Color with highlights and lowlights/trim with long layers I went in the day before and that day I was having a lot of pain and was in a wheelchair and it took the stylist over an hour to mix just the color and she seemed so confused like she had no idea what she was doing so I told them that we had at Shanahan's that would leave me no time to get ready for her to still do my hair so she offered to come back down and curl my hair and make it look nice for us to go out and she said she was going to run up and get her stuff come back and curl my hair and then she just disappeared and she came back down and I was like oh you don't want me to curl your hair. I'm like I don't have time we need to leave. Find out the next time we go in that she told people that I was only down there for a little bit and wasn't happy with the Colour or something and just told her I didn't wanna do it anymore, which is a lie because it took them an hour to cut my husband's hair. He was just finishing coming down to get me and she was just coming down with a color so I made an appointment with Julie who's supposed to be a master stylist which I guess anymore doesn't mean anything. She was so incredibly rude to me. I asked her three times are you sure you're comfortable doing my hair because I don't want anybody who's angry with me or has bad feelings about me touching my hair and you don't seem to like me very much and she kept saying no that's not it. No, that's not it. She called me a liar about the thing that happened The day before with the other girl. I'm like no it did. I can tell you the times but I got here and the times that she came down and she's like well. Let's just move on. I was trying to explain to her the colors that I wanted my hair and she kept telling me that I had to pick one just pick one I'm like I don't want one. I want Auburn in there like on the top and I want to feed into a copper and I want blonde highlights. I know it can be done. I've had it my whole life instead the top of my hair is completely bleached. It look like a skunk and I don't think I've ever been more unhappy with a cut. I came home. I cut my own bangs. I told her that showed her the cut that I wanted. She didn't do that at all. Then when she asked if she could curl my hair, she didn't ask how I curl my hair so she put these tiny tight curls in my hair. I don't wear my hair like that and she got upset that I put my hair in a ponytail. Well to me it look like garbage that's not how I wear my hair, I wore my hair into the salon curly to show them how curly my hair is how much like weight my curl has and that if it has to touch my nose wet, it'll touch my eyebrows dry, but there is no communication between her and I at all and then she still sold me product that I don't think I needed. I used number four and I think that's perfectly fine but she doesn't seem to think so. I would appreciate a call from the owner or someone because I think all in all I was treated very poorly. Oh and their prices.. you should be going to a master stylist Downtown! 365 cut+ color total BS when Rumors ran it I usually paid 180 for the same thing and didn't look like I had rad paint all over my neck and forehead my ears were covered. All it takes is a little bit of baby oil and a cotton ball and it comes right off not to mention she ruined a $200 shirt by being messy and not paying attention to what she was doing and it's because she was so aggravated with me for whatever reason I still don't get it. I've been to this salon a few times and all been wonderful. Friendly and professional. Prices are reasonable.

The ONLY thing that prevents me from giving 5+ stars was the food, which is not their fault. My daughter and I had a few bites but couldn't eat the food. Again, they have the food brought in, so not their fault. When having a spa day, I would recommend bringing food or getting something delivered. My daughter celebrated her sixteenth birthday with a wonderful so package. She received the most wonderful facial, pedicure and a perfect massage. The massage therapist, Samantha was beyond amazing. The tea they offered was delicious. Every staff member was so kind and accommodating. The Aveda products used during the services were exceptional. Rumors is a hidden gem in Brighton. read more

I really wanted this spa to be amazing - it looked so cozy and nice in the pics. I was hoping I could find a place close to home rather than driving 30+min to a good nail /hair place all the time. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I booked a pedicure for my husband and I - we were the last clients for the day. The two women doing our pedis were very nice (one was shy and one was more talkative) - my husband likes to relax and I like to chat so that worked really well. I won't divulge names because they may be amazing at hair, etc but pedis are not their forte and that's all we had done. The pedicure "bench" (it looks like a little loveseat in pics) was a straight back and my husband is a bigger guy so he couldn't have the pillows or it pushed him too far forward. So he sat with his back straight up on a wood wall - he was a good sport about it, but it's worth mentioning if someone has a bigger than average body type. The basin was a simple basin (no jets/bubbles)- which would be fine except the edge they hold your feet on while working on them is like a countertop edge that feels terribly uncomfortable- they need a thicker towel or some sort of cushion to put feet on at the edge of the basin. We get pedicures frequently and these pedicures were seriously lacking - took 10min to get my previous polish off (I noticed there was still some left that she painted over in the end), callous removal was minimal and there was no paraffin. The most surprising was that there was absolutely NO massage - they put a scrub on that they lightly rubbed on feet and lower legs, then rinsed. The towels were simply laid on top rather than wrapped around the leg. Finally, the paint...I don't think she had much experience with painting as she kept putting it on in little strokes and quickly, and going back over them so it bubbled up and looks terrible. We paid $140 for pedicures that I will now have to get fixed elsewhere. My husband was super irritated and I left feeling incredibly frustrated that I had just wasted a lot of money. read more

The salon is pretty And has good ventilation but my hair cut (from a master stylist) is something from a horror movie. Lol my husband And I have been laughing about it being the worst haircut ever. I'm hoping it grows quickly but dang what a waste of $$$. The shampoo service was not good. 1 star for the service I received but 4 stars for the salon its self. Settled on 3 stars maybe I just had a bad experience. I have to change my review to two stars because several people have commented to me "what happened to your hair" it's seriously that bad. Very disappointed in this place. Called for an appointment for a cut and color. I did not insist on a time or day and let the person tell me when they could get me in. First, the appointment started about 20 minutes late. After putting dye in my hair, I was told to go sit in another chair as she had someone else to work on. At other salons, I'm used to the stylist starting a timer to know when it was time to rinse. Not with this stylist. I noted when I was sent to the other chair and it was well over an hour before she came to rinse me out. Of course by then the color was over done and instead of the color I was expecting my hair looks black. If you don't want new clients then just say that. No reason to make an appointment and then treat someone so poorly. read more

I literally just left Rumors Salon & Spa and had the most wonderful experience there! Nissi was my stylist and she was fantastic. I showed her an image of the layers that I wanted for my hair and she delivered. She was very patient and thorough - checked in with me if my hair was as long as I wanted or if I wanted her to go shorter, if the layers were as prominent/blended as I wanted them to be. 12/10 will be returning to Rumors and asking specifically for Nissi. read more

I really wanted to like this salon & don't get me wrong my hair looks good but not too happy with the whole experience. They're so nice when you're there they do treat you really well. I went in for a root touch up with a Master Stylist who had quoted me 100$ for the root touch up & toner. I go to the appointment & she can't get the yellow out of my hair after bleaching it twice so I leave with yellow hair & I had to work the next two days like that. When she gets me in it's with a different stylist which was entirely not her fault but she was instructed to put bleach on my hair again & then tone it. I had been told I was just going to get toned & I had things to do right after. The appointment ended up taking two hours & I had to leave with wet hair because the stylist I had already had clients waiting. Which I completely understand this was not her fault I was put down for just a toner. When I get to the check out they said 45$ for the toner so I asked why because I had already been quoted prior to that & I had paid already. The lady ended up not charging me for the toner but I tipped the stylist because she wasn't going to get paid for the two hours of work she did on me. Great staff. Great service but it sounds like they need more communication in between themselves. read more

I use to go here religiously. Never again. I thought I had found thee most amazing hair designer ever and I was proven wrong. We had a lot of fun with my hair with styles and colors. Until.... I called and set an appointment for a color and cut with Nancy. She colored my hair and friggn disappeared!. I wanted to get my nails done while I was waiting for my color to set. This girl Mitsy I think was her name did a french manicure....it looked HORRIBLE, so she asked me "well what do you want me to do about it?!?. I said could you please redo them, she got snippy. Come to find out she was also going to be the one to rinse my hair, then find out shes doing my hair cut. Not only did she not know how to stack my hair on top she cut the top part of my hair short...which you're suppose to do underneath to create a stack. Then chopped my hair way too short. Great so now I go up to the desk to pay and I'm in tears because I absolutely hate my hair and no one even asked what was wrong. I guess that's what I get for not saying anything....I payed an over priced price for a cut and color, to someone I trusted to do my hair that just ended up leaving in the middle of the session then have it finished off with a bang. I'm not sure about this salon. I will probably not go back because I went in for a trim & to re-frame my face. I went in with a long bob (mid-shoulder length) After I saw her chopping my hair from the top I got really nervous....upon inspection, the shortest length is just 3"and age used the razor technique which left my hair frizzy and not able to style well. I'm not sure why she decided to cut my hair on the top of my head so short as I didn't ask for a big change, just a trim (which to me says, I just want what I already have, just shorter. But what is done is done and nothing but time can fix it. In the last week, I've tried styling my hair using different techniques, all lacking the desired outcome. I can no longer straighten my hair in a long bob that tucks under... It lacks shape that allows it to tuck in. When I do I can see every layer in chunks. It sticks straight. It has a very blunt feel as well, thick in the ends and when I pull it in a ponytail it just sticks straight (when I had a long full tapered ponytail when I went in). I can only hit roll it, but the layers are so blunt that you can clearly see each level and the longest o e hangs very low from the shortest and feels very out dated. We are having family photos taken in January so I'm afraid to do anything with it b/c I'm afraid it will only make it worse. ****************************** I was so sick of my hair color that I decided to get it done. This time I tried another nearby salon. I mentioned to her my concerns regarding my cut. After washing it, she began to analyze the cut and discussed my options. We decided to conservatively recut my hair to give it the shape it lacked and to better blend the layers. In order to do this, she had to take (another) 3" off the back of my head. I now have a true a-line bob (shoulder length) with face shaping. She did this by point cutting into the back of my hair and blending the layers. It now swings, styles and feels so much better (if not much shorter than I wanted). I've been taking prenatal pills to grow my hair and in one bad decision to get a trim, I've lost 6" of hair. I'm hoping I can get used to the short cut. I think the stylists may need to get some more training on the newest cutting techniques. I can't speak for all, but I am extremely displeased. ********************************************** After putting in a call and this review on yelp, I got no response from the manager. I ended up going back to Swank Salon where I had a fabulous experience and told her i thought we had been too conservative on the cut she had fixed for me and needed to reassess the back. She ended up cutting another 1.5" off of it to make it fabulous. However, that just seals the deal for me. This salon does not want my business because they don't care that I came in from a trim and got hacked to pieces leaving me 7-8" shorter than I had intended when I asked for a trim. My top layer will need to grow out for a while before it is normal again. Sad. read more

I went in for my mother's day present. I talked to the stylist about getting a perm. She told me my hair could handle it. I asked for a spiral perm. She did a old ladies perm on my head. She used tiny rollers. I asked for medium size curls, she said the other ones were better. The day of the appointment she didn't seem happy about doing my hair. She mentioned she could do four clients in the time of my one perm. I showed her pictures of what I wanted. She told me that it was going to take 20 minutes to process my hair for the perm. I was left for almost 40 minutes in the chair processing. After she took the rollers out of my hair it was completely fried. Pieces of my hair were falling on the ground. She put some product in it and it didn't even curl. I'm so so shocked I didn't know what to say. I kept asking her if it would get curly. She she no this is it. I was devastated. The next day I came back to the salon and she said my hair was normal looking after a perm. It was a rat nest mess. No curls just a Tangled mess. She took 3 mins to look at it and dismissed me. Told me to get a conditioner treatment. I spent over 200$ on the perm. I went to a consultation at a different salon that took me in that day. She said my hair was over processed and was completely fried. She had to cut off 5 inches of my hair. She said she's been doing hair for 30 years and have never seen a perm this bad. You know that day when you wake up and say 'This hair needs help now!'? That was my yesterday. I tried what I thought were same day options...but to no avail. Since I love Aveda products, and had been to the Aveda Institute downtown several times, to great satisfaction, I called Rumors-A Salon down the street from my home. Kaylynn had one available time slot for that afternoon. How I was lucky enough to get a same day appointment for a cut with a Master Stylist, I do not know, but I did. Kaylynn did a great job! I had a horrible experience at this Aveda salon just recently. I went in with medium length hair and came out with literally a boys haircut. The right side is longer than left and can not be fixed at this point! Stylists were nice enough but really need to know more about cutting hair and listening to what the patron wants instead of what they think! They weren't very apologetic once they realize they screwed up my hair. all they did was offer to redo it and I don't think that's enough in most cases. Also they made sure to let me know that the redo was free but with a "don't forget to tip attitude." I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone and I won't be going back there again! read more

Very frustrated. I have tried for 2 days to make an online appointment for a massage today. As of 11:30 no one has contacted me to schedule an appointment for a 90 minute massage. I called and spoke with receptionist, giggled and said we have been having trouble with our online booking...sorry! I explained today is my only day off for a massage. Again "sorry we are booked". Again I explained today was my only day off. "Well let me try my management and see what they say and I will call you back". I received a call an hour later saying "she couldn't reach a manager, but I can get you in tomorrow for a massage. ". Really bummed because they do have pretty good massage therapists, but they clearly have some issues they need to fix. read more

My husband bought me a gift certificate for a haircut and a massage. I had an appointment this morning. My haircut was super quick and I had a little wait time between that and my massage. About 10 minutes before my scheduled massage time, they told me that due to a situation the therapist was going to be a little late. While I wasn't really worried about it, the staff went above and beyond to make it up to me. They were all wonderful! When the therapist arrived, I was super impressed with my massage too! I've been going to Rumors for years. Recently, I scheduled an appointment for a trim and highlights. I had less than an inch trimmed from my hair and partial highlights (actually less than partial) done. When I got up to pay, it was around $120. Although I am happy with the results, I think I was overcharged. I just don't feel that a trim is the same as a cut and when less than partial highlights are done, one should be charged for less. Unless there is a charge the shampoo and style, $120 just doesn't add up. Maybe they charge if they use product in your hair for styling? I would think that would be included.... Also, this has never happened before, but for some reason my head is extremely red, sensitive, and itchy where the highlights were done. With Rumors being so pricy, I expect more. There is so much competition in this industry, I'm considering going to another salon. read more

Run, don't walk! Never felt so compelled to write such a negative review. I refuse to support a salon that does not believe the customers complaints. I brought in a hairpiece to have 5 inches cut and the stylist cut 12 inches and stylist didn't even give me a mirror to look at the back of my hair. Stylist told the manager that she was "uncomfortable" cutting the hairpiece. (Blatant falsehood) and she never stated that to me. I do not feel that I got the result I wanted. The salon offered a "free service" as compensation. Really? Why would I want to come back to a stylist that did a bad job? I don't feel that a free service is compensation for the hairpiece she messed up and I would not feel comfortable returning to the salon knowing a customer rights are secondary. They can't give me a free service to make up for it, a hairpiece that is too short. They did nothing to prove good customer service to me! Customer service is everything! I 've noticed the salon doesn't have as many clients and several of the stylists have left, seems to be a reflection! read more

It has been a long time since I have been able to get away and come in here to get any services done and decide to make time today and had scheduled a massage and then a lady came and spoke to me about the massage therapist was running a bit behind which was okay because it was nice and clean and quiet and relaxing in there and I didn't mind waiting or rescheduling if I needed to, but instead they offered me a free service while I waited which they did not have to do and they went above and beyond to take care of me and the inconvenience. I went to Lori at Rumors to have my eyelash extensions filled in. NOT SUPER IMPRESSED!!! My sis in law in Utah originally did them for me in Utah a few weeks ago and did an exquisite job! They looked like I grew them, but are gorgeous! They are the individual faux mink lashes that are adhered one at a time to each single lash. She gave me specific instructions on how to care for them, and what to do/use to extend the life of them. She also told me to make sure I got a good tech to do the fills and to make sure they have photos to show their work. I called several places and decided to go with Lori, because she seemed to know exactly what I needed and was knowledgeable about the process and has been doing it for 3 years. I was told by one of the staff members either the person I initially talked to or her that she could show me photos of work on other lashes she had done (to show the quality of her work). I made the appointment based on the knowledge I felt she had and that she could show her work. I was stupid to not go in and view her work BEFORE my appointment. I got there on my appointment day and asked to see photos of her work. She said she didn't have any. I told her, that when I made the appointment I was told she had photos. She said. "Well, I don't know who told you that". ummm, Ok. It was kinda awkward at that point, as I had already been walked into the room downstairs where she does it. I should have left, but I figured, I'd try her because it was either here or 45 mins somewhere else and the cost was reasonable to me. THIS WAS MY RESULT: She had to pry my eyes open because she got the adhesive on my lower lashes. When I opened my eyes they were burning and watering from the excess amount of adhesive. Yeah, I know the adhesive has fumes. This was just too much adhesive! I had big black clumps of adhesive stuck to my eyelids, that were also adhered to the lashes, so to not have black rocks stuck in my eyelids I had to pry the adhesive ball, lash and all out with tweezers. Also, she adhered one of the lashes too far up, so it was poking onto my lid. There were also lashes adhered in different directions so they didn't lay nice and some were poking out in odd directions. My first experience with getting lashes was not at all like this! There was no burning, or clumps, and they were adhered right at my lash line, and layed beautifully. There was nothing even touching my eyelid, which there shouldn't be! I know what quality looked like the first time and this wasn't it. Too bad. I'm not wanting to be rude, but trusting someone with glue near your eyes is a big deal! This is a very precise thing that they do, and when its good, its very good, and when its not, well you don't want to end up looking like there's been something super obvious and overdone on your face or get burning glue in your eyes. You want to look natural, like your eyes are beautiful, but people can't quite put their finger on it, because they can't even tell, it just looks that awesome. After repeatedly telling Donna to cut my hair shorter - she gave me a haircut that was too long and also uneven 2 weeks ago. I went in to get it corrected and she was rude and told me I should have come in sooner. Sorry for having a job and a life. She acted like all I wanted was a free haircut. Yeah for customer service! I guess management has taught them that unhappy customers - with valid complaints - should be disrespected and treated poorly. As soon as she started blaming me I got up and left. Will never return. Worst haircut of my life. I have short hair, came in to have it cut a little, and literally have no hair left. I take my glasses off for the haircut, and couldn't see how much she was taking off. What is left on top is so uneven, I had to cut it myself to even it up. If you are uncomfortable cutting short hair, or don't have enough training to do it, please tell me.
