I honestly have never heard of this place until today. We passed several on our road trip and looked it up and decided to try it out. The restaurant didn't have some items I saw on the website displayed in their menu which was disappointing. Thankfully I decided to ask about it and they said they could totally do it. We're a large family so it was a lot of food but they got the order correct and it came out fairly quickly. The Spicy Jack grilled chicken sandwich with fries and the blueberry lemon shake. My family also tried a few different burgers, pretty sure all the shake flavors, chicken strips and the classic chicken sandwich. Everything tasted really good. Prices are comparable to other restaurants that are similar. We would definitely stop again. read more

When it comes to fast food there is not a ton of variety. Burgers,chicken, Mexican, sandwiches or occasionally fish or hot dogs. Runza has a totally different and unique thing. A runza is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, cabbage, onions, and seasonings. I had to try their mushroom swiss runza. The bread is so soft and yeasty. The filling is delicious and the cabbage is mostly in the background giving some crunch. I don't know how to describe the seasoning. It's so delicious and fresh. It's a mostly Nebraska thing. They also have burgers and they are also great. Nothing really unique but just fresh and done well. They offer crinkle fries and onion rings together as Frings or separately. Get the Frings. You can get an onion dip with them that's also unique. Overall if you see a Runza give it shot. It's not only unique it delicious. read more

Service was great in that we were greeted by a friendly counterman who provided an excellent description of a "Runza" sandwich (for us southerners who hadn't heard of them). And he told us of the additional choices that are not posted on the overhead menu board. The Runza is kind of like a small Stromboli, but German style with ground beef and cabbage instead of italian sausage and marinara sauce. They have multiple variations of the sandwich - I hope to try some variations if we run across another Runza in our travels. read more

This is my second visit to a Runza and I've fallen in love with this delicious blend of meat, spice, cabbage, and yummy bread. This location was clean and tended by a friendly staff just like the other one visited last summer. I could eat these things all the time! read more

They need to let us do half stars because this is is def a 3.5. This is our first trip in and we would come back to this or any other in the franchise. The kids behind the counter were very nice and helpful for us first timers. The place itself was pretty clean and lots of people in at lunch time on a Sunday. I like the simplicity of the menu. It means that they've picked their niche and want to excel there. It also makes service very fast. I love the concept of their sandwiches which is kind of a stuffed sandwich bun. The meat was very well seasoned and the cheese was nice and melty. They also offer "frings"which is have fries, half rings for your side. Also hot fresh and tasty. What really took away a the stars here was the amount of salt they used. Holy cow it's our whole week's worth of RDA! Really detracted from the experience for us. We came all the way from Utah just to try Runza and went 3 times in 24 hours! Best fish sandwich ever! It had the perfect balance of crispy, crunchy, cheesy, and flavorful. Great service and amazing food. Frings are a must. The ambiance was warm, it made me feel at home. Shake was perfectly creamy and thick, which was nothing like the hotel orange juice. I had a mushroom and Swiss Runza. The bread became soggier than any Runza I've eaten in the past. The flavor of the meat was really delicious. Crinkle fries and onions rings were really good, nice and crispy. I'm a ranch girl too, and this ranch is one of my favorites. Dining room is clean, behind the counter was very clean, everything was well stocked and organized. Our cashier was new and obviously was his first shift on his own. He handled himself well and apologized. Everyone starts somewhere. Nice guy. The exterior looks run down, which is unfortunate because the food is rather tasty! read more

I usually go to this Runza location once a month. I went through the drive-through today and to my surprise, my debit card declined and I did not have another card on me at that time. The employee at the drive-through had already given me my drink, so I tried to give him my drink back and told him that I was gonna stop at my bank, figure out the issue and come back with cash. He told me not to worry about it and that he would get my order. I did not get his name but I wish I would have because I was mortified and he was absolutely awesome to me! I had high hopes for this restaurant. I went to high school in Nebraska and recall those delicious runzas served at times in the school lunches. Lots of grease and salt here. I should have tried the runza without cheese. The bread was good, but the runza itself was ok. My family had a burger and corn dog bites. Again, the food was ok, but nothing special. Same with the onion rings and fries side ("frings"). The onion rings tasted like they were pulled out of a freezer and the crinkle-cut fries were salty mush. The coffee mini shake was pretty good. We also had a cinnamon roll, and it was doughy/undercooked. I like the menu variety, but think Runzas are just like McDonalds...hit or miss on food quality. This is located right by the Fairfield Inn where we stayed so we walked over for dinner. We'd never had a runza before but really enjoyed them. We also liked the fact you can have "frings", a combination of fries & onion rings. Service was great. read more

"Whatza Runza?" I will tell you, it's not only food it's a way of life. Growing up in Nebraska Runza is the epitome of family and lifestyle in food form. Sidney Runza is a bit outdated in decor but the atmosphere created in this small building is worth every cent plus more paid for the amazing food. For once I went somewhere to eat that the employees were actually happy to be there and obviously loved what they were doing. The owner Jeff happened to be working this day and was amazing with answering any questions about the history of and what a Runza is. To me a "Runza" is the feeling you get when you wake up and feel like you're on top of the world and love floods my heart. I remember my friend Adam worked here in HS yet I never ate here. Adam is the sh*t for real. Could only imagine how much better this place would be if he were still there. Jeff Hubcap I think is his name even recommended the local golf course even after stating we weren't golfers but bless his heart. Here is to you Jeff Hubcap. Runza is terrible. There is nothing for vegetarians except for their "salads" which you have to request without meat. Even McDonalds has better salads. Runza's salads are made entirely of iceberg lettuce and 2 tomatoes and you get 3 choices of dressing. Terrible ice tea as well and the bathrooms were gross. Any fast food restaurant would have been better to go to. The wraps and stuffed sandwiches look like they would give you the runz. read more

I look forward to having a runza when I'm in their territory. This particular establishment stuck out because it was almost closing time and they were just about completed cleaning when we arrived. We immediately said we would leave when we saw they were almost totally cleaned and closed and the two young men insisted without an attitude but actually very friendly we stay order and it was no problem for them to take and make our order. This was especially appreciated after a long day on the road traveling and little culinary offerings in this particular town. read more

After our bad experience at the Perkins at this highway interchange we decided to gamble on an unknown.... "Runza" ???? Who knew, apparently there are 60 Runzas scattered through the midwest, featuring their take on the runza.... a German spiced meat/cabbage mixture baked in a bun. They also offered standard burgers and fries. The food was just OK. I don't know what was wrong with this highway interchange... everyone we interacted with was just dead in the eyes, like automatons. We were glad to get back on the road. read more

What has two thumbs and has discovered he does not like wet loose hamburger on a soggy bun-like bread? This guy. Fries were pretty good. Crinkle cut, nicely done. Place was pretty clean, tho I admit I did not visit the bathroom, Sounds like Miranda H. gave those a frowny face. The dining area, and kitchen area seemed pretty bright and clean, those familiar with me or my reviews know clean is super important to me. The unfortunate truth here is that the place is themed for the Runza sammich. Their version of it is reeeeeally poorly done. Wet, soggy, I think I gained about 18 pounds of greasy fat eating it. It's a staple of fast food in Nebraska. I've lived in the state and traveled through numerous times, but I still don't get the fascination with this place. What's a Runza anyway? The food is decent but it's a fast food place. The reason I give this two stars is because my order came out with everything turned upside down. So I have fries and chicken strips poured all over the bottom of the bag. So as I'm driving and trying to eat I have to stop and fix the situation. Stopped by on the way to Utah. Never ate at one of these places so I figured I would try it. Wife and I ordered two runzas with Frings. The Onion rings tasted like frozen corn meal and the fries were mushy with a ton of salt. When I came to the Runzas the bread was nice and soft but that also caused it to become mushy too and ended up being a greasy mess. I tried the wife's BBQ one and I had the philly style one. Neither one had the flavor that was advertised. This seems to be partly due to the over greasiness of the runzas in general. Don't think I'll stop at another one after this one suckered my $17. read more

Different locations provide different product. This location basically sucks. Way overly salty. A teaspoon of salt doesn't mean five tablespoons. Contents in the actual Runza is measured in a teaspoon. Other locations give a couple more teaspoons of meager filling. Guess their scale here needs adjustments? Overall, big fail. Great Nebraska tradition! #1 with rings every time

5 of us went to Runza yesterday. The food was great but the staff was wonderful especially Brandy and John. We will be coming back.

Had been traveling to Omaha Nebraska from Layton Utah since 9 am. Decided to stop and eat at this Runza because we love Runza in Omaha. Ordered chicken strips, cheese Runza, and coffee. When ordered the coffee was told there was only one size and they needed to make some. I said that was okay. After retrieving my food to go, I was presented the coffee. It was smaller than 12 ounces, probably 6 or 8. Ridiculous, was in a hurry and I know that can't be the only size possible. Felt like they just didn't want to make a new batch because it was terrible. Chicken strips were tough as if they had been sitting for hours and barely reheated. Very disappointed. The sign said they close at 10 and it was about 630 pm. Don't know why such poor effort was put into a quality chain at such a early time of the night regardless. Acted like they were closing for the night. Only gave this 2 stars because the cashier was pleasant. Would've given 1 star. read more

I had my first Runza experience last week. The food was awesome, I had never had something quite like that (loved the frings!!) but what happened afterwards was even more amazing. When we stopped for lunch at Runza in Nebraska we were on a 2,000 mile trip from Illinois to Seattle, Washington. Somewhere in the middle of Wyoming I realized I had left my wallet in Nebraska at Runza. I frantically called the restaurant and the manager assured me that she would personally make sure it was over-nighted to me since I had to fly home in two days and needed my ID. The manager, Kerri continued to communicate with me through calls and texts, taking time out of her busy life and going out of her way to help me. I received my wallet that still contained over $100 in it and was over joyed. I just wanted to give a shout out to Kerri and her Runza! It is so good to know that there are always people willing to help in a time of need! read more
