Wonderful and memorable experience! We did the Dublin Wicklow pub tour. Our host was Shane and he was so knowledgeable and so much fun, we could have just stayed in the van all day without stopping anywhere. We visited several pubs on the tour, each with it's own charm and history. Some had really nice craft beers too. The two stops that we enjoyed the most was Johnnie Fox's and The Blue Light. The Blue Light was our last stop where we were able to participate in a live music/open mic session. It was small and cramped but cozy. People made room for us. Loved it. As we were sitting there, all of a sudden the most amazing beautiful voice came out of nowhere and starting singing. Literally stunned us with her voice. I will never forget that moment and it was a perfect way to end the night. If you are looking for a unique experience while in Dublin, take the rural pub tour. It was amazing! A must while staying in Ireland. Listen to the reviews and go with the longer tour. I'm sure you'd have just as much fun on the shorter tour because they do a fantastic job. Your on this tour with other like minded individuals, so it's sure to be a great time. Shane knows the city and is an excellent tour guide. Kicking off the tour we took a ride about an hour out of Dublin. We get the longest ride out of the way first. We settled in a place called the cartoon pub. I'll let Shane give you the story behind the pub, but this was a tremendous start to our day. The people were very friendly and the patrons were welcoming. After spending about an hour there we were off to destination number 2 - a grocery store and a pub. What an amazing concept. I hope this popularizes in the US someday. Destination #3 included a highland cow giving birth. We didn't see the actual birth, but we were did get to snap a photo of the newborn on the way out. The food was great and the drinks were flowing. Our 4th stop was a great local pub that started to make me realize that I'd never be able to drive these streets and complete this tour on my own. Once again, a great opportunity to add to the photo collection. At the next stop the main hall included live music. The banquet area is reserved for larger groups, but we were able to join them with a little influence from Shane. There was another musician in the main room that sounded great as we moved on to the next destination. In my opinion, the last destination is the best. We showed up to the pub and enjoyed a pint while listening to live music. The music was played in a small intimate setting with an opportunity to get up close for a listen. The gentlemen played songs and told stories the entire evening. It was a solid crowd for a Tuesday. These men possessed an amazing talent and more than singing or storytelling this was tradition. The only thing I'd change about this trip is to have someone else drive the bus home so Shane could drink with us. Do the tour, you'll love it. read more

If I could give this tour 10 starts I would. I was in Ireland traveling for 7 days and I can absolutely say this pub tour was my favorite part of the entire trip. Shane is a hoot and was the best tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about anything and everything Ireland related and made the tour so exciting. The tour we did went to three different pubs in the mountains to meet with locals, drink some beers and sing along to some live Irish music. The best part was meeting the locals; they are all extremely friendly and so much fun to chat and drink beer with. I can't say enough great things about this tour. This is my second time in two years doing this tour. I had so much fun the first time that I had to do it again but I brought more people with me this time. This is a great way to meet people and make new friends while enjoying a different view of Dublin and some pubs that the locals frequent. On our way out to the first pub, our host, Shane, have us a great overview of what to expect for the day ahead of us. He also shared some interesting facts and history about places we passed along the way. What a beautiful view of the countryside in a clean 15 passenger van with big windows so no one misses anything along the way. All the pubs have a sightly different feel with live Irish traditional music to listen to at at least one of pubs. The food at the second pub was absolutely excellent and the view from the third overlooking the coastal village of Howth was amazing. The best part about this trip and the reason I would do it again and again is simply our host, Shane! He made everyone feel very welcome, encouraged questions, and made a conscious but appeared seamless effort to make sure everyone had an incredible time. He had tables already reserved for the tour group. In the first bar, he chose seating where people within the different groups were able to mingle with each other. At each bar, he would share his recommendations for local brews and spirits, including special pours, for example a lager with a "Guinness top". For the second bar, he made sure we got seating by the band and suggested traditional food to eat. By the time we left the third bar, he had us singing in the van the whole way home. My only complaint is that 5 hours (we did the 1p-6p tour) was not enough time and we will be back for the longer mountainside tour next time. Shane is the best and has us all laughing the whole time. I did this tour for a Hen Party 6 years ago and it was the highlight of our trip. I booked it again when my husband and I came back to visit with another couple and we were delighted to have Shane lead the tour again. Yet again, the highlight of our trip. Venturing outside of city center Dublin is the greatest way to see true Irish pubs. There's no music, no TVs, a man with a dog (usually) and all the friendly locals to chat with about Ireland, etc. Shane is so knowledgeable and friendly, he makes sure to work on your time table so you can be as leisurely as you wish. He also is a wealth of local and historical knowledge. I can't recommend this tour and Shane enough. read more

Wow! What a wonderful tour! Shane, our tour guide was incredibly funny and sweet. He really made the tour an amazing adventure. The first stop -- The Blue Light Bar -- was great. There are 4 main areas in this bar. First, the courtyard out-door area which we couldn't enjoy due to the fact that it had rained and everything was wet. Then there was the bar in the back [small room with limited seating space], and on the side building there were two rooms, with more seating and a space for a band/live music. We loved this pub, it felt like we were sitting in a cave drinking beer. Just minutes up the road was our second stop: The Merry Ploughboy. This was by far, the best of them all. There was a show going on upstairs and we were let in on it thanks to our tour guide. We were able to see part of the show and even participated! I was called up on stage and won a t-shirt! Luckily I was already pretty tipsy, which meant I had more courage. We didn't want to leave this place, it was awesome. The last pub we went to was Johnnie Fox's. By this time we were plastered. We had a lot of fun here too. I recommend you take time to explore this pub if you can still see straight. After a night of singing & dancing, we merrily make the short journey back to Dublin city centre to arrive at midnight. Shane even dropped us off near a kabob place he recommended to get a meal at. I was so drunk [or "tipsy"], I ate an entire plate of food in the blink of an eye. Talk about the munchies! If you're looking for a pub tour, this is the one! You won't regret it!!!! Rural Pub Tours has to be one of the best tours I have ever gone on. My boyfriend, sister, friend and I all signed up for the Rural Nights Pub Tour which takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting at 3 PM. The tour cost 49 euros and promised a 9 hour tour which would stop at 6 different country pubs outside Ireland. Drinks and dinner was not included in this price. Although it seems kind of pricey for drinks not to be included- it was well worth it for the sights and experiences outside Dublin We were picked up in the City Center- the tour was easy to locate with the signage on the van. Our first destination was The Blue Light Bar which was about 30 minutes away. The tour guide kept us entertained with history, facts and Irish songs- and of course the beautiful rural views. The Blue Light Bar was one of my favorites, as we got to drink outside. Our next stop was just ten minutes away at Johnnie Fox's. We then visited one more pub on our way to the Glenmalure Lodge where we had dinner. The menu was all local, the pricing was fair, the food was delicious, and the staff was friendly. We hit two more pubs on our way home, the last of which had a live band. We arrived back in Dublin just after midnight. Our tour guide, Shane, was wonderful. He was beyond friendly and made everyone comfortable.Our tour group consisted of 11 people including us, and by the end of the night we were all friends. The bus was nice, but make sure to bring a jacket as it got cold at night. This tour comes with my highest recommendations, and was one of my favorite things we did in Dublin. read more

Our Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Pub Tour was the highlight of our time in Dublin. Our tour guide was Shane, and he does a phenomenal job of getting everyone pumped up for the tour! My husband and I opted for the 8-hour tour that goes from 3-11pm, and we highly recommend this. It's very obvious that Shane is a total professional, and he really has worked so hard to develop strong relationships with his lineup of amazing rural pubs. We also loved that you get dinner on this tour. Shane took all of our dinner orders at the pub we were at prior to the pub where we would be eating, so when we arrived there, the food was literally served almost immediately! The food was delicious, and the staff was so flexible and gracious with our rowdy group. While my husband and I were excited to drink Guinness, we also appreciated learning about and tasting the local craft beers and ciders. We tried so many tasty new things! I truly feel that there's something for everyone on this tour. The final location had great live music and by the time we arrived there, everyone on the tour had become good friends! Some of us even decided to stick together and go out to Temple Bar for more partying after the tour was over. Everyone had so much fun with our tour guide, Shane. We loved singing along to his traditional Irish music selections, and at the end of the night he even let each couple pick one song for the ride home! This was an absolutely amazing experience. The tour guide was non stop entertainment and information the whole way and is the sixth star on this five star review. We stopped at some amazing pubs and got the inside scoop on each stop along the way. From a cog in a smuggling operation that had kids and pub owners alike operating as lookouts to "the highest pub in Ireland", each destination has a little story to go with it. The locals at the pub are friendly and easy to talk to. The beer, cider, and whiskey go down easy in good company. By the time we were back in Dublin, the whole van was chatting and singing like old friends. 10/10 would recommend to any adult visiting Dublin that has an interest in pub culture. read more

We sang and drank with the locals on this tour. Our wonderful guide, Shane, taught us a little history and a few popular pub songs as he drove us from pub to pub. He was so entertaining and I could tell he really enjoyed sharing his favorite spots outside of Dublin city. It's definitely the best way to get a taste of Ireland and best of all you don't have to do any driving. We got picked up right in the middle of city across from the Molly Malone statue where about 15 of us ready revelers set off for a bit of craic (pronounced "crack"). Good times. In the middle of jaunt through the Wicklow mountains we stopped in to have one of the tastiest dinner we had in Ireland. The dinner was an extra charge but it was a great deal. I had locally hunted venison, veggies, and potatoes all for about €10. This whole tour was a great deal. 9 hours of local flavor, local color, and local tales. The Rural Pub Tour is a definite must do. It's great if you're only in Ireland for a short time. You get a taste of the rest of the Emerald Isle. It's also a great way to kick off a long road trip. Awesome pub tour, exceeded our expectations! We were looking for a fun pub tour, something a little different during our vacation to Ireland, and settled on Rural Pub Tours. Our tour guide, Shane, took us around to three different pubs outside of the Dublin area. You get a great feel for what the local pub culture outside of the city is like on this tour (& get fairly toasted in the process!) Shane is really great! Extremely friendly, very knowledgeable about pub culture in Ireland, as well as the beer culture & business in Dublin. He instantly made us feel welcome and at home. I was particularly impressed with his ability to remember everyone's name in our group! He also offers his services as a concierge of sorts, should you need advice on where to go or what to do. We visited 3 different pubs that evening, each with a slightly different atmosphere. Some of the other reviews do a better job of explaining these in detail, so you can read those if you want. I would say go experience it for yourself! A little adventure in life is good. Who wants a movie ruined for them before they get to go see it? We got to spend several hours drinking with some good folks from Sweden, Norway and Germany. Learned some interesting new drinking toasts, and had a great time! If you are booking a trip, make sure you eat a meal before you go. Also make sure you bring cash, as not every bar takes plastic. If you're on the fence about booking, don't think and just do it! The Dublin Mountain Pub Tour with Shane was AWESOME! Man, we had an absolute blast. The pubs we visited were really cool. Quite diverse. The other guests were a lot of fun. We had such a great time together. And Shane was a total dream of a tour guide. He was just too fun and funny. What a gift this guy has with people. Book this trip!! Shane was an absolute class act and the Rural Pub Tour was a fantastic way to end my trip in Dublin! I showed up for a Sunday tour only to realize I fat fingered the date of reservation for a day in December (silly me). Luckily, Shane was able to accommodate me and I was able to tag along. I was traveling along and was able to have a great time with other travelers from all over the world! I was a little hesitant doing this by myself but I have no regrets. This tour lasted from about 1pm to 6pm, stopping at 3 rural pubs and did not disappoint. Johnny Foxes was a huge hit and just by chance all pubs took credit cards. I booked this tour back in May for myself and my family while we were on vacation in Ireland and it was by far the best night of our week! Shane is AWESOME and takes you to pubs up in the rural area of Dublin that we would have never known about otherwise. We were able to meet some other great people on our tour as well as some locals who were so welcoming and happy to have us in their pubs. 100% recommend this tour- I was nervous about how long the tour was but the time flies and everyone I brought had an amazing time! I really enjoyed this tour. The meeting location was great(for us) by Trinity College. We went to a variety of rural pubs and drove through the beautiful hilly countryside with baby lambs everywhere. I really liked visiting the countryside since our trip was originally only to Dublin for the week (we ended up stranded due to the volcano ash shutting down airspace) The meal options at the restaurant we stopped at were surprisingly very tasty, filling, and offered at a reasonable price. Shane offered to take photos for us and recommended a really great beer to my husband called Smithwicks. The prices at the pubs we visited were much more reasonable than in town and we had a good group of people on our tour which added to the experience. There was one pub owned by an elderly man that looks like it hasn't changed in YEARS. Shane jumped behind the bar to help him which we found amusing We were dropped off at our hotel at the end which was very helpful. read more
