I was so surprised at how busy it was even on such a rainy day, but I can see why it stays so busy. Every vendor we've stopped at has been helpful and friendly. We usually stop at the pet tent- our pups love the baked pumpkin treats! Parking can be a bit difficult and I just realized today that you cannot park in the CVS parking lot when going to the farmers market. Sometimes we'll park behind Odysseus, grab some coffee and walk over. If you plan on buying a good amount of veggies, fruits, misc its a good idea to bring a wagon.

Some farmers specialize in organic vegetables, and there are some who offer vegetables and mushrooms used in Asian cooking. There are a number of bakeries represented, including Cannelle's, which offers fresh banquettes and sweet and savory pastries. Ground Control serves delicious coffee, hot and iced. Try my favorite, the iced vanilla latte. It's to die for. The artisans in the market sell items made out of wood, beads and ceramics. There are lovely wooden bowls and cutting boards, jewelry, pottery and even soaps and perfumes, just to name a few. There is even an artisan who sharpens knives, scissors and other blades. My family has a CSA with the Goetz Farm so we're at the market every week to pick up our box of fresh fruit and vegetables. I can tell you this market is very popular and well attended. It's a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a donut and sit down to enjoy the parade of adults, children, and dogs passing by. During the market season, there are several celebrations. I'm particularly fond of Halloween when kids, adults and dogs come in costume. I've been to a lot of farmers markets in my time, and Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market is still my favorite. Check it out for yourself.

I finally had the opportunity to go this version of the Flint Farmers' Market and I was pleasantly…read moresurprised. It is centrally located downtown and shares a decent sized free parking lot with a few other businesses. Inside there are a plethora of small businesses including restaurants, bakeries, a gallery, stores and the Flint Children's Museum and Store. In the back there are plenty of tables and seats to enjoy your meal or snack while there. I was just there to browse and see what they have to offer but unfortunately, I wasn't able to return to try any of the establishments. I do hope to try something on the next go around. On the day that I visited, it was clean, organized and easy to navigate; for the most part it goes around in a circle with only a few businesses e.g. pizza, ice cream place, etc. tucked in a corner. It definitely was worth stopping in to see what it was all about.

It's the layout. A better structure would make all the difference. Let's be real, some of these places can be high end, so I would love a cleaner, more polished feel to the place overall. That can start with the central dining area. It's not nice. It could be rustic and a place people would want to sit and have coffee. Unless it's Steady Eddy's, I'm taking my food to go. The place severely needs a makeover. It's right by the college. Capitalize on that. Make it an environment that is friendly and they will come and patronize regularly. I should know- I used to be one of those students. Let's talk about parking. Yep- I'm going to move every last of those orange cones every single time to create more parking. You're welcome people of Flint. Whoever is doing that has no common sense. And now the good- clean bathrooms. Yay! Air conditioned shopping is a plus. There are an excellent variety of vendors. Now do them proud. Tile the floor with interesting art. Bring in different woods to give a homey feel. Get rid of that flea market vibe and make it alt art chic. You're a step away from greatness. You can do this. Reinvest in your structure.
