We were referred to this business by First American Home Warranty. I was skeptical using them as I had read numerous negative reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised to receive excellent service by Carlos. He diagnosed and corrected an issue with our heater and installed new thermostats. He was thorough, professional and friendly. I plan on using him for future preventative maintenance. read more

They submitted a claim to our home warranty after missing the appointment and NEVER stepping foot on property and never doing a proper HVAC evaluation. Only after submitting a complaint to our home warranty company did they offer to come out 25 hours AFTER the scheduled time. UPDATE: After getting a second opinion, Carlos' original opinion that our mini split had failed w/o ever looking at the unit was confirmed to be a lazy call. The new HVAC company actually came out, opened and looked at the unit and determined the sensor and filter were dirty which was causing the noise. After cleaning, the noise went away and never came back. read more

Ruiz Air Conditioning & Heating completely wasted my time. I had a confirmed appointment through Ruiz, but when I called to confirm, the employee lied and said my order was "closed." FAHW verified it was still open. If they lie about service requests, how can you trust them with repairs or costs? Back in July, their techs even drilled into my unit, releasing all the Freon (they later fixed it). The workers were polite, but the company itself is dishonest and unreliable. I won't use them again. read more

Ruiz A/C were sent bt First American Home warranty. They promptly diagnosed the problem and repaired it. They also showed me how to do some preventive maintenance that I can do myself whole ensuring the A/C doesn't fail, again, in July, in Palm Desert Nuff said. read more

they are garbage. they don't answer calls they don't return calls. they say they are coming to service the ac no one shows up and they don't even call to let you know worst company ever it's ran by incompetent people. Customer service and communication is the worst read more

Very timely and professional, with service scheduled promptly after contractor assignment by First American Home Warranty. Carlos came to the house morning of assignment and had AC working within minutes of arrival. Very pleasant experience! read more

I called First America Home Warranty at 6pm on Thursday. They used Ruiz Air. They came at 9am Friday and said that it needed a part, we would here from the office. No response so I called at 3pm, he said he would send the report to FAHW. In the meantime, 120 degree heat wave hit. Purchased 2 portable a/c units from Lowe's. Cooled the master bedroom and den to 85. The rest of the house got up to 95-100. Received an email to approve the work on Monday and no response from Ruiz. Hubby called and they said 4-6 weeks. Fast forward, we ended up calling Cool Breeze, fixed in 2 hours...... but paid out of pocket. Ruiz has no communication skills and I am fighting with FAHW to pay up. Both are worthless. read more

First American assigned Ruiz to my house in escondido. Turns out my AC coils were just super dirty! The technician was very transparent and made sure my problem was resolved. Initial communication was a little bit of a struggle but they were super nice and got the job done fast. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This contractor was completely unprofessional. His out-of-pocket expenses were outrageous, and he tried to claim that multiple things needed fixing--which two other reputable contractors confirmed were completely unnecessary. His list of "issues" was pure nonsense. He couldn't even fix a basic leak. My AC was blowing warm air before he worked on it, and after he touched it, it wouldn't even turn on. To make matters worse, he ignored my calls and wouldn't respond to my home warranty company either. Communication was horrible from start to finish. I do not recommend him to anyone. read more

Despite all the bad reviews, I had no problem with them. They responded to my request within the 48 hours of my guaranteed home warranty response time. As far as arrival time, they gave me the usual 4 hour estimated time frame, but kept me posted per my request as to notifying me a half an hour before their actual arrival as the inside of my house was 104° and I had to stay someplace else. Oscar was great, both patients and knowledgeable. I expressed several of my concerns about my air conditioner. He addressed all of them and gave me some immediate options, and some long-term options. I paid a minimal amount out-of-pocket for an upgrade rather than wait for a backordered part. Again, this seems to be standard with home warranty services. The result was a cool house within an hour and an upgraded motor rather than waiting a couple weeks for another part and another service call. read more

Our air conditioner recently stopped blowing cold air. We contacted our home warranty company who in turn scheduled Ruiz Air for an appointment. The next day the technician arrived and quickly identified the problem and replaced a part. Immediately the system began working. What I really was impressed with was the knowledge of the technician, Oscar. He was patient and provided excellent information for what will ultimately be the replacement of our current old system. The prices he quoted were very reasonable and I know I will want to work with them again in the future. read more

Absolutely horrible! First American called them out for a window unit repair. The dude came out with a hammer, knocked on the ac twice and said it wasn't fixable. Southern California air did a second opinion and fixed it within an hour..... who are these jokers at Ruiz!? read more

Wanted to write these folks a good review as we had a good experience. Our furnace went out and was not working. We have a home warranty program so the reviews made us weary. Front office woman was polite, Called us within 24-48 hours, scheduled something. First call, Carlos came out. He was friendly, checked out system, did a minor change to get system running. No sketchy vibes or trying to swindle. Unfortunately a second call was needed, mostly because prior owner put in a thermostat with crappy wiring. Second call, younger guy and older guy came out to check out. Again super nice, explained issue. Ended up replacing malfunctioning thermostat which warranty covered. Overall good experience with these folks. At no point did I feel they were trying to game us for money. Like with any job, it's definitely crucial to get a 2nd opinion if you feel it's a large job or unsure of any assessment. I appreciate how chill they were. I think any homeowner wants to feel comfortable and not feel like someone's trying to get a buck out of them. Thank you Ruiz and company. Please continue this great service. read more

This company is a scam! Period. Worst customer service and they will try to extract more money from you. read more

We purchased a new home and purchased a First American Home Warranty. The company came out to assess the air conditioning and took the info back to submit to the insurance. We received a call from the insurance company that they would cover only 1.2K of the install. I told them to contact this company to let me know when they could install the unit, as parts were on backorder. This company has never called me back, and it has been many months. They do not intend to call me. I may have to call my lawyer to deal with the home warranty as they failed to meet their obligation. read more

First American home warranty. Needed Freon. Carlos was prompt and efficient. Thanks!

We wished we had read the reviews prior to them being assigned through our home warranty (First American) for our air conditioner repair. They tried to charge $850 out of my pocket fee for and electrical something because they said my compressor was bad. We had suspicion they were not legit. They could no explain the repair and what electrical meant exactly. Once we saw these reviews we had to decline that company. We got a 2nd diagnosis from another company and wow it ended up being capacitor repair not replace. Only charged a total of $490 for all of it and fixed the a/c on the spot. This scammer company was about to charge the home warranty $500 and me $850. Don't trust these people in your home. read more

Fried my whole central heat and air system and now they will not answer my calls. Avoid them at all costs!! If there is anything over a 1 star review on here don't believe it!! If your home warranty books them, request a different one. They mixed oils and installed the wrong compressor in case you're wondering. read more

The worst. First American home warranty dispatched them for us over the summer and they never called and never showed. Currently we're using them for a heating issue. The window was 11-4 , the guy called at 3:45 and said "are you home before I drive out that way?" Wow. So unprofessional. He was here on a Tuesday.... he ordered the part we need 8 days later. Now, another 8 days after the order... still waiting. read more

If you get assigned these guys by your home warranty, try your best to get out of it and get a different company. They are useless. You think a company like this would want as many jobs as they can get but nope; the lady on the phone is rude and has no knowledge about AC and heating and the technicians cancel without notice. read more

Got assigned to this company by First American Home Warranty to fix our unreliable gas furnace. The furnace didn't turn on when called to heat. A guy from this company came and tried to light up the furnace. Then he said there was wrong wiring in the furnace. If the problem comes again, we have to replace the whole furnace. The Home Warranty would cover the furnace replacement, but we have to pay for the modifications to all other stuff. It would be a hefty bill and all these modifications were not even necessary. We have to call Home Warranty again and got assigned to Cool Air. Turn out the problem was simple, just replacing the ignition module. The guy from Cool Air solved the problem quickly. This Ruiz HVAC company is incompetent and is a scam. They did not even attempt to resolve the problem. Instead, they'd want to replace everything for their bigger cut. read more

They were 3rd Tech to come out and check furnace referred by 1st American Home Warranty after not having heat for over a month. Was told furnace needed to be replaced and paperwork would be submitted. Called a day later and was told with the modifications that were needed to be made to install new furnace it would cost $2500 and this was not included as part of the warranty for the furnace. Called another contractor to check this out and no such modifications would be needed. Both Ruiz and 1st American are scammers and crooks! Ended up paying out of pocket for new unit with another company after this had dragged on for over a month and it was cold. DO NOT TRUST EITHER ONE!! Still dealing with 1st American for a payout they do not seem to want to deal with and get same story they are working on it. SCAMMERS!! read more

The worst customer service ever. I had an appointment between 10-1, which I took time off of work for. They never showed up. We called and called. It seemed as if they were dodging our phone calls. When we did finally get ahold of someone. They said they cancelled our appointment and to go somewhere else. We never asked them to cancel our appointment. We simply wanted to know when they would be here. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!! I failed to mention we are in the middle of a heat wave. It's 114 outside and I still have no A/C and it's Friday. read more

The first came out and diagnosed the coils as not working. He left the panel to our electrical box outside open and left the box for the coils open to release what little cool air we had. We waited from July to October because the part was not correct. This is in 110+ weather. We waited until October to have these guys out since First American worked with these guys. I foolishly thought that they could be trusted. I wish I had read the reviews first. They came in an hour and a half late for the install. They did the shittiest welding and caulking job. It looks like a preschooler did finger painting with the caulk. They had bent pieces of metal from the old unit and cold air leaked out every time the unit came on. I called First American and they came out the next day to make the crappy install look decent. The next day my ac stopped working. I had the Heating and Cooling Specialists out since I threw a fit to First American about the crap job Ruiz did. Turns out that Ruiz installed the coils sideways and made the drain pipe where the water cannot drain. After waiting a week for Ruiz to come back out and fix the atrocities they wrought in my home, they contact my warranty company and tell them they tell me they need me to make a hole in the wall for their dumb asses to repair something they already had two chances of fixing. Plus they left a gap in my drywall since the part was incorrectly measures. First American will send someone else out if you really are firm with them. Heating and Cooling Specialists really did well for us. read more

Needed photos to get my a/c replaced by my home warranty , tried calling this company to get my pictures but no answer .

Company is not closed as of 9-18-2019 Ok, so I was very skeptical as I too had this company called out to work on my system from a home warrantee company. What made it more complicated is that we have a 'Carrier Infinity' system which is apparently a big deal because the first two companies they sent us declined the appointment as soon as I told them what system we have. When I ask the dispatcher at Ruiz about it she didn't seem like she knew what the system was but said, "we work on everything..." ... Ok. So, Oscar came out today, ran over the whole system and found the capacitor to be bad. He checked everything else out and did mention that they won't work on zoned circuit boards (the key part that scared off the other companies). But he said he would check the board and if it's bad would replace with a single or report to the warranty company to see if they cover. Turns out board checked out fine so all good there. Why I'm giving Oscar and Ruiz Air a 5 star is because he came out, fixed the issue, and hung out and answered all the questions I asked to the best of his ability. IMO that's a very successful service call and we're going to sleep much better in the now working AC. read more

This is the worst company to work with. There technician Oscar came out two weeks ago to Diagnose the problem with me unit. Found the problem had to get back to me with a price. I okayed the work and schedule for them to come back out. They showed up with out the right ladder to do the work. I called the office and now they are telling me they can't do the work because they can't work on a roof that is over a one story house. They should have told me this from the beginning when they first came to my house and I could of had another company come out that is able to do the work. Now I have been with out heating and air for two plus week and have to go another few weeks because of there lack of good business. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING. Worst business I have done any business with. read more

Avoid this company at all costs. I have unfortunately had the displeasure of interacting with this company twice due to my home warranty company, First American Home Warranty, only using this company as the service provider for AC calls and both times have encountered shady and questionably business practices. The first time was when my AC wouldn't kick on, the thermostat was on and working and the AC unit was working before a trip out of town but for whatever reason wouldn't kick on. I had them come out to take a look and the technician went on the roof for a bit then came back and said the issue was the wiring from the AC unit to the thermostat. Ok no problem easy fix to throw in some new working its not a complex unit no fancy smart thermostat and the AC unit is about 10 years old NOPE the way they worded it to the warranty company it eneded up being not covered also the tech left the old wiring on the roof which just so happened to have a perfect cut on it from a pair of wire cutters. Obviously I cannot prove the tech cut it so they can get paid more by me compared to the warranty company but this is the first issue. The second issue was the real kicker. They came out last week and at first were refusing to even do the service call which was paid for in advance with the warranty company because my property is a duplex, my warranty is for a multifamily property and covers both units. I had to explain this to the tech who called is boss who as well tried to decline the service call but eventually gave in when he could tell I understood everything he was saying to his tech in Spanish, I'm a white boy lol, so the they give in and the tech does a half a$$ job doing a 10 minute inspection and says the only issue is the seal around the output of the unit where it goes into the roof is loose and just need to be resealed with some caulk or something similar and advised to go to home depot or lowes for materials. Again no problem easy fix I'm handy enough and can do that so I get the stuff jump on my roof and can see what the tech was talking about re-seal the output to see if the issue is resolved NOPE still not working right so after a few days I called Desert Air, AMAZING JOB thorough and extremely detailed explanations and GREAT TECH JULIO O, and had to pay an after hours fee due to the weekend and they told me that all I did was put a band aid over a bullet hole the real issue is that the coils on the AC unit are leaking coolant and the whole unit would eventually need to be replaced so I paid to have them add more coolant and throw a sealant in the coolant to see if that helps, low and behold the AC unit is working in tip top shape now with no issues since Desert Air did the job correct and now I am stuck fighting with my warranty company to get this paid for because again the way Ruiz AC worded the service call my warranty company is not wanting to cover the work and even better because of how Ruiz AC worded the issue they are trying to cancel the whole policy for my AC units that I pay extra for. read more

HORRIBLE experience!!!! Find a different company!!! Everything is true on bad review. over a month still no AC 118 degrees days with 4 kids in home. This company should be ashamed. Also price gouging because our Insurance company only uses this company. read more

I caught another air conditioning company wiring my ac incorrectly. I had a maintenance contract with the other company and they took that opportunity to try and induce a major failure of my ac system. At the time that this became evident to me I put in a service call to my home warranty provider and Ruiz Air Conditioning and Heating came out and found the incorrect wiring and restored my ac to fully operational. It felt good to find someone with some honor after dealing with thieves. Since then I installed a new wifi thermostat (incorrectly) and called Ruiz AC&H because I couldn't figure it out and they corrected it. Thanks. read more

My AC was making some slamming noises so I went through my home warranty to get an inspection done by this company. Oscar from Ruiz arrived just after the time window estimated for his arrival ended (this was a 5 hour window between 12 and 5 PM hence 4 stars and not 5) but provided friendly and easy to understand service. He identified duct work that was the likely source of the noise and that the AC was in good condition. I appreciated that he wore a mask as well for Covid transmission prevention. I think the scheduling issues leading to him arriving late we're not entirely in his control so I can't really rag on the company, but I would suggest that they call the client well ahead of time if technicians may not be able to arrive on time. read more

Don't ever do business with this company. Worst ever. Scammers. I had a bad experience with them when they were contracted out by my Home Warranty, First American. They went out after a week of my AC not working. I have tenants in the house that were out of an AC unit going on a week prior to them coming out. They got there, inspected the unit. They said it was a bas Coil and Thermal Expansion Control and it would cost $1,100.00 to do maintence on it. I had agree after having to call my home warranty, First American three times to find out what the issue was. First American and I tried to get ahold of them with no luck. Had to get someone out there ASAP to get the AC working again. Tried calling several times but kept getting a "The caller is not accepting messages at this time since their mail box is full." RUIZ failed to call back. I found a different contractor that since it was running into two weeks and no word from them or my home warranty. Long Story short, got a new contractor, went out, turned out it wasn't even what Ruiz said it was. It was a capacitor and a recharge on the unit. I asked that company that fixed my unit if my AC needed to be maintence like Ruiz suggested, they said No and $1,100 dollars seem like a scam to do nothing. Now I canceled First American Warranty, Suing them for the amount charged by the contractor and for choosing these people. Be warned, these people will scam you for your money. Don't trust them. Read the reviews. They are located in El Centro. Still scratch my head why First American uses them as a contractor despite all their horrible reviews. read more

Carlos came. He said he needs to order parts but ghosted. No response. Waste of time. Bunch of stupid junkies

Had our title insurance assign this company. No answer, no call back for 24 hrs. My wife was horrified by their yelp and BBB complaints. I called the insurance company and they got an answer the first try?! Then the AC Co said they couldn't send anyone out until Friday. It's Tuesday, we called Monday and it's bw 95-100 degrees this week. Glad we dodged this bullet but sucks we had to be proactive after losing 24 hrs wo AC. Title insurance assigned another company for tomorrow. read more

I was nervous to have this company come out based on past yelp reviews. I also have First American Home Warranty and they were assigned to fix our problem. I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely use this company again. read more

DISHONEST COMPANY!! Like some of these other reviews, they were sent by the American Home Warranty company to troubleshoot my A/C. This guy NEVER even went into my house, looks around in the crawl space in my garage and says there is a problem with the motor. He then tells me (and a general contractor who was there with me), that he was calling the home warranty company that day to tell them the motor needs to be replaced. The following day, I was contacted by the home warranty company who proceeded to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the motor!!! I can't understand why the guy from Ruiz would tell me one thing and then turn around and tell the home warranty company something entirely different. This is completely outrageous that a professional business would do something like this. Do not waste your time with this company. read more
