Rumble fish is my favorite sushi place in Scott's Valley, the food is always delicious and the service is great. We are frequents customers and will either order take out to enjoy at home, or come in for the experience of dining. Never have had issues with the quality ordering take out either. They have a good deal on hot sake posted on the walls, I believe $2. Rolls that we love are the Oh Yes, always a must for us and the Mt Hermon. We like to get 4-5 rolls to share so we have a variety. 10/10! Rumble Fish in Scotts Valley is my new favorite Japanese spot. We went yesterday and are going back again today because we loved it so much. Big fan of the Miss Piggy! My favorite baked roll ever. We should add bacon and parmesan to more sushi rolls. It was creamy, rich, decadent, and downright sinful. This experience is based purely on takeout experience. I called ahead while we were fully being tourists in Santa Cruz with the intention of picking up dinner take back to our hotel which was in Scotts Valley. The customer service was straight up five stars. The staff was so friendly and consistently addressed me by my name (it was on my order) :) There were two in particular that kept checking in with me... a woman who checked me in at the register and a man who was running between the tables and the kitchen. Even as I was leaving, the man was helping a table outside, but when he saw me leaving, he said, "Thank you, Lani! Have good night!" Now that may not mean a whole lot to someone else, but it says a lot when a business personalizes your experience. Now for the food. It was pretty good. We ordered six sushi rolls which was entirely too much for two people. The rolls were pretty good in size. Here's what we ordered: California roll Salmon skin roll Sake roll Two shitake rolls Tempura roll We got all the above except instead of the regular tempura roll (with shrimp tempura), we actually got the yam tempura roll. (We did confirm the entire order at the end of the call at the time of ordering). We didn't see this until we were back at our hotel. We were disappointed, but not mad about it. We didn't make a big deal about it either. My daughter thought one of the rolls that rice that was a little dry (not as sticky), but it overall was good. Four stars to even it out. read more

This place was great! I wasn't sure what to expect but all the fish was fresh and the service was very friendly. They definitely have some unique menu items, as well as your typical ones. The menu is HUGE and their selection of rolls are very impressive. The fantastic 4 nigiri was fascinating. It was basically four types of fish stacked together and I had to order it to just experience it. Sashimi salad was delicious, spicy scallop nigiri was super tasty too. The one I wasn't a fan of was the Kazunoko nigiri (herring roe). I've never seen this on a menu anywhere so I figured I'd go out on a limb and try it but it was more dense than I expected and a little fishy. Wouldn't order that again but I'm glad I got the chance to try something new! I eat a lot of sushi so it's not often I get to try a new nirigi. I've been going to Rumble for 15 years and the quality isn't what it used to be. Sushi is great but it's the other food where they have challenges We ordered a group lunch today for 6 people and it was meh. The katsu chicken was very overcooked and dry and it didn't even look like it was cooked today. The gyoza and tempura were also overcooked. I didn't feel great afterwards. I may try again but will stick to sushi. read more

This spot came highly recommended by someone who goes here all the time, and after my first visit, I can absolutely see why! The service was so kind and attentive, and the food was really delicious!! I ordered the Seafood Udon (pictured), and it was packed with flavor and fresh ingredients. I will definitely be getting it again! I used to visit Rumble Fish in college and had fond memories of their lunch bento boxes. I'm so glad the meal and visit lived up to what I remembered! On our way out of Santa Cruz, my husband and I stopped by Rumble Fish for a late lunch. We both ordered the lunch bento boxes - beef teriyaki and katsu for my husband and salmon teriyaki and a spicy tuna roll for me. Both boxes came with miso soup, rice and salad. Two weeks ago, my family of 4 came here for lunch as we were in the area at around 11ish-am. Yelp brought us here. We were seated immediately as we walked in, and there were about 3 parties seated inside already. Menus were given, and within minutes, we were checked on to order by 2 people. I think it's great that the staff was prompt. However, the menu is large, so time is definitely needed. Took us about 10 mins to look through the menu and ordered what we wanted. The following was what we ordered: 1. Edamame: Cooked just right. It's not soft and has a crunch texture. No salt was added, but it came w/ a lemon wedge. First time seeing this. It's a different taste with citrus, but it's not too bad. Slightly bland. 2. Sake Bowl (rice and salmon): Comes with miso soup and salad for my 8yo. -Soup is very flavorful but not salty, and the seaweed in the soup is fresh. Nice and crunchy. -The salad is fresh mix w/ sesame flavor dressing. My 10yo finished it w/o hesitation. -The shashimi comes in a boat design bowl w/ a layer of rice sprinkled with furikake under the sashimi. Also, a small side bowl of white rice was provided. The sashimi cut were very thick and the quality is good and fresh. You can easily tell with the color and texture of the fish. He couldn't finish the sashmi on his own though he usually does elsewhere. -The cucumber salad that came with the entree was ok, but the seaweed salad is delish! 3. Orang Blossom, replace w/ cucumber: My 10yo devoured this. 3. Lion King, baked: Very flavorful with great flavors. However, there was too much sauce on the bottom that the pieces fell off easily when I picked it up. 4. Hamachi Love: Love! Good amount of Hamachi and tobiko with the right flavors. I may be bias as hamachi is my fav. 5. Fire Dragon, baked: Love the crunch, but the sweetness to it throws me off as I was expecting spicy and savory, but it wasn't either. 6. Sake belly: Need I say more? Delish! 7. Tobiko Nigiri: A must have for me and my 10yo each time. The service in general was decent but not great. A small and intimate sushi restaurant nestled in Scotts Valley within Santa Cruz mountains. There are outdoor seatings, and it got busy quickly as lunch time approached. Would visit again in the future to try other rolla as the menu is pretty extensive. read more

The other local sushi ship was closed on Monday so we ended up at a Rumble Fish. +1 star for being open The place was busy and we didn't have reservations, but were sat at the sushi bar in less than 10 minutes. +1 for reasonable wait Employees were bustling in all directions, but nobody looked stressed. I love this little sushi restaurant up here in Scotts Valley. The rolls are really fresh and delicious the miso soup never fails to warm me up. But I think what is most to recommend are the friendly staff and chefs. Every time I step inside that restaurant even if I'm just picking up a to go order I'm greeted with cheerful faces from people that seem like they really like where they work. Was super excited to try this place in Scotts Valley! We got there Friday evening and the place was super packed, but we fortunately got a seat. Honestly, this place has one of the best sushi and sashimi in the area! They are known for their big portions and big sushi rolls, so definitely keep that in mind when ordering! The sashimi was cut thick and is super fresh. I particularly loved their salmon and hamachi sashimi. They also have a myriad of sushi rolls from fresh rolls, baked rolls to special rolls. The size of the rolls are huge and they are very generous with their ingredients! We also got the jalapeno poppers, which was super tasty. I also highly recommend their hamachi kama-- which for the price is super big and grilled to perfection. I also loved how the kama was not too salty! Lastly, the service is awesome and everyone there is super friendly and nice. I left feeling full and satisfied and I know I will definitely be back to this place when I am in the area. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Parking was available in their private lot and the staff inside the restaurant were properly wearing masks. The outdoor patio was available for first-come, first-served with heaters available, but no waiter service. There was a porta-potty in their secondary parking lot, which was surprisingly clean and stocked with paper towels, soap, and manual water supply for washing hands. Ordering was done at the counter or via their website with a "10% off" which I wasn't able to see?!? The order took a good 30 minutes. The Fire Dragon was decent. It had a nice sear to it but being in a plastic box kind of ruined it... The side salad and miso soup were mediocre, typical of a Korean-owned sushi joint! ~$25/head after tax for dinner. read more

We stopped off here for lunch since we were in the area. The restaurant itself is pretty basic and has indoor and outdoor seating. I got the bento box with salmon sashimi and veggie tempura. The food was above average and the sashimi was a very generous portion and delicious. Service was friendly but slow. Giving four stars out of five because if you are going to open a restaurant at 11:30, you need to get the overwhelming smell of mop, water and cleaning materials out of the air before you let customers come in and sit down and order. It honestly was disgusting. That's the bad and the ugly... Now the good... Their rolls are creative and yummy. Especially the aloha roll with the macadamia nuts. What this place also offers is a chance to order little extra side containers of Unagi sauce, spicy, mayo, etc. What a nice touch... Not allowed places have that option. Anyways, I do come here on a regular basis but again they need to watch the smells that would interfere with being advertising for the food. read more

We have frequented this restaurant a few times and have had good experiences in the past. The food is good. However, with our last experience with the service, we will not be returning. We ordered, the waitress was friendly, and we waited for our appetizer which never came. Our sushi order was delivered by the bus boy. We had ordered a bento box that came with a side of sushi. Our sushi came out, but we never received the bento box order. Our waitress did not check up on us to see how we were doing with our order. We finished our sushi and the waitress came and dropped the bill. We told her that we hadn't received the tempera appetizer or the rest of the bento box. Then the owner came by and explained that there was an issue with the computers and the kitchen staff had not received some of the order. Fair enough- we understood. But the interesting part was that the owner began to break down what we ate and wanted to ensure that we were charged for everything that we ate. She ended up taking 15% off the bill - what her employees get (in my opinion, not the best employee discount, but beside the point.....). For all the trouble with the service and kitchen mix-up, one would think she could do better with customer service. At that point, what is more important, nickel and diming your customer, or ensuring your customer returns? read more
