Pets At Home

This pet shop has a lot to offer, not only do pets at home sell pets like rabbits, guinea pigs and…read morefish but they sell everything you need for your pet as well as offering grooming services which is great. I was surprised to also find a wildlife section offering wild bird food, bird feeders and suchlike all at an amazing price, so for that I give pets at home 5* and will definitely be returning soon.

I love all of the professionals who work in the Groom Room and the vets at Vets4Pets (especially Paihk). My Portuguese Water Dog, Mopsy, had Paihk as her first vet and we were both so lucky that she was our first! Knowledgeable, patient, sweet with Mopsy, informed, balanced, and skilled, we couldn't have asked for a better vet! When Mopsy swallowed chicken bones, Vets4Pets was there with us every step of the way including emergency appointments and I was very happy to be given all of my options and comforted to know that there were things we could do to help the bones ease out of her system while we watched (like Hawks) for signs of a puncture or internal bleeding. We were very lucky in the end that with lots and lots of soft veterinary food she passed the bones and a few days later avoided surgery entirely! (Phew) After that experience, though, I would have also trusted them to help me make informed and difficult decisions with regards to surgery as well. I would also say that I recommend Pet Plan insurance as they bill directly. Another time (as we moved back to the US), Paihk helped us navigate the forms needed to certify that the pet has had all their vaccinations for customs. It was sad to say goodbye to such wonderful vets and I miss Paihk and Sunny and the rest of the team to this day. I ALSO miss the Groom Room. They were amazing and I didn't even realize HOW amazing they are until now that I've had months of a very different experience in the United States. The groomers at this groom room are in a class all by themselves. They are so kind, so patient, so loving, so talented, so efficient - they honestly deserve all those accolades and more. Very reasonably priced for the hours of work they put in with fussy animals ALL THE WHILE MAKING THE PUPS FEEL COMFORTABLE and building their trust with each and every dog that comes in the door. Mopsy has a thick, high maintenance curly coat. It needs a cut every 4-6 weeks and she has dry skin which needs a moisturizing and soothing shampoo. She is also a young dog that is very high strung around electric machine noises (clippers), hates the hair dryer, hates the bath, etc. She is your classic pup grooming nightmare. She is sweet and won't bite you, but she moves something awful and will dodge every blessed comb, clipper, and shampoo bottle that comes anywhere near her. So that's the scene. Mopsy, this classic nightmare, comes into this groom room RUNNING directly into her groomer to LICK HER! (I think she is preemptively trying to make peace with the groomer and beg her to change her mind about her needing a haircut, lol, little does she know I'm the one that has ordered this hair job!) The point is, my anxious wreck of a dog trusted her groomer so much that she treated her as one of her own who perhaps needed a bit coaxing to change her mind about the clippers. Mopsy eagerly awaited all of the pampering and treats that these sessions included and, I believe, to some extent forgot that it was so bad while she was there. I do think Mopsy genuinely loved her groomers and while she would occasionally let a loud whiney bark fly, she did manage to accept that a bath and a groom was her fate from time to time. On top of all of this, the groom room saved her haircut details in their booking system (one day perhaps they will have an online availability calendar?), she always looked AMAZING following any of her appointments there, and she always looked safe while she was in there and never so anxious that I was concerned that it was anything other than nerves that was making her an anxious wreck in there. She grew to love them and I became a devoted customer of the Ft. Kinnaird Groom Room. I just wish I could transport them all to California where I live now and can not for the life of me find a compassionate groomer. I have to say, having my dog look amazing after each and every grooming session is no small feat as I myself have tried my hand at it: 50 pounds of squirming pup, howling and whining to high heaven while dodging shampoo and water, then drying out the coat while brushing gently, followed by a painstaking hour to two hours of clipping around tails, toes, snouts, etc all while keeping the dog on side so as to complete the job and offering bribes (treats) from time to time to distract and relax... No easy feat. I've attempted it a few times and it easily consumed 6-8 hours of a day for me; they accomplish this (with far superior skills) in 4 hours and it looks amazing. To say I'm a fan is an understatement. Their wait times to get an appointment reflect how good they are. Call (you may need to call a few times before they pick up the phone since they are so busy) to book an appointment and expect that your first appointment will be in 4-6 weeks time from when you call. This is how far in advance people book because they are so good!!!
