I didn't really know what to start as I was unsure about the styles and sizes. I grabbed a few leggings thinking I would just figure it out on my own. When I asked for a fitting room, I mentioned to the employee it was my first experience and I would have questions. From that moment on she clung to me like my personal shopper. She was grabbing different leggings and sizes to help me find the perfect fit. She was honest about the material, wear and tear, and for that I am so grateful. I walked out of there with my first pair of leggings, less intimidation of the store, and knowledge about the sizes and styles. Thank you! (I think her name was Julianne). I hope my other experiences are as great as this one. As for the store, it is very quaint but also has a homey feel to it. If you are not from Newport, they offer a post card with their favorite places to eat, things to see and do. I thought that was a nice touch for this local shop.

Lots of the local athletic and health-focused shops and wellness services are offering special deals and classes this week to promote healthy and holistic lifestyles in the City by the Sea! Tonight, there was a yoga class in the store, plus a shopping event where class participants got discounts on the super cute workout clothes! Athleta is fairly new to the Long Wharf Mall, having opened this past fall. However, even though they may not have been here for all that long, they're really hitting their stride (no pun intended!) The clothes are comfortable and well made, and even though they are a bit pricy, the quality is excellent. I have a pair of workout leggings and a sweatshirt that's Athleta brand, and they are some of my fave gym-wear pieces I throw on time and time again. The ladies that work here are very nice and helpful! In some athletic shops, I've felt a little intimidated, but that's so not the vibe here! Shopping at Athleta is a delightful experience, from the friendly and professional staff to the clean, bright, and well organized store. The brick n' mortar shop only carries ladies' clothing and accessories, but Athleta's website has some stuff for the guys too! In addition to the excellent yoga class I tried tonight (Missy was an awesome instructor!), you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for future wellness events happening at the shop. This is a definite must-visit for some great workout gear in downtown Newport!

One of our first port calls was in Newport, so after touring some of the historic homes in the area, finding shoes was job #1. I was warned by locals that there weren't many shoe stores in town and those that were around were $$$$. That was certainly my initial experience when looking at the touristy Bowen's Wharf area. Fortunately, I found Sole Desire and their clearance rack. Nice selection of shoes from a variety of quality brands and bingo, I actually found the perfect replacement sandals at 50% off. The employees were lovely and grabbed multiple options for me to try on and I was on my way.
