Some prices were excellent, while other a bit steep- overall, it seemed to balance out in the end.

Car wash is the best "Fast" car wash in Bismarck! First…read moreoff, I was really disappointed to see the hand drying go away with the new wash. HOWEVER, you kept the most important part of any car wash. Simonson's has a HUMAN spraying bug/tar remover on the vehicle, then uses a pressure washer to COMPLETELY PRE-WASH the entire car before it enters the automated car wash. The extra time to pre-wash each car takes only 45 seconds, and is 100% the reason I dropped my membership at Tommy's. The pre-wash by a real person means all the removable dust, dirt and bugs are washed away and don't get stuck in the rotating mops and scratch the hell out of the poor soul's car next in line. A simple rinse won't do, you need a brain and eyes and a pressure washer to clean all bugs and loose dirt from the vehicle. I loved the convenience of Tommy's carwash, but now my car is covered with micro-scratches all over from the dirty mops. You can't get away from all scratches in a "touch style" carwash, but having a pre wash attendant is how to do it, and what makes Simonson's carwash truly the next best to doing it in my driveway (which I can't do in winter!) The extra 45 seconds is well worth it. My cars paint thanks you!! The first set of rotating mops in the wash always look bright and obviously clean, not dark and full of dirt like the aforementioned competition. Only thing missing is a floor mat cleaning station and vacuums. Tommy's has that advantage. But I prefer saving my cars 3-stage paint! Thank you Simonson's, I know it's hard to pay an attendant to pre-wash, but it is 75% the reason my monthly subscription is yours and justifies the expense of your washes.

Staff were great when we went in, celebrating even our steal of a deal finds with us. The theme, while adorable, didn't make up for the shortage of unique inventory. One of the downsides to an extended stay in Minnesota is the need to plan liquor store visits: you…read morecan't buy beer or wine elsewhere, and you can't buy it on Sundays. An even bigger downside is when the liquor store's best beer on offer is New Belgium Ranger IPA. Not that there's anything wrong with the Ranger. But that doesn't leave much thrill for the hunt.... So while we survived a steady diet of the Ranger and various low-end, mass-produced California wines (I mean, you can drink almost anything if you're lounging in the sun and have a lake to jump into, right?!), my man and I still needed nightly fortification for our drive back and our nights in hotels. Pulling into Bismarck after two weeks of scarcity, I was thrilled to find Captain Jack's and their relative plethora of selection. Many of my favorite familiar microbreweries (along with lesser-known, more local Midwestern ones) were represented, from six-packs to cases to liters to a wall-full of single bottles. My four-pack of Flying Dog Double Dog Imperial IPA was an excellent choice, and although being without a wine key limited me to screwcaps, nevertheless snagged that old standby, Big House Red. If I ever make the drive again, I'm remembering that Captain Jack's is the place to stop, and stock up!
