But over the last few months I have seen a real downturn in the friendliness of the staff since a change kf management happened. Today my kids were with me, and they were trying out all the chairs and exploring. This is normal. Twice a week, and some of the staff even know the kids by name. Today, a staff member there came over and told me "Are these your girls?" To which I responded "Yes" to which he then said "I'm not watching your damn kids." This was the last straw. I'm done. And i will be driving 5 more minutes up the road to Lowe's.

The business is locally owned and operated and the store is neat, clean and organized. Shelves are generally well stocked and employees are super friendly and helpful. Product quality is very good and the prices are very reasonable. This freestanding store has its own private parking lot which is clean and free of debris. The large lot surround three sides of the building and is more than adequate for the business. The store is located on the corner of Market Avenue NE and Sunnyside Street SW in Hartville. There are two access points from Sunnyside Street so getting in our out of the property is easy and convenient. I moved away from this area many years ago but when I come back I appreciate being able to find so many of the local products I love at Sommers Discount Market.

When you first pull in, you're greeted by the huge marketplace sign, and right on the corner is the garden center--complete with the famous Bigfoot that everyone seems to stop and pose with. I was surprised to learn that vendors can rent a 10x10 outdoor space for just $22 a day. The catch is you reserve the same day each week for four weeks in advance, since the flea market is only open four days a week. $27.00 under the pavilion but there's a waiting list. Before we started shopping, we stopped at Sarah's Grill for lunch. Their burgers were delicious--fresh tomato, crisp lettuce, sweet onion... definitely worth the stop! Then came my favorite find of the day... strawberries! They were advertised at $5 a flat. When I picked one up, I noticed a few moldy berries underneath. The vendor immediately smiled and offered them to me for $4 a flat instead. Sold! I brought home two flats, which worked out to about 16 quarts of strawberries. Of course, I couldn't leave without grabbing a bag of fresh kettle corn--that's become one of my favorite flea market traditions! Like any flea market, there was a little bit of everything--the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some booths looked freshly stocked, while others looked like they hadn't changed in weeks. But that's part of the adventure. You never know what treasure you'll stumble across. When we got home, I immediately flash-froze most of the strawberries, and the rest became homemade freezer jam. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning--good food, great bargains, and a freezer full of summer to enjoy later. Have you ever been to the Hartville Marketplace? At Home doesn't seem to run many discounts or sales even though the prices are decent. The prices are between those of Kohls and those of Marshall's/TJMaxx. The store atmosphere is clean and the restrooms are well maintained & modern. The parking lot is spacious with plenty of spots to park larger vehicles. However, I can't say workers usually ask if you need assistance or have any questions while shopping.

Our checker Carly had briefly excused herself and taken off at top speed having grabbed a bag left behind by the the last shopper. She chased the customer down in the dark parking lot! I got to see it because I had taken the opportunity to go to get the car. I called David immediately from the parking lot and said "Get a picture of our checker!" (I had tried to snap a shot of her in the parking lot giving the customer the forgotten bag, but Carly had delivered it and returned to her register before I could get focused.) She heard me. "Did I do something wrong?" (She asked.) David assured her, "No, my wife wants to make sure everyone gets to know how thoughtful you are." It's people like Carly who make this such a great place.
