While I do live closer to a Farm and Fleet, I decided to check this location out for a backpack sprayer. The parking lot was decent sized for the building. I thought this building would be closer in size to the Farm and Fleet but it is a little smaller. The layout inside is a little confusing and I did have some issues finding where the item was. No one was around to help me. It looks like the store offers coffee and popcorn but I did not try that. Reminds me of the golden ages where I would get free popcorn shopping with my parents at a lot of locations growing up. Eventually, I did find what I needed. The items at the store aren't as well stocked and there are not a huge variety of things but it's good for the average person. Overall, I am sure to return back here especially if I don't want to deal with the traffic closer to Farm and Fleet. read more

Rural King....where should I begin. You are kind of like Farm Fleet or Fleet Farm, and very unique. Fleet Farm and Farm Fleet were once hardcore Country/Farm supply stores....a General Store on steroids. Now it seems that they moved more towards a suburban clientele. Rural King is more hardcore country. Where else can you go into a store and they have their mascot rooster running loose in the aisles. The rooster is tame and was hand fed and raised. Children and adults flock (pun intended) to visit this mascot. If you need feed, tires for the tractor, tools, batteries, bridles and saddles, they have it and more! They have an extensive sporting goods selection, as well as clothing for the outdoors. Around Easter, this is the place to pick up chicks , they have many baby chicks for sale. A true rural store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We were looking at lawn furniture today and Michele took the time to pull down merchandise down from the rafters and check incoming future stock for a special order. Overall the store is fine. Good prices and selections. The problem is their firearms dept. I waited 20 minutes while 2 people were doing paper work and one guy was helping a customer. The customer walked away and I was still waiting to be helped. I even let the salesperson know i needed help. I figured he was still finishing up with the last customer until another salesperson asked him if he was busy and he replied no what do you need. I left and went down to RKA gun gallery. read more

Supersized version of an old country store that has everything, from fresh popcorn to clothes to powertools to kitchen towels to live chickens. We bought a couple of small plastic pots for 53 cents each, marked down and a multi-pack of gardening gloves along with a pair of work overalls and some rubber boots. Everything we city folks needed to do some gardening at the farm and all at a reasonable price. The service was fine, and its way more satisfying to patronize this place than Walmart. read more

I ordered 65 Sylvania light bulbs for me and some other people online for our animals to be picked up in store. First, I had issues with their web sight. I should have stopped there. But then, after I finally got my order in, it took me 10 days and multiple calls to finally receive my order. Finally I was able to pick them up. I asked the girl if all my bulbs were there and she told me yes and I said "I am going to trust you on this" since I had not seen the bulbs, did not know how large they were, etc. the box I received was quite large and I trusted that the store would have checked to make sure the order was completed, since the receipt with a picture and skew was listed for every lightbulb. Over 5 pages of paper. I got home and got one bulb out but didn't notice until a couple of days later that I was shorted for half my order. I am so far beyond done at this point. I had already driven out to Plano (45 minutes) from my house each way twice. (And I still to this very day have not received an email confirmation that my order is ready for pickup in store, I had to wait to be called by the only helpful associate who I will not name.) She had the decency to call me when my order was ready, everyone else told me I would get an email. So now I had to drive 90 more minutes to get the rest of these bulbs because rural king does not know what it is doing, nor does 90% of its staff apparently. Finally got the rest of my bulbs after talking on the phone with the store multiple times being told conflicting info that my bulbs have been ordered but then the manager said no there was no record of that so the only thing they could do is give me a partial refund. Then I went to take a box of bulbs out of the big box, and one is broken. It's not even worth it at this point. I received no compensation and barely an apology for my waisted gas, time, and effort simply because the associates (in store or in distribution) did not know what the crap they were doing. The only manager I talked to was a male and he was very rude, sounded like he was trying to accuse me of being a liar over the phone. No dude, I just wanted the rest of my order!!!!! Absolute hands down worst customer service I have experienced anywhere ever in my whole life. I will never give rural king my money or time again. read more

Point blank, I am a fan. I discovered RK approx 9 months ago because my fiance lives only 20 minutes from plano. If you are unfamiliar with RK, think Farm & Fleet & Menard's rolled into one with heavy emphasis on "rural." You come into the store & they have popcorn & coffee for free- as much as you want. While this is not a big deal for me, kids love the popcorn & my mom was thrilled to shop with coffee in hand. Then, there is a bowl of free dog treats for your k9. Why? Because you can bring your k9s with you! Score! So, my beagle, Norman, now shops with us 75% of the time. His favorite things, besides treats, are baby chicks. He visits them every time we shop. I like their gun & ammo area, albeit small; it is staffed with personable & informative people. The gun counter also has decent sales. They have not wussed out like W-mart; RK sells ammo. I am a vegetarian & I do not/will not hunt. In fact, in an apocalypse, you better watch out because my dogs will need food & I will not kill an animal, so.... Anyway, even though I do not hunt, I appreciate having a gun counter close by for self-defense needs. I appreciate being able to purchase ammo at a reasonable price. Staff has always been helpful & professional. Not once have the male employees said anything off-color to me about a woman buying ammo, viewing weapons, or asking basic gun questions. So, no PC drama at RK. We end up discussing various self-defense topics. The other staff I have encountered are always friendly & helpful, too. I would love for RK to expand & carry more items as there is a need in our area. RK is a bit higher on many prices than, say, W-mart. Most of their clothes are of greater quality but the prices reflect such, so if you want cheaper clothing, RK does not offer such. Their household, personal care, food, & kitchen items are pricier, too. I understand their prices are higher because they are a smaller private chain; therefore, I am not complaining, just informing. I have their CC to save a percentage, so that is a benefit. Their clearance sales are often good! We purchased a few t-shirts for 1.00 to $3.00 each, jeans & shorts for $9.00 to $10.00. I bought dog treats for a fraction of the org price & purchased some red, white & blue artsy-fartsy home decor to use at Leland American Legion events. Their seasonal home decor often goes on clearance at very low prices. I highly recommend shopping here. You have to at least check out what they offer & take your dog into see the chicks (feather, not human). I joke that I plan to sign up my fiance for a p.t. job at RK so we can secure an additional percentage off of ammo & handguns. So, if you see a hippie-looking biker guy at the gun counter this holiday, tell him I need more ammo! read more

Store is pretty clean, animal friendly. employees are helpful when asked.. not super friendly so you hate to ask. Checkout is kind of clustered. Bought a lawnmower that were used four times last year and has a carburetor problem. Went to ask about the warranty and found out you have to drop off your mower and leave it for 3 to 4 weeks before they can look at it. That's most of the summer with no mower and it's brand new! You can't schedule an appointment so I won't buy any big ticket items there ever again read more

Rural king Is a great place to shop. They have shotguns, ammo, clays, chicks, rabbits, pet stuff, lawn stuff, etc. why somebody would rate this store low is beyond me. They have a popcorn machine and a keurig coffee machine up front when you walk in. You can get free coffee and popcorn. How many other places do that? None that do both. Plus you can bring your trained, leashed dog in with you and they get a free treat. Employees here are super friendly. Only thing is if you buy clearance food stuff it may be expired so just check dates if that's a concern. read more

Bad experience after bad experience. Brought my kids in to see chicks and rabbits, dead chicks in bins, Bought a drill here, had a question waited forever for a manager. Bought floor mats here, was told to park car and someone would be out to assist (they keep them chained) 15 min later I went back in to find out when person was coming. Ordered more floor mats online. Called the online help desk first. They said i would be able to pick up in 2 - 24 hours. Ordered them on Friday received email Monday evening ready for pick up... apparently weekends don't count?? I had such high hopes for this place. I purchased 4 stools online without any issues or so I thought. 13days from that I was notified that they are backordered even though online you can still purchase them currently. After back and forth emails and even ordering a different color, both orders were canceled. But during all this, the customer service had no clue what they have or quantity of anything in their warehouse. How can you not see with inventory systems these days. I had also let her know that online it still shows available and they may want to change that. Apparently they have to change each item individually online. I have never heard of such a messed up business inventory. The lady seemed like she could care less to help me either. Very disheartening to say the least. I also tried putting a review on their site to give people a heads up about their issue and I received an email that they weren't posting it and I thought I made it very professional so that wasn't the issue. So any bad reviews they can easily make sure not to have on their site which seems very shady.i shortened what I went through with them because this would have been a book if not.
