We visited the Red River with Run-A-Muck on a Saturday at 8:00 AM. We met at the rental place, got a safety speech and life vests, then took a (somewhat old but functional) bus to the launch point. Lots of shade, but we stayed on the water quite a while and ended up out in the heat and sun of midday. We did not all prepare for this and are paying for that. Overall, it was a lovely float with some areas with added challenge (rocks, submerged trees, shallows) to navigate. There are quite a few rocky shore areas where you can pull up the kayaks for a break or snack. Speaking of, we brought water, but failed to bring any food. It would have been nice to have something even though we planned to eat after. The exit from the river is a bit rough, but the young men helping were wonderful. We got 3 single kayaks, and 3 upgraded single kayaks. We definitely felt the upgrade was worth it for stability, more room for heavy people, adjustable footrests, and adjustable back rest. We had a great time and definitely intend to go back again. read more

First time using Run-A-Muck for a river trip and will be using them again. We did the Red River trip and our group of 5 rented two tandem kayaks and a single. The one tandem was older and the seat back was not in good shape which caused a bit of an issue on the back for the 7 mile trip. We were picked up at Port Royal State Park right on time. Once we did the paperwork we loaded up onto the van and off we went. It was a hot day and the van didn't have air conditioning but it wasn't too bad as long as we were moving. The workers were all very nice and helpful. The trip was really fun. The river was down a bit so we had a few spots were we had to walk the kayaks but for the most part it was a very nice trip. The river was not busy at all which was a surprise. The cost for the trip was very reasonable and I look forward to using them again. read more

Our favorite kayaking trip yet. These guys are the best! Affordable, quality kayaks, smiles all around. They transport you and the kayaks to the launch. A nice easy trip down the Red River. They say it takes about 3-5 hours depending on how many times you pull ashore for a break. I thought my arms would be smoked but the current really helps you along so we didn't stop. It took us a little over 3 hours from start to finish. Then the staff was waiting for everyone at the end to help us come in. Definitely 5 stars. Can't wait to do it again! read more

Excellent choice for taking a leisurely float/paddle down the river. My partner and I rented a canoe for $40 and our friend had a single kayak for $30. This includes transportation to the launch site. You can take as long as you like (as long as you're back before dusk). It was beautiful, and there were parts that were a tiny rapid-y, so there was a good mix of relaxation and exercise. Plenty of areas to pull off onshore for a snack break or whatever. It took us about 3 1/2 hours having pulled off twice (and flipping our canoe once). Super friendly and funny staff that were always available to answer questions. read more

Short version: The Run-A-Muck Outfitters team has some of the nicest people I have ever met and I can't thank them for all the things they did for me on this trip. Rentals are affordable and the river is gorgeous. Long version: During a recent trip I made a terrible decision and ended up with a broken ankle as a consequence of my own stupidity. I called the owners from the river, Jay and Hunter, and told them what I had done. They offered to call EMS for me but I knew I would be better off just making my way back on my own. Unfortunately, I was 3 miles away from the take out and had to paddle until the end. When I finally arrived, the Run-A-Muck team was waiting to help me out of the river and to make sure I was alright. I would've understood if they would have stopped helping at that moment, I was out of the river and none of their responsibility anymore. They not only picked me up out the river, kayak and all, because I couldn't stand, they put me in the back of a truck and took me to the local hospital. One of the guys road with me in the back to make sure I was doing okay ( I think his name was Aaron, but I was in so much pain I forgot, good guy though). Jay even made sure to slow down to avoid bumps on the way and called me later that night to check on me after being released from the ER. This business cares about their customers and I wish I could give them more stars. 100 wouldn't be enough. I highly recommend them because they're more than just a rental company, they're great people and you feel like part of the family when you are with them. Thanks you guys! read more

They were very patient with us, we're pregnant and had a bit of a delay to get there on scheduled time. Also our driver was very entertaining and I formative. They also have a nice selection of kayaks for sale. Not very knowledgeable myself, but I'd say with a bit of research I did, very durable and comfortable kayaks for sale. I'd definitely look forward to getting on board with them, and I'd definitely recommend them! read more

My husband and I used a Groupon to try this company out for a canoe trip. It seems like a relatively small, family-owned company, which was nice. They were very friendly and helpful. After I submitted a request for a time online, someone called back the next day to set me up. There were several rivers to choose from on their website, but the Groupon was only for Sycamore Creek, so obviously we did that one. Someone also called 2 days before our trip to remind us and give us driving directions, and they texted the morning of the trip to confirm. We met at a seemingly random spot on a farm, but it turned out to be perfect because we just walked down to the water - no need for transport. They carried the boat for us, with the obligatory life jackets (we didn't wear them). Sycamore Creek was a very pretty ride, although it was shallow in some areas and we did get stuck on the rocks a few times. Granted, we're not veteran canoe-ers - we've probably done 3 or 4 river trips - but it is a creek, so it's going to be somewhat shallow. That did make it easy to get out and stand in the water to cool down, though; the water was cool and very clear, which was nice. They picked us up near a big bridge and drove us back to the parking area. Very easy, relaxing, great service - definitely recommend, although if I did it again, I would choose a different route. They have a TON of options online - check the website. They also have kayaks and inner tubes, if you prefer to go tubing or kayaking. read more

Visiting Nashville for the first time, my husband, 9 year old son and 84 year old dad wanted a paddle on one of the beautiful rivers. My son also loves to fish and Run-A-Muck was the only paddle company I found that offered that. Well, our day finally arrived and it was absolutely amazing! Magical! Jay and Nathan took such great care of us. We thought we wanted canoes but they figured out the best situation for us were kayaks and boy are we grateful for that. The kayaks were in great shape, sturdy and comfortable and easy to paddle. Great for all of us novices! They picked a special place for us to start from as the other spots weren't as safe because of recent flooding, so I really appreciate their knowledge and care! These guys are the friendliest people and so easy to talk to on the phone and in person. And Nathan created an extraordinary experience for us on the river. We felt totally safe, he answered all our questions about the area and was just incredible with our son - patient, kind, caring, enthusiastic, encouraging, and a great teacher too! We all had a fantastic and memorable time and will absolutely go out with them again when we return to the area. We feel like we have new friends in these guys and are so grateful for the beautiful trip they created for us. read more
