My fruit & veg I get from a n awesome Chinese grocer, or the local fruit shop. But if I need washing powder? Or a toothbrush? Or Tim Tams at 50% off? Yep. The big W. They have a huuuge cheese selection for a local supermarket, plus plenty of olives and a great range of organic products - ahh, Marrickville I love you. They also have some of the best Turkish delight I've ever tasted. Available in almond, vanilla and rose, it'll set you back just a few dollars for a plate and is great to take along to dinner parties. (Look near the dried fruit and nut section in the fresh fruit department.) The Banana Joe's website has a great tabouli recipe too!

I love Banana Joes…read more They have much better produce than Coles or Woolies and lots of specialty gluten free items, cheeses, cured meats and... just other quirky things, sometimes organic and health foodish, sometimes ethnic that are really good and/or hard to find. They have Chobani Greek Yoghurt (hit or miss at other supermarkets) and if they could just get on the Puregg Egg White train, I could ditch Woolies at Marrickville Metro completely and just shop here.

It is a relatively small shop and hence the limited selection of goods. Some items are cheaper than Randwick Oriental Supermarket ! (hurray!) The best part is they accept Eftpos, unlike cash-only at Randwick Oriental supermarket. The cashier is nice and friendly. Would recommend it if you happen to shop at Coles & are missing a few Asian ingredients ;)

Aldi is the next big supermarket chain to the two Giants that are Woolies and Coles. Hard to…read morebelieve because they don't get much media attention and don't have those catchy "down down" or "fresh food people" jingles that we all love to loath. This supermarket has been opened in Bondi Junction since 2014 sometime. I decided I would give it a chance after all you got to check out different places for options sometimes. I have shopped in Aldi in Europe so knew what to expect. This store is a little fancier then your typical Aldi in that it's got wooden floors and a lot more spacious then some of them. You can definitely see that prices are cheaper in here. Might not have all the household names but if you were selective with your shopping you can trim your weekly shop for sure. They are good for meats and fresh produce and pantry items that brands don't matter so much. Aldi doesn't offer bags though so be prepared with your own and on Occassion you can get quite a long line up for the register as they aren't big on service here. Tonight though wasn't any problem with that but be prepared to wait if it's a peak time. Would come back here again because I did save money compared to what I would pay with the Giants.
