Well when parking in back on side drive a big roll up door opened into this place Red Truck Produce and Deli. Found a dozen tables in middle of mega selection of fresh produce every other business be all about the Meats n Fish. We walked around first then came back for a enjoyable lunch. It is an indoor food market in the Eastern Market District at the corner of Gratiot and Russell St. There are 8 different vendors that sell everything from beef, pork, fish, and poultry, to baked goods, cheese and health products. Red Truck Fresh Produce is the first full-time produce store in Gratiot Central Market . Order a couple house made Soups by Krista a true master of Oxtail Soup OMG delicious addiction. Eastern Market is a fun destination in Detroit. I had been to the area before but hadn't checked…read moreout the market stalls until my most recent visit. There are several different "sheds" which are basically huge barns that house tons of different local vendors--everything from produce, plants, ready made food, apparel, sweet treats, handmade crafts, coffee and other drinks, etc. We had a blast looking around each of the sheds and saw lots of interesting items. We didn't end up buying anything, but I would love to go back again. The market is open on Saturdays year round, and even in the coldest January weather there were a lot of people there! They have extended hours in the summer months. One of the best parts of visiting the market was the ample free parking in their lots. We also had fun exploring the neighboring shops and restaurants! If you like a good farmers market, be sure to add Eastern Market to your list to check out.

They have such a great variety from ready to eat food to fresh butchered meats, dried legumes, fresh flowers, clothes, crafts, and more. Its's an experience! You can't go wrong with ANY of the ready to eat food. I had a life altering chicken hand pie. It's got a cool industrial vibe. Dress warm!

But for those who live in Bricktown or Greektown or perhaps you're staying at one of the nearby hotels, it's got what you need. Everything from snacks and drinks to laundry detergent and fresh meats. There's barely enough room for two people to pass down an aisle so be prepared. But for us, looking for beers and some spirits to enjoy back at the hotel? Just what we needed. Definitely a cool stop in (or near?) eastern market in Detroit. It's 3 floors but the one you…read moredefinitely want to check out is the first. They sell edible goods local, foreign, and basic. The problem is that everything is somewhat to grossly overpriced. The local stuff sure - for example, I paid $2.50 a piece for Bev's Bagels (decent, nothing compared to mid tier NYC bagels but better than the vast majority of what you can find in southern Michigan). But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Overall it's a cool store and definitely worth checking out, but unless you're looking for a particularly rare cheese the likelihood of finding anything worth purchasing is slim.

We've been coming here, off and on, for forty-five years and it's still a highlight. A specialized grocery with additional items and plenty of local products. Folks have started calling it the charcuterie store. Stop. That's kinda strange. They do have a fabulous selection of great meats and cheeses. But there's so much more. We buy a lot of gifts, especially from the third floor. Everyone raves about the novelty of the elevator that's over 120 years old. Detroit has many of these lifts. When you have work to do here, they're not that cool anymore. But you should come discover them. It's Eastern Market so it will be pricey. You come for the experience. You can always window shop. Finally, I've read a few reviews about a rude, condescending woman behind the cheese counter...they're 100% correct...she's a bitch. 11/24
