If you love Detroit (or just great local finds), put this everything-Detroit boutique at the very…read moretop of your list. It's one of those shops that perfectly captures the spirit of the city while still feeling welcoming, creative, and genuinely community-focused. The location in Midtown is super convenient, with easy street parking nearby -- always a bonus in the city. And if you have time, definitely pop next door to Nest, which they also own. It has the same thoughtful vibe and is absolutely worth browsing plant-centric items. This is my go-to spot for gifts, although I'll admit some items mysteriously end up staying with me. The selection is fantastic: unique Detroit-themed T-shirts, beautiful jewelry, coasters, drinkware, cutting boards, locally made soaps, baby gifts, and so much more. Everything has a Michigan connection, and a lot of the pieces come from local artists and makers, which makes shopping here feel even more meaningful. What really sets this place apart, though, is the people behind it. The staff are genuinely kind, knowledgeable, and clearly invested in their community. You can tell they care about supporting local artists, small businesses, and the neighborhood as a whole -- and that makes supporting them feel good too. If you want authentic Detroit gifts, thoughtful local products, and a shopping experience that feels personal rather than corporate, this spot absolutely delivers. I always look forward to coming back.

Level A - the first floor was closed, and we could only walk around Level 1, with limited access to view the cars from above. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots to bring friends when they visited Detroit. Seeing everything from vintage GM models to upcoming vehicles all in one place always felt iconic. Knowing this was likely one of the last visits before major demolition begins made it feel even more emotional. We'll truly miss this space as we've known it. The change, while disappointing at first, makes sense. The two office towers closest to the river, along with the connecting podium, are slated for demolition. The original 1970s-era design simply no longer fits modern work needs, especially with the shift toward remote and hybrid work. While it's sad to see this space go, the future plans, opening up the riverfront and creating a Navy Pier-style park and entertainment area, give hope that something even better is coming.

Envisioned by Henry Ford II as a "city within a city" to counteract the decline of Detroit in the 1960s, it was designed by architect John Portman who is also responsible for the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco and the New York Marriott Marquis, among others. Phase one was completed in 1977 with additional towers added in 1981 for a total of seven! Sadly, General Motors decided to relocate its headquarters elsewhere and much of the office space is vacant. But that doesn't make it any less interesting and the GM display in the lowest level is darned awesome. [Review 682 of 2025 - 390 in Michigan - 24243 overall]

We didn't have to look far, as Rozwell was lying on a display table right near the entrance! He is so cute and sniffed our hands and got a few pets. I didn't bug him too much as he seemed content to just nap. We learned that he is 20(!!!) years old and there is another shop cat that we didn't see. Moving on, this store is super cool. They have tons of interesting things including lots of crystals, clothing, accessories, gifts, jewelry, and more. The shop also has their production facility in the back. I wonder if they do tours! They are known for using actual manhole covers in Detroit to make prints on clothing, which I think is really cool and would make a great souvenir for any Detroit lover. I had a blast looking around at everything and loved some of the vintage prints on shirts, as well as what I assume are original designs. This is a great shop for finding a gift for the coolest person in your life, or for you, because you are cool. We bought a bag of Kitty Town coffee to take home and I'm excited to come back the next time I'm in town.

During my visit, I get to understand that this is two separate Mall entities connected to a sky bridge. One side of the mall is purely upscale high-end stores and the other end of the mall is upscale stores with medium end stores. This mall was absolutely packed too to the rim! I really enjoyed the diversity of the stores here and in fact this is the first mall where it's 100% occupied. They don't even have small shops in the middle of the mall as well like most malls do. The food selection is actually pretty good too! This mall is really clean and I'm Amazed by how well the bathrooms are as well. Coming here on a weekend is really tough to find parking! Overall, I really enjoyed my visit here this mall is more of a 4.5 star experience but I will say it is one of the best malls I've been to in recent memory.

Went here today on a high school field trip. I walked in with my group, five girls and another…read moregroup who also had a chaperone of about six boys. All 9th grade kids. The kids were excited. They were trying on the sombreros, looking at the dresses, searapes and other various items. Were they loud? 100%. Were they being goofy? 100%. Were they rude, disrespectful or out of control? No. not at all. Never once did anyone from the store greet us, or say one word to us for that matter. After about 10 minutes a woman approached me, who I later found out was the owner, and told me that our time was up and we needed to leave "now". Obviously I was taken aback. She told me that the kids were being obnoxious and they picked up a pricing gun and were playing with it. I asked her if she had spoken to them. She had not. I asked if she talked to them upon arrival telling them to be careful and she said " I shouldn't have to". Now if this was my store, and I saw a school group coming in I might want to stop them at the door and remind them of my expectations on how to behave, what not to touch. perhaps I might only allow so many kids in at a time, etc. But this woman literally said nothing to us. She met us with a cold stare, ready to find fault. She said, these kids obviously have no intention to buy anything so they need to go "now" Which is strange because I didn't realize that's how stores worked. I thought we were allowed to browse whether or not we were purchasing. However, these kids did intend to buy but after her obnoxious behavior they ran out the door. She quickly followed them and as she got into her car she yelled at them "BYE AND NEVER COME BACK". The employee who was left in the store was super kind and explained to me that the woman was the owner and she gets very upset with school groups. Which Is wild to me because I can't imagine many people are coming down on a random Wednesday afternoon buying overpriced items that can be purchased elsewhere for much less. I'm planning a quinceanera for my daughter in September and we were looking for items to buy but I'm glad to know how this owner operates and we will no longer be visiting the store. Her actions were unreasonable, unprofessional and downright rude. So, no worries, store owner lady. We will definitely "never come back" and we will make sure all our friends know to do the same. * Was brought to my attention after the store owner left that in fact a small item had been broken. Which I paid for without question. Because that's how things work. Conversations are helpful (when they actually happen) and people respond well to reason and kindness

I was getting cabin fever sitting around the house over Thanksgiving, so I decided to hit up…read moreWindsor to see what I could do with myself. I checked and Devonshire Malls right over the border here, about 3 miles or so. I checked the directory and it had a decent selection of things to check out, so off I went. The parking lot here's atrocious, and really needs an overhaul. Small parking spaces, uneven pavement, potholes and a general mish mash of messiness. NOT a great first impression. It's not the fanciest mall and seems rather dated on the outside. Could use a facelift big time. BUT, walking in it was a totally different story! The inside was great. Very up to date and let me tell you, the bathrooms here are NICE! LOTS of stalls, very cool with a beautiful sink setup with lots of mirrors and room to move around. I will say, the mall was bigger than I'd expected. It's laid out a little different and seems to "fork off" a bit. They have a Roots store here, which I used to love as a kid, but I think has since closed in Birmingham. It was all the rage when I was growing up! They had a cute kitchen store that was going out of business but I didn't buy anything there at all. They had a Hudson's Bay store, but I didn't really like anything there either. The food court here was super cool, large and had a great selection of food to choose from. I secretly wanted to try the Mandarin place but was holding out since I had other plans for lunch. They also had some super nice Christmas decorations up along with a "meet santa" area as well. It was so cute! Overall, it was a decent experience to get some steps in, see what's happening here and get out of the house!
