Very commercial, tasting descriptions sounded canned, and the wine tasted like the stuff one could buy at the grocery store. Some people had groupons, and the person working there called out what they got with it, which only made the people without it feel cheated. Finally, they herded you through like cattle. Fine visit to Running Hare. Did as others suggested and got the Groupon. I probably didn't pick the best day to go as it was 97 out and the tasting room is outside. Overall it's a nice enough venue for meeting friends with a picnic and bottle of wine. And the white wines I tasted were fine (the Chard and Pinot Grigio esp.) I may just prefer NoVa vineyards over a larger place making wine with grapes from several other locations. And I never like waiting in physical lines, which we had to do to start our tasting. After going down a pave road, to a dirt road, to another paved road we finally got to the pavilion area. Parked, walked up and found out that you HAVE to pay a cover charge just to walk in. I refused as I do not drink and was only there to provide transportation for my wife. She wanted to sample and purchase some wine. After she paid the cover charge and went inside she informed me that the music was not good and it was very crowded. She felt it was very tight for such a large place and did not purchase anything due to a number of reasons, but the main reason; RUDE workers. If you don't want to interact with people, fine, get a different job. I'm 99% sure we will not be returning. read more

I absolutely love this place! I've experienced both the outside picnic area and the indoor tasting room. Came with a group of girl friends both times and we used the Groupon. Such an excellent deal. The location was beautiful. Super easy to get to from Annapolis, but I found the staff slightly pretentious and not super helpful when it came to understanding the wines other than telling us that x wines were imported (the chardonnay was one), and y wines were grown on the property. The wines were okay but nothing spectacular that left a WOW impression on me. That being said, I'd probably go back bring a little bit more food and pop open a bottle because nothing can beat having a great location, some good music and decent enough wine on a summer afternoon. read more

We drove out from DC for a friends birthday -- they were having a Groupon tasting deal, which was two wine tastings and a bottle of wine for $20. It was a great deal, and on top of that, you can bring your own picnic and sit out at one of their many outdoor tables. They had live music the day we went, so it made for a great atmosphere for our group! Wine is decent for the area, but the staff are great, and it's a fun, cheap day outing option within shooting distance from DC. We will definitely be back! read more

I LOVE Running Hare Vineyards. I do, I really do and after my most recent hour long trip to the vineyard this past weekend with the boyfriend and pup, I love it so much I need to write a more thorough review about it. I have followed Running Hare at multiple wine festivals and am a big lover of their reds. Boyfriend thought it would be a nice treat to take me to the vineyard that makes the wine I oh so love. It is no secret that Virginia has a plethora of vineyards but for Maryland and even considering the vineyards I have visited in Virginia, Running Hare Vineyards has a special place in my heart for many reasons: Enter the grounds and drive quite a ways past chicken coop, duck ponds, house with barrels, it seems like quite a distance but the empathetic signs "keep going" "almost there" are entertaining and your patience (as a displaced New Yorker I have none) is handsomely rewarded. Plenty of Parking and port-o-potties in case nature calls Grapes are meticulously grown and/or imported on grounds and you are allowed to Walk through the vineyards BEAUTIFUL Villa sits atop a hill looking over said vineyards. You can rent out the Villa for weddings, dinners, etc. They also hold tastings here in the winter Wine tastings run $5 and you get to a beautiful RH tasting glass to keep. Staff is wonderful! Michelle headed our tasting and was so nice, engaging, and knowledgable as she led our tasting of 9 Running Hare's award winning wines. We sampled: Chardonnay (crisp citrus and pear/slight oak), Pinot Grigio (smooth citrus great for summertime sipping), Sangiovese (made with the chianti grape with notes of cranberry, black cherry, cocoa and vanilla), Malbec, Shiraz (pepper, spice, plum), Jack Rabbit White (cayuga and niagara grapes make this sweet white great for sangria), Jack Rabbit Red (concord grapes give it a sweet and smooth tastes like jam), Riesling (their newest creation, loved this riesling made in the German style and not overly sweet), Chambourcin (tawny port made with sugar instead of brandy for higher alcohol %). I think the quality of their wines is outstanding and RH is sure to have something for everyone. Personally, I enjoyed a lot of their wines and especially love their reds! (if you like bold, oaky, smokey red wines like I do, this is your place) Took home bottles of Malbec, Sangiovese, Shiraz. You can order online so no fear if you drink them all! *cough cough* hi online ordering! The outside tasting room is adorable, there is plenty of tables and chairs and umbrellas for everyone to lounge, sip some fine wine, and enjoy everything the vineyard has to offer. There are Live bands on weekends, date nights, game nights, karaoke, bring your own picnic! Fun for everyone! (kids, dogs- just make sure they behave...everyone kept coming up to say hi to Charlie and commented on how well behaved he was) Note: They are growing hops and hope to start brewing beer. I was a virgin to the vineyard experience. My husband and I visited here to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary, which is the fruit and flower gift anniversary. It was a great value. I purchased a Groupon and I got the beer and wine tastings and two wine glasses. We even purchased pizza from the on-site vendor. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Great atmosphere! The indoor space has high ceilings, a magnificent chandelier, and a view of the vineyard. We went to the valentines day event, and had a good time. The food was simple, but tasty. We all enjoyed the cabbage salad and the gourmet Mac& cheese very much. The sliders were not very good. The chocolate covered strawberries were delightful. We preferred the red wines over the white. Sangiovese was a favorite at our table. The music was pretty good, with a mix that kept most age groups happy most of the time. Lots of people were dancing which makes it easy and fun to get out on the floor. It is a bit out of the way for us, and the road in winter is not easy to navigate. I wouldn't recommend driving it to anyone in a lowered vehicle or rear wheel drive. We will be back for an event this Summer I am sure. read more

I visited the winery because I had bought a Groupon for wine tasting. The vineyard is gorgeous. The wines are great. They have wood fire pizza made by a third party vendor on site. The pizza was the perfect treat with the wine. You can also bring your own food. This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Just note that the winery closes at 6pm so go early! read more

I like that they import grapes from California, Washington, Italy and Chile and then produce the wine on the property. If you want to make Chardonnays and Sangioveses you can not do it properly with Maryland grapes. I applaud the winemaker for knowing that. And I really enjoyed their Sangiovese. They do make some wine with local grapes. However, they were too sweet for me. Second, the outdoor property is nice. I went in February and there were people hanging out with picnics inside. I think we'll come back with a picnic when it warms up. The inside was a little banquet hall for me. In general the wines were pretty good and the prices were reasonable. Although their VIP club seemed like a rip off since it had a membership fee. If it was free I would consider joining. read more

Beautiful Venue, Friendly Staff and Great Wine My sister and I enjoyed a Groupon they were offering for a sampling and a bottle of wine. The wine was great and we each bought some additional bottles to take home. We were there during the colder months so we enjoy our sampling inside the ballroom. It was a large beautiful room and would make for a great place for a wedding. They had a local artist come in and play some music too, which was a nice touch. We were able to bring in our own food (olives and cheese), so we could really relax and enjoy. Apparently there is a beer garden and an outdoor area that opens in the summer. I'm looking forward to returning to check that out once the weather breaks. read more

We were first time visitors and will definitely be back! Our first experience was outstanding. We did the tasting of about 10 wines and Erica took great care of us and was very sweet. She was knowledgeable about all the wines and what to pair them with and was patient with us as we asked questions and made the whole experience fun. I've been here many times. As others have said its a lovely piece of property and the live music is great. But, I have given it two stars for 2 reasons. They have instituted a $10 pp cover charge. It does include a tasting but I've tasted their wines many times so I wasn't really interested in that. I have visited hundreds of wineries and this is the first time I've seen a cover charge. Second, the bottle of pinot grigio we bought to drink on site had 3 little rock like objects in the bottom of the bottle. We did complain but all we got was an explanation of why this was normal. My husband and I visited Running Hare Vineyard on Mother's Day. This was a mistake. The place was crowded well beyond its capacity. We asked to be directed toward handicapped parking, but were sent in a wrong direction. We ended up parking on the lawn, too far and difficult for me to push my walker. The lines for food and wine tasting were huge. There was hardly any place to sit, even if you brought your own chairs. I wasn't impressed by the wine samples, but the bar tender was very kind. Seeing my broken leg, he brought a chair for me to sit during wine tasting. The live music was good, but hard to hear over the crowd noise. Unfortunately, instead of relaxing and enjoyable, our visit turned out chaotic and disappointing. read more

This was my first Maryland Vineyard I went to. We went in the fall and it was still pretty packed. It's a great deal. For 8 bucks you get to taste a bunch of wines and 4 different beers but the wine side is very poorly ran. You have to stand in lines to join tastings but no one tells you that. The wait is long and lots of people just jump ahead not knowing there is a line. They need a better supply of food as well. View wasn't great. I wouldn't go back. read more

We found this vineyard in Groupon then traveled from Gaithersburg (about 1.25 hours each way) to check it out. When we got there, the greeting at the gate was less then friendly due to the fact that we had purchased the Groupon on the same day. The woman (assumed to be the owner) went on about having to share her profits with Groupon, etc. because people will get in line, hear that others had a Groupon then hurry and buy one with their phone. We hadn't done that, in fact, we were the only people in line. After a huffy explanation from the owner, some rebuff from me, she accepted the Groupon but then just stood there stonily staring at us. So I asked, where do we go from here as it was clear she wasn't going to give us any direction for the tasting. They gave us red armbands, as opposed to the green ones everyone else had. My boyfriend thought they might pop out with a "G" Groupon cattle brand for our foreheads. We made our way up to the bar for the tasting and the first thing the bartender asked is if we bought our Groupon on the same day, starting the Groupon narrative all over again. When I pushed back saying we had already been through this, she said they (employees) are required to ask (again). We later saw the owner stalking through the crowd, frowny faced. She didn't stop and talk to people, she didn't smile, she didn't make people feel welcome. Small business owners should understand how important that is. The venue was nice but what really saved the day was the fellow playing the music. He was absolutely wonderful. The owner had her eye on the short dollar, not considering the value that we might be back, we might bring friends, we might go back to our places of work and tell lots of people what a great place this is. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do that for them. We bought a $28 bottle of wine, spent time listening to music then left feeling un-welcomed for a long ride home. read more

Beautiful vineyard just a short distances from home. I thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting, and purchased my favorite Jack Rabbit Red. One of the best red wines I've tasted. Visited the vineyard on a Saturday afternoon with a wonderful group of friends. Too bad the sour attitude of one of the bar personnel marred the beginning. It was our first (and unfortunately likely our last) visit, and one lady went to the bar to determine the routine to start the wine tasting. A young lady snapped and stated, "if I have to keep talking to you, I won't get things set up..." Wow, as if this she was a toddler. Not our issue if the tasting starts @ 12, and the servers are setting up @ 12. A few more trips to the bar by others proved this girl's attituded just sucked. The server was excellent. I only wished I got both of their names. Live music was excellent. Luckily there's more than one vineyard in MD. read more
