Well, having spent £50 today, I've managed to walk away from Primark with a new coat, two pairs of…read morejeans, two bags, a pair of PJs, some shoes, a pack of three pairs of tights and a pack of hairbands. Where else could you possibly get this much for your money? I wouldn't say I was a 'fashionista' necessarily (well, not totally), but my tastes do change very frequently. So I begrudge forking out a fortune on designer and brand name clothing for something that I'm probably not going to be interested in wearing the following season. Primark suits me perfectly for this reason. Whilst this may go against the 'eco-friendly' side of my personality [who wishes that my tastes weren't quite so changeable and disposable], but it's true. What makes me feel a bit better about this is the fact that Primark now has a new 'ethical' code of conduct in the supply of their clothing. Anyway, I digress. There is currently no Primark store in Edinburgh, so I'll regularly make the trip to Dunfermline specifically for this purpose. It's a decent sized store - the ground level floor is taken up, for the most part by women's clothing and homewares (yes, you can pick up a duvet set on the cheap here too), whilst the lower floor is stocked with men's and children's clothing. If you're of average shoe size (around size 5 for women, as I am), then expect to struggle to buy shoesI've frequently found shoes that I like in the shop, only to pull every single pair off the shelves and find them in just tiny sizes (3 and 4) or in gigantic sizes (for women anyway), in size 7 or 8. They don't seem to purchase enough stock in the more 'regular' sizes. You can also pick up some excellent accessories in the form of jewellery or handbags for very very cheap. And I've even been complimented whilst wearing them. Of course, I'm no good at keeping schtum, and instead find myself blurting out oh, I got that for just £2 in Primark. I should maybe have just kept quiet about that. If you're looking for top quality clothing, then Primark really wouldn't be your first port of call. But if you're looking for decent clothing at a price that's very affordable, then Primark's definitely worth a look. Of course, the range of goods varies from season to season, so it's very hit and missbut keep an eye out and you can pick up some great bargains!

This is important to me as the exchange rate isn't in the USA favor so I would prefer to pay a sales price which equates to regular after the exchange--- ya dig? Anyhow I was informed sales differ store to store. This peeved me a bit as the jacket I had spied online for a good discount of 40% was still in the store for full price. Doesn't equate in my brain. That last word possible describes my age and non suitability for this shop. I used to be quite a 'Vans' kind a wearing cool dude, but somehow the current selection is not inspiring me. Shoes are a little too uncomfortable, the shirts a little wide and the boarder short a little too long. They are still a popular brand to be worn and observed in, and I do say that the girls and boys serving in the shop are particularly suited for this. - Too cool for skool I guess. I doubt Tony Hawk is their role model - more Bieber. Prices are reassuringly expensive, so when you are seen with a shirt or shoes, your mates will know what effort you (read: parents) went through to afford all that clubber. There were one or two items that piqued my interest, but it dropped very soon after reading the price tag. And really classic. Ahh....Doc Martens store in downtown Edinurgh, plus a sale. Done. The service was good here. It was very busy and full of tourists, but we managed to walk out with two new pairs of Docs. His & Hers. Not matching. He got some proper black ten-hole boots with peg laces at the top, while I got the eight-hole black canvas with flowers. Although we changed our mind a few times and tried on several pairs, they were patient and helpful, and made us feel right at home. One comment: they hand foreigners Value Added Tax paperwork that goes to an intermediary who takes a large cut of the VAT refund (67%!). I certainly see their right to do so, but it's better for tourists to just file their own claim and receive the full VAT.

The staff are friendly & highly knowledgeable and will tell you if you have your eye on the wrong kind of gear rather than just selling to you regardless. They have a lovely selection of stock and although pricey, I have never been disappointed with a purchase. Footworks also is a little hub for the Edinburgh running community with free brochures on running events nationwide & its own running club. A place well worth a visit if you are serious about your running.

I had a few minutes to take a look at what they have on display before someone offered to help me. I said I wanted walking shoes, we verified my size, and away he went. I found this kind of interesting - what about the price? I couldn't help but notice the fact that most of the running shoes were around the £100 mark though ranged down to more affordable prices. Are the clientele here the type to not look at price tags? And what about style? Ok I realise they're exercise shoes, but surely people have a style preference? The guy came back with a stack of boxes and took out the first pair for me to try. They were grey with pink detailing. I cringed that the pink but duitifully tried them on. I found them hard and uncomfortable and said this to the guy who responded "they're walking shoes, that's how they're supposed to be" - oh, but why? Why is it that apparently walking shoes are hard while running shoes have bounce to them? He went on to explain how arch support works. I know how arch support works and am going to assume that running shoes have arch support, so this doesn't actually explain to me why walking shoes are so hard. Anyway. Based on my feedback, he presented me with a pair of aqua and orange shoes. Seriously. I said they were way too flashy so he went to get a few more pairs. I was then given the option between silver and purple, and blue and red (or something). I said they were all far too colorful and was told "Well, that's all we have, sorry" at which point he turned around and immediately started helping someone else. Am I the only person to come in here looking for good shoes that don't blind passers by? Do they really only have ridiculously coloured walking shoes? Also - WHY was one of the guys working here wearing teeny tiny running short shorts?? Ok I get it, you're a runner. You know what you're talking about. Do you have fantastic legs? Absolutely. Do I want to be just about eye level with your barely covered arse when I'm trying on shoes? No. I dont. Far from my experience, everyone else in here was getting excellent service, getting a chance to properly try out the shoes on treadmills. From what Alison K has said, this is much more than just a shoe store. Unfortunately, for whatever reason (I can't help but wonder if my post-walk attire was why) I didn't receive this kind of service and what I experienced won't see me returning.
