Ah, Rural King. I've passed this so many times, on my way somewhere else. Dropped in today with a diverse list, and found some of the things I needed. There is a lot here, but it is a bit odd. What can we compare this to? The farmer's Target? A small Fleet Farm? A smaller Menard's? A supersized Tractor Supply? My friend calls it TSC meets Odd Lots, and that comes pretty close. Do you need supplies to raise chickens? Check here. Camo rollaboards? They're here. Did you ever dream of Mossy Oak salsa? It's here. (I know it might not sound appetizing, but if you know what Mossy Oak is you probably have no problem eating branded salsa.) They actually have a big snack section, with bulk candy, potato chips, etc. Even some oddball pops, including a root beer I've never seen (and I have had a lot of root beers.) Boots, hardware, pet food, gardening stuff, serious yard equipment- they have it. I left with some storage tubs and some candy, but in summer I could have gotten some yard stuff. You'll see lots of trucks in the parking lot, and the occasional boat. There's country playing, of course. Service is very good. Prices are about average. I think I'd rather just go to Meijer, Menard's, and a garden center, but if you think of this as the intersection of those three it might be a useful place for you.

Not the cleanest store, but certainly cheaper than Menards. Also, we love the Christian music and the Carhartt selection.

This is a relatively new property in Marion. I think it has only been open 2-3 months. After…read moreturning off the main drag, there is a traffic light that marks the entrance to the parking lot, but it (the traffic light) has not been activated yet. There is not even a large sign that lets the public know that this hotel exists. I am quite impressed with this place. It is a three-story hotel with all the basic amenities of home; hence, the name..."My PlaceHotel". It has an adequate lobby that has sturdy seating (some sofas and low chairs as well as a couple of bistro sets) and a large tv. The check-in area reminded me more of a curved bar than a hotel desk reception area. Next to it is the convenience store/pantry, which offers a nice variety of items, from foods, pharmaceuticals, and even housewares. At check-in, I wondered why this store sold pots, pans and other kitchen items. My room amenities would later answer this question for me. Once we went into the room, we were greeted by a FULL-SIZE refrigerator & microwave, coffee maker, spacious cabinets and a small sink, complete with cloth towels, paper towels and liquid dish soap. All these things were in the kitchen area. WHAT?!?! For hanging clothes storage, there is a nice-sized closet that houses a full-size ironing board, iron, hangers and a large clothes basket. While the bathroom was not overly spacious, it had an adequate size and contained my personal favorite- Neutragena brand toiletries. The size of our room with 2 queen-size beds was a bit more spacious than the typical hotel room. There was actually ample space to walk between the end of the bed and the desk that is against the wall. In terms of space, It really seems like this room is wheelchair accessible even though it is on the 2nd floor. I hope the other rooms in the hotel have similar dimensions and spaciousness. For recreation, there is a covered picnic area with two charcoal grills, a few tables and numerous chairs. Since the hotel is pet-friendly, there are about four stations around the grounds that supply bags for you to clean up after your beloved pet. Let me repeat... I just cannot stress just how impressed I am with this property. It offers just about all the amenities of home including a friendly and helpful staff. I believe we have found the place that we will stay on our repeated trips to Marion.

The grounds and building are spotless. The staff was nice and helpful. I'll definitely be looking for more of these in my travels. Only thing missing was the recliner it said that was in my room. Didn't need it.... Just haven't sat in one in years Book this property if you need a room. It's a bargain!!!

I could tell that they were working hard to satisfy the patrons, supply our needs and keep the place clean & disinfected. Though, there were a few questionable things that made me lower the stars for this place. First, The decoration and decor were outdated. Though, I am more concerned with cleanliness and decent services than decor and decoration. So, the uninspiring decor was not a huge hit against them. However, the elevator was broken and supposedly, according to the front desk staffer, it happened immediately before we arrived. I found that claim hard to believe once I looked at the elevator and its surroundings. It appeared to have been broken for much longer. Thank goodness we were only on the 3rd floor. Secondly, even though our king suite was laid out nicely with French doors between the bedroom and living area, the entire room smelled of old cigarette smoke. It was not super strong or overwhelming, but there was a slight stench of smoke. Thank goodness the smell was not strong enough for us to demand a different room. Thirdly, the bathroom floor in our room seemed not to have been mopped in its entirety. While the area that could be seen easily (around the toilet, in the tub, in front of the shower) was somewhat clean, the area under the sink (where no one would really need to look) had a couple drops of dried reddish-brown substance. I thought, "well, they quickly mopped only where people walk and stand in this bathroom. No need to fight to get a mop under that sink." Finally, we had to wait a long time to check in and to check out. I don't know if they were understaffed or under scheduled. The pandemic negatively has affected the hotel business, so long wait times could just be par for the course of travel, at least for the foreseeable future. Though, even with these things, I would choose this place again versus the other lodging options in Marion.
