovered this Coles, I feel rather lucky to come to Yoga inside the shopping centre where this supermarket is situated once a week; and on this I always make a visit to Coles at Westfield Bondi Junction without fail. Pity they don't award Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for purchases over $30 like their major competitor does. The airy ambience and bright lighting is so welcoming. Love the fresh fruit display as you walk in. Fresh quality fruit, and ever so welcoming. Love a kilo of Red Delicious Apples ($5.50) in particular, they're juicy as. I stock up on these for the next few days ahead. The pizza bar right near the sit down (or take away) sushi bar and cafe is just amazing. I have tried the meat lovers and tropicana pizzas ($5 a slice in the past), and today I enjoyed a full serve of some Peri Peri Chicken Pizza ($5) while killing some time prior to an important dentists appointment. Generous pieces of chicken with the right amount of tangy sauce, with a few pieces of sun dried tomato succumbed to the senses and hit the spot at around 11am. These ingredients are clearly fresh, and they combine well with the cheese - mmmm swiss cheese. Today, there were samples of this and the grilled haloumi and pumpkin pizza for free - such a filling lunch in itself. There were also free samples of some hot chicken curry pie, and in the deli section some beautiful meats and cheeses to try. You do not feel like you've stepped into a supermarket when in these areas, and the service is friendly and consistently good. You can even pay for your groceries at the pizza bar. Coconut water never seems to escape you at this particular Coles either. I stock up (as best as possible) on 1 litre bottles of coconut water from here despite the constant fluctuations on prices (inflation, excuse me) with an abundance of these always on special. I need such for my daily green elixir that appears to be working, although not in areas of my body where I really want (and need it to) as of late. You can move quickly in the self service checkouts too. Come here for: * Piping hot pizza slices for five bucks - tick. * Free food samples (if you're lucky) - tick, tick. * Fresh fruit - tick, tick, tick. * Coconut water at inflated prices - tick, tick, tick, tick.

I was concerned about a lot of things, the hottest topic being how far the closest Woolys/IGA/[insert large brand supermarket] was from our prospective location. The humble storefront Nio and Tony's occupies didn't help. I thought it was merely adding insult to injury, you know, of living in such a dire location... That is, until I stepped inside and found myself in Mary Poppin's handbag. I don't know how a store this tiny manages to do it, but they have *everything* the hubs and I used to cross all over town for. These guys have the specialty items we need (think Paul's skim lactose free milk and gluten free products), fresh fish and poultry, a fully stocked Greek deli with cheese, bread and insanely delicious looking desserts, fresh flowers - and magically - every type of home-ware we've needed from lightbulbs to extension cords to mops. And the price-checker in me is happy to report that it's not anymore expensive than you'd find at one of the bigger guys. All this aside, the fellows inside (let's hope it's really Nio and Tony) are as sweet as can be. I spent more than a few big Olympic nights loitering a bit too long in their shop until I learned that the whole local community was doing the same thing. North Bondi is lucky to have such a great local shop.
