Absolutely disgraceful, that Woolworths is the only major retailer in Australia to enforce a no change of mind policy. They refuse even with a receipt to give you your money back. Disgusting. They sell items beyond food, but have the arrogance to say no refund, go spend your money in the store only. As if we don't spend enough and regularly. Whoever enforced that rule should be sacked. It might make your bottom line look better in the short term, but in the long term having such atrocious disrespectful customer service to regular customers, will see this company go down hill in the future. They think they are being smart, but they are actually creating long term business suicide. I know every company will take my money, but I watch to see if I return something how they treat me. I had no clue that Woolworths existed anymore until I came to Australia to visit. Very small location and essentially is the same as a Walgreens except on a smaller scale. Selection was mediocre and prices were ok. I was dissapointed as I was expecting it to be more of a grocery store. read more

Great location right next to the Town Hall subway stop! This place is huge! This grocer is located right in the heart of the Central Business District, with a quite convenient location- right down the way from Hyde Park. It's a multi-story grocery store! Fortunately, there's an escalator that takes you up to the subsequent floors! Just hop on and you're cruising up to the top floors like a pole cat up a tree! They sell kangaroo! I managed to get a few packs of kangaroo jerky here! Won't the folks back home be jealous?! They had a good sized butcher shop, with lots of fresh looking meats. The produce selection was good sized. They were giving out free samples of cookies, which is always appreciated. Many of the aisles are only like chest high, I guess to cut back on 'shrinkage.' But the aisles are clean, and the staff was friendly. I had to check out on a self-checker kiosk. For some reason, the bananas were tipped in red wax- fancy! Never seen that one before. read more

This place is the Walmart equivalent back in the states. It has a wide range of items for your needs all separated by different floors that you can access with an escalator. I was able to get all the essentials for my little nephew like diapers, wipes, & formula. I was also able to get the basic goodies I needed like a toothbrush and a 6 pack of 1 liter water bottles for me at a very low coast. The only thing was that it was way overcrowded with very long lines to purchase my items. It was hard to find someone to ask for help to find certain items. Anyone who has lived in Sydney for a long time will know this place as a central spot in the city. It is opposite the Sydney Town Hall. It does cater for the tourist but at the same time it does have a good range of goods on 3 floors. Below ground the mini supermarket with lots of fresh food is ideal when people are running for the train and on the way to work. The food is very fresh and a very fast turn over and fast service. The little bistro upstairs is popular with the elderly at lunchtime. No fancy meals but a good range of food from $7.50 to $12.00. Mainly elderly folk having a hot meal in the middle of the day. The meal can be delivered to the table if there is a mobility problem. read more

The location of Woolworth's has to be the first thing mentioned. It's truly in the centre of the city. Ultimately it's more then a shop, it's a meeting point for 1000's people each and every day . The prices are competitive for a store in the centre of the city .special are stacked to the rough and always clear and easy to find. The grocery has a butcher and plenty of baked goods on offer and even a sushi counter. The store has multiple Levels with animal supplies , cooking needs as well as household. Plenty of staff working here, shelves are full and the kind for the register is never too long . Good store. read more

When I travel abroad, visiting supermarkets is a MUST! For me, that's the highlight of my trip; I prefer it to landmarks! Woolworths is really worthy of a visit. Three floors of all you could want. The price here are very affordable and there's a lot of sales and discounts. I bought an endless amount of of snacks and fish oil supplements. Thing location is very easy to find as it's near a lot of attractions and it's a walking distance from Chinatown. read more

Very convenient location at the Town Hall station with everything you need for a good price! I often got groceries, snacks, water, and anything else I wanted here on the way back home. The escalators are a bit small and it gets pretty crowded at time so be aware of that. Sometimes it's hard to get help just cause there are so many people. They'll also be getting rid of plastic bags soon. read more

Woolworths is slightly better than Coles on produce and selection, and this location is lively (in a good way) since it's 24hrs and next to subway. Prices are high, as with other Australian supermarkets. It's too bad Woolworth's in Australia isn't like the ones in South Africa, which is superb. The restaurant/cafe on the top floor looks dated, probably a better use for this space. read more

Remember the good old days of Woolworths? Ok, well I'm not old enough to really remember any of that but I have to say that Wooly's is everything I imagined it to be and more. It is completely unrelated to the old Woolworths from the states, but pretty much a similar concept. They even have a food counter. This place has everything anyone could ever need. I'm sure all the prices are not the best, but keep your eye on the sale flyers and you can get some good deals. There are wide varieties of brands and variations of items. Gluten free, holiday selections, snacks, goodies from around the globe. Tim Tams. Oh yes! Tim Tams. This is where my eternal love of Tim Tams started. One can never have enough Tim Tams. The personnel are friendly and helpful. This location gets crazy busy, but they really work hard to keep the shelves stocked. It's a great central location in the city. This is my goto local supermarket which has a good selection of general groceries, as well as fresh bread from the bakery, and a great selection of snack/junk food (which also have some specials sometimes) For those who are taking a train anywhere from Town Hall Station, you can also buy a ticket here in the form of the MyMulti pass which allows you to use all forms of public transport, so combining this with your groceries allows you to earn frequent flier points from the Woolworths everyday . And for the city residents, in case the rent is a bit expensive, you can save a bit of money on food if you come here after 7 or 8 where there is discounts to be had from the bakery as they try to offload all the fresh food (and also discounts on sushi - but the selection isn't very good as most of the good stuff is taken. Sometimes you can get some cheap sashimi if you are lucky) read more

The convenience of this location is the reason why it's ALWAYS packed. No matter the hour of the day, there are always heaps of people queuing up to make a purchase. Try to avoid the early-evening rush when everyone's getting off work. It's a tough decision between Coles and Woolworths. Both offer pretty much the same selection of goods, but the sales are sometimes better at one or the other. If you have time to shop at both, do so! You can save yourself a bit of money. The roasted chicken is better at Woolworths than Coles and it's only $8 on Tuesdays! That's $2 cheaper than Coles. read more

What's there to say about this building? It's an Woolworth's. Tbh it's not a big grocery range but they have a lot of specials on junk food and cheap Chinese kitchen products. Conveniently perched atop Town HALL station, think of it as a big $2 shop without the recording of that annoying English arsehole where you can pick up some essentials on your way home to Moss Vale or Wyong cause you can't afford to rent a 700$ a week 28 sqm studio in Sydney ffs. The iconic upstairs cafe has pretty shocking food, and I think you need to be accompanied by a depressed looking senior citizen to get in, but it's ok if you get a winda seat. The lower levels stink of fish everytime I go there, the destitutes that congregate outside and weird buskers add to the overall ambience. read more

I find Sydney CBD supermarkets depressing all-around, but this is my least favorite. If you're looking to save a buck, walk a few blocks down to the Coles at World Square. This place is a tourist ripoff because of the central location. Main floor is mostly biscuits and heaps of lollies, so beware swarms of children after 2pm. Underground is produce and more packaged goods; upstairs is housewares. read more

Three floors! Large selection of everything you need - deli, dairy, meats, veggies, fruit, etc and a good selection of snack foods and drinks for cheaper than convenience store prices. Also they have a bakery and sushi counter. Only downside is that it's always super crowded. read more
