I understand where Stuart and Alice are coming from. The magic of seeing a bird in a cage when you're a kid is non existent when you're an adult - it's pretty grim. That being said, although witnessing animals boxed up in containers makes me feel uncomfortable, I didn't think the guineas and budgies in here looked malnourished. The rabbits, rodents and guineas all had a good bit of space to bounce about in, although they all seem to huddle together in one corner of the enclosure for heat which is quite cute. I think that rabbits should be kept in hutches even when in a pet store, so I wasn't too chuffed seeing them in a smaller space, but they attract a lot of interest from customers so hopefully they'll be bought soon. Then they can roam free, or at least with more space than that. The birds looked healthy but I'm a firm believer that our avian friends should be allowed to fly free in their own climate. They arguably don't take to domestication as well as cats or dogs, who are allowed out and frolic about the house. Some people let their budgies out and that makes it better, but I don't like the thought of birds in cages. But if people must, at least the birds in Dofo's looked comfortable, and their cages were clean. They had plenty of food and companions to stop them getting restless. What is seemingly being left unmentioned is the stock in Dofo's. This is a great outlet for food and toys for all kinds of animals. They also have an extensive range of equipment and bedding. Prices range depending on what you're looking for, but there's a whole room dedicated to animal necessities. I've always kept pets and struggle to find places like this in Glasgow. You end up resorting to using the supermarket, which is basic. If I stayed in Edinburgh I'd come here. This is a catnip emporium and the pet toys in here would drive my cats nuts. They also have enough rinds, bones and Markies to keep the Duchess that is my Yorkie happy. She's like the queen Mum these days and there's enough food in here to keep her pampered throughout her golden years.

We got her this morning, and she's perfect!

Today we picked up our new kitten from the store. The staff were all very helpful and cheerful, and made sure we had everything we needed to look after our new little friend. I couldn't recommend this place more!

I only discovered this place recently and decided to come in for a look at the dog toys. I actually didn't find the selection great at all, and I left empty handed and with heart palpitations as I was faced with an evil looking moggy. The cat was cutting about like it was his house and I wasn't down with that, at all. I'm not a cat person and I literally had a fit when it jumped in front of me, the wee baw. I think it knew I was terrified because it sat for a few minutes, licked its anus in front of my face, and slinked away behind the door to scare some other poor mug. The shop is sort of split into two, and in the 10 minutes I was there, not once did I actually see a human asking if I needed a hand, or indeed, making sure I wasn't a shoplifter. School boy error there guys. Plenty of pet stuff, staffing needs a rethink though, and get those damn cats out of there!

Our kitten, Hector (The Mouse Inspector). Purchased from Dofo's. Our new best friend.

The best. Great service. Happy, healthy animals. Great selection of products. Friendly staff. We got our cherished kitten, Hector, from Dofo's. He's easily the best friend we've ever found in a pet shop. We've enjoyed great support from them.

Fergus enjoys the welcome he gets here and loves the toys and treats and CATS (not so keen on him) on display!

Anyone who has gone to a new groomer will understand our nervousness. Lily, our 4 year old Toy…read morePoodle is not the perfect client. She is jittery and cries and makes you feel like a bad person for leaving her. Our last groomer left his position suddenly and Lily had only just got used to him after some years. Craig gave us a warm welcome and said she will be fine. So with heavy and anxious hearts we went straight to the nearby pub to wait the inevitable. Our mobile ready for that text saying it's not going well. But to our amazement, after the scheduled time and a few cocktails later Craig texted us saying she was done. When we were presented with Lily we couldn't believe that she was the same dog! She had settled down quickly, gave Craig an adoring side-eye and looked beautiful. Craig did a wonderful job and we were delighted with the result. I can't tell you how grateful we were. Craig has a unique understanding of dogs (we're thinking that he's a secret dog whisperer) and he's a lovely, lovely man. Did I mention that he's an artist? It goes without saying that we will commission a portrait of Lily. It usually takes Lily a long time, if ever to accept a new person in her life but sometime from when we left her and returned she decided that Craig was OK. We will be returning as regular customers as Craig did a terrific job on so many levels. Rochelle and David M.

I got a next day appointment with the explanation that there was no longer a six month waiting list since lots of his dogs had died. I enquired as to the £50.00 fee. "Hand stripping, nail clipping and ear cleaning". I asked him not to scalp the dog with the understanding that he shouldn't be left bare. My partner picked up the dog unaware of our conversation. Very little had been taken off and the nails hadn't been touched. "The nails probably didn't need done and you asked me not to scalp him, he's been nurtured so that's probably why the process wasn't so effective, if you want more work done, you'll have to pay me for my time" I was initially very chuffed to get appointment with such a well regarded groomer but have been left very disappointed and £50.00 out of pocket. My regular groomer is back from maternity next month, thank goodness.
