If you are from RI, you have probably heard the jingle on tv or radio advertising Yorker Shoes. We decided to come here to get some slip-on shoes for my husband. We worked with Gary, who gave us a few options to consider. His expertise and assistance were key to pin point on a great pair of shoes for my husband. They had a promotion going on where for any regular priced shoe, you get a free T-shirt, so we got one. The experience was seamless and quick. Definitely a place that we would recommend. read more

I needed to replace my everyday shoes. I'm on my feet all day (on cement floors) so my foot doctor recommended going to Yorker and trying on some quality brands of running shoes. Joe was my sales person and he was so nice and patient. I ended up going with his suggestion of a Brooks running shoe. He sized my feet and got me the best size to fit them. I would definitely return here to buy shoes. The service is excellent, the place is clean and the product well displayed. The price was reasonable and I left with a pair of sneakers that actually fit! read more

I recently went into Yorkshire shoes this October 2025 and had the sales person Diane helping me out. I explained to Diane the issue I was having with my lower back legs and feet due to an injury. After trying several sneakers she found me the perfect fit which were the Brooks sneakers. Diane understood my needs and she fit me with the perfect sneaker that I aim able to use daily. I decided to return to the store two weeks later and ask for Diane again. She remembered me and I told her this time I needed an indoor outdoor slipper, that would work as well as my sneakers. Again she was able to accommodate my needs and I left the store with two pairs of slippers. The Olukai and Prophet are a perfect fit. I recommended this store to all my senior friends and how helpful you were to me. Thank you Diane for all your help and I certainly will be back! read more

Very attentive knowledgeable staff that helped me find a great shoe for the activities I wanted. Can't wait to go back for more!

I love coming here to buy my Brooks sneakers. That's all I buy. They're top-notch. Yorkers specialize in many other quality brands like Florsheim. What makes them stand apart is you get get service here and plenty of choices that are in stock. They have ample private parking and it's easy to get to right off rt 295. read more

These are the worst people!!!! My husband and i went here after my husband had his right leg amputated and a partial foot amputation on his left. We needed to find shoes for him. Obviously we needed some special help. We went there thinking they would help. The owner helped us as far as measuring him and talking about options. my husbands foot still had swelling so we did not buy anything that day. when we returned a few weeks later to purchase shoes, we asked for someone to measure him again as the swelling went down and more healing occurred. The salesman was called over to the side by the owner, came back over and refused to help us. He said there was nothing they could do for us. We didnt understand what happened, we had no idea why we were being treated so badly. We left and never went back and i make sure i tell everyone i know Never to go there. They were the worst. They treated my husband horrible. I will never support this business, ever!!! read more

Walked in on a busy Saturday. Didn't realize you had to put your name in to request help. once I realized this I walked up to counter to get a middle aged man who seemed annoyed and actually threw his pen down after I asked for an approximate wait time.... Ummm no ty i took my business elsewhere. I try to shop local but guess they are to good for my business. You can get same service online and no hassle . I wouldn't recommend them or return. read more

The selection of shoes were great. The staff were are very helpful. I am flat feet so I need a shoes that contour for my feet. And the staff has the knowledge for that. They were a great help. I would def go back. They have a great return and exchange policy. If you have issues with your feet and need shoes this place is where you should go. I definitely recommend it. read more

I have a lot of issues with my feet, so I was a little skeptical about going to Yorker, however once there , the person that helped me understood all my issues and was extremely helpful. I do not remember his name( maybe Roger or Gary) but he knows what he is selling and what shoes will benefit you the most. Fyi he also has a great sensei of humor. read more

As soon as I walked in the store, I was greeted by Joe. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with me. I went in the shoe store to purchase sneakers, and I left with a comfortable pair of sneakers. My old ones were not comfortable and hurt my toes. Joe also took the time to help me try on at least 4 different brands of casual shoes. I didn't have any luck with them, but he still took the time to help me. I'd recommend Yorker Shoes for service, and an abundance of sizes!! read more

I had an incredibly positive experience finding a new pair of shoes (actually two, in the end!) at Yorker Shoes. Joe helped me for a very long session of trying on many different shoes until we honed in on just the right ones. I have uniquely shaped feet with specific issues, and he was very patient and even enthusiastic to help me find something that would be a long-term healthy solution that also met my aesthetic preferences. They carry quality brands that are made to last, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable. They take the time to measure your foot and actually check how the shoe is fitting, as opposed to just trying to sell you something and send you on your way. I'm so glad to have found a shoe store with this level of knowledge, service and quality- I will definitely be returning the next time I need a new pair of shoes! read more

I was pleased to find that Yorker Shoes is open for business even with the pandemic. Thanks to our excellent salesperson, Mike, we were able to find two nice pairs of shoes for my mother who has hard to fit feet. Mike was both extremely knowledgeable and extremely patient! Thank you for the excellent service! I will return, and I would recommend Yorker Shoes to everyone. read more

I've gone here for years because they carry extra wide width shoes. I definitely don't go for the customer service. I've been treated VERY rudely by one of the sales staff and that same man was on the register on one occasion and kept talking about his shift finally being over and how he couldn't wait to get out of there. It's kind of like going to the Registry of Motor Vehicles. You know you have to go but you proceed with trepidation and just hope you get one of a couple of nice salespeople to wait on you. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR HIGH QUALITY SHOES. BETTER THAN BUYING ON THE INTERNET BECAUSE YOU CAN TRY THEM ON AND THEIR PRICES ARE VERY COMPETITIVE WITH INTERNET PRICES FOR SAME BRANDS. I have severe problems with Achilles Tendinosis and Plantar Fasciitis and footwear has been exacerbating the problem. Someone recommended Yorker Shoes. Dee was my salesperson and she was OUTSTANDING. Spent almost 45 minutes with me explaining the pros and cons of various shoes. She ran back and forth to the storage room a dozen times with me as I was trying on shoes. She was extremely patient and very knowledgeable. Everyone there was so pleasant. They had a huge selection of high quality shoes. I MAY NEVER SHOP ANYWHERE ELSE FOR SHOES!!! read more

Yorker Shoes - Most comfortable everyday shoes I've ever worn. Love my new Brooks! - Shoe Stores Near Me - Johnston, Rhode Island

A whole lot of shoes Yorker Shoes first started in 1949 and I believe there is only this one store. It's not a particular large place so the selection isn't as huge as some of the shocking monstrous shoes stores in other places. What Yorker seems to specialize in is hard to find shoes. Not weird styles or bizarre colors but hard to find sizes. I have big, wide, mutant feet and often have trouble finding shoes wide enough to fit. York has lots of wide and even super wide sizes and I even saw a pair of running shoes that were size 16 EEE. Now that's a big shoe. Again, the selection isn't all that huge and like almost all shoes stores it seems the women's section is a whole lot larger than the men's part. But there are plenty of well known brand and all kinds of running, hiking and dress shoes. Just might not have the particular type or color you want. The prices tend to be a bit high but there is a sales rack that people can pillage through. The guy assisting me was helpful without being pushy. Definitely not a store where I would buy all my shores but a useful place to check out on occasion. read more

This place is ok. I went in looking for Birkenstock sandals (all hail the 90s!). They had about 3 different styles in about 3 or 4 different colors. Nothing was what I was looking for. The worker was a little elusive, but he was helping a woman who seemed to be a kind of needy shopper, so I didn't mind. Plus, I liked the freedom to walk around. I did get the help I needed in good time, but I wasn't happy with the selection. FYI: I did end up at Nordstrom's(much to my chagrin) in the Providence Place Mall because, though their selection was small, it had a nice soft leather option. I found out afterwards that Journey's (also in the mall) also has a Birkenstock selection. I wished I had gone there because the workers are more down to earth. read more

I have a son with autism and it's difficult to find him shoes. We drove up 45 minutes to have a pair of sneakers fitted for him. First time in the store and waited in the store for help. My son could not wait any longer- and we walked out. Sad read more

Gary, the floor manager, helped us on Saturday March 11. The store was crowded that day, as they were having a clearance sale I think. Gary patiently took his time with us, answering our questions and offering helpful advice that comes from his many years experience. His advice made a big difference in the type and size of shoes I should be getting, having me try a different length, width, and toe-box style. After many years of wearing a certain size and style, the new ones he had me try was a big improvement in comfort and walk-ability (I have problems with my feet). Ended up getting 3 pairs of shoes. I am a repeat customer of Yorker Shoes. read more

I had a really good experience. After reading some of the negative reviews wasn't sure what my experience would be. There was plenty of help. Was greeted quickly and he was very helpful. Told him what I was looking for and the problems with my feet. He showed me several options and I narrowed it down to two. He measured my feet and brought out the size and styles I wanted. Made my choice. Felt no pressure, wasn't rushed. Spent less than an hour in the store. The shoes are very comfortable and the price was less than I expected. Very happy with my experience and will shop there again. read more

This is by far the most accommodating shoe team I have met. They are so nice and helpful in finding something just right for you. My bride and I regularly frequent Yorker Shoes. It is by far the best local shoe store in RI. We have always purchased quality shoes at reasonable prices. Quality shoes, good value, and personalized customer service. read more

This is just not the store for me. And it has nothing to do with their annoying commercial jingle. They have the most expensive shoes and the least stylish shoes that I have ever seen. We go there because Mike takes an extra wide and he doesn't have a lot of choices in shoe stores. But I have more choices and this is not one of them. The people are nice but I don't believe I have ever ever bought anything there. Their sale prices are sometimes more than I want to pay at full price for shoes. When we went the other day they had rubber flip-flops that were on sale at half price for $50. I would never pay $50 for rubber flip-flops and I don't know who bought them when they were $100. And the styles are just very old-fashioned looking to me and very dull. I suppose if you need a particular size or a particular fit in a shoe that they may have it but you would be very limited in the styles that you could choose from as a woman. read more

I've been a customer here for several years but after today I'll never shop here again. I was leaving my car to go into the store when an elderly woman in the parking asked if I could help her get her walker out of her trunk. I explained that I couldn't since I had a broken wrist & using a cane for a leg injury as well. She then asked if I could get an employee to help her. In the store. I asked salesman who was standing near the register alone & asked him if he could help. He looked annoyed & said that due to insurance regs he could not do that. I then asked him if he could at least tell the customer waiting outside & he walked away without saying a word. I was on my way to tell the woman what had transpired when the same woman was at the door being helped by another customer . read more

They have a great selection of supportive footwear that doesn't look like supportive footwear! Do you know how hard that is to find?! Yes, the prices are steep but it's worth it! If you need help the staff is more than willing to support, however you need to approach them for assistance. It makes me sad to see all of the terrible reviews on customer service. My husband been purchasing Brooks sneakers from this store for many years. We actually went today to purchase two more pairs of the same sneaker in the same size different colors. We seem to always have to wait to get help when we go in there. No one ever acknowledges you in the store and this has been going on since before covid. We found out today that we can buy them at Amazon and other stores for the same price. Where you don't have to drive and waste your time being ignore by unfriendly people. After spending over three hundred dollars on speciality sneakers. I'm not sure if these people work on commission but the person we purchased them from not very friendly. I believe we will be shopping online at or elsewhere! Mind you we didn't even need to try on the sneakers just buy them! A shoe store that's not a chain!!!! Holy Shit Batman! It's true. It exists and it's great. Way the frick out here in Johnston (Johnston- Birthplace and epicenter of Big Hair since 1980) It's a large, clean, orderly store with mens, womens, and childrens shoes. They are very helpful. They excel at fitting your elderly family members with comfortable supportive shoes. They have the most wide and odd size shoes I've ever seen. How many times have you seen triple-E shoes? The sale racks are full of great bargains. minus 1 point for the megabitch behind the counter and not having enough cross-trainers. Otherwise perfect. read more

My podiatrist recommend I visit Yorker Shoes. When I walked in, I was greeted by Greg. I told him about my problems finding shoes that fit and he listened and understood my concerns. He spent a lot of time with me showing me several brands that would fit. While Yorker shoes has a limited selection of "natural" shoes, they have a wide selection of most brands and every size. Greg was very professional and a big help to me. I would highly recommend him for getting you the proper fit. read more

Went on a Saturday and was amazed at how busy they were. Awesome customer service. I went in with an idea of what I wanted, they measured my feet, made suggestions and brought out several styles for me to consider. Even though the place was vusyling, it was as if I was the only customers in the place because she took her time with me, making sure I was happy with my selection. I was pleasantly surprised especially after some of the other reviews I read. I love the old fashioned feel of a real shoe store. I have gone into this store on three DIFFERENT occasions. Each time was the same customer service. The first time, was after a friend recommended this store for a "great selection" of wide width shoes. The sales lady did not even measure my foit, she just asked what size and what shoe I wanted to try on. The shoes she brought were not wide width and she acted like I was bothering her. The second time was to find flats for a wedding. Again, "what size and what shoe do you want to try on?" ( there were 3 people working and only one other customer in the place. ) I tried on sandals with elastic straps. The woman kept saying, "oh yes, those look great" like she was in a hurry to get rid of me. I said, no they don't look good, my feet look like a sausage. These are not wide width she said " oh, those don't come in wide width". (She could have said that to begin with. She then said I could measure my foot if I didn't know my size. I left again!!! The third time, again friends recommended this place. I went in knowing I wanted them to measure my feet. The guy came over, after I was sitting there waiting for about 10 minutes while he just stood at the register talking to another employee. I asked him to please measure my feet. He begrudgingly did so and then every shoe he brought in that size didn't fit (most were too wide in places.) So he said I might just need to accept some shoes might look like that and pick the best looking one. I left and won't ever go back. These times is enough. Went there to buy my granddaughters first walking shoes. Went on a Saturday. I guess that was our first mistake. Very busy. No one even attempted to help us or address us. Saw a sale rack of shoes so after waiting 1/2 hour or so chatting with another customer just started trying shoes on off the rack. Decided to buy a pair just to get something. Went to pay and stood behind a person where they had to do her transaction 3 times before it went through. The teenager drinking her water wanted to know who helped us. Ok, well nobody. I pay. She checks our shoes for size and says we have 2 different sizes. We go back to the rack, now someone helps us and is extremely rude about the sizes. We found they had been switched in the boxes. Ok won't be back. Terrible customer service. One star because they carried Stride Rite. read more

The lady complaining a long time customer won't go back because she couldn't assist the other elderly person in the parking lot because she herself had ailments to help her is blaming the guy working in the store at a cash register because he refused to leave his post to help people out of the car. Lady the guys got a job in the store to do. I think your expecting way to much. He can't be a health care facilitator all day for the parking lot. If you can't get into a store on your own you should have someone with you to help you. Not expect the public or worse someone trying to do his job. Get with it lady. read more
