3.1 miles and 25 muddy obstacles (aparently). I guess this is their watered down version of Tough Mudder right down to climbing over a wall to get to the start line was like one big TM rip off. You could volunteer and run for free. Entry included a T-Shirt and Beer post Run. There was very little Running at this event, more waiting at obstacles then anything. Some of the obstacles were fun (Mud Crawls, Monkey hoops,Climbing Walls ect) but then some were just really lame. Walking through a muddy puddle or a pile of foam is not what I would call an obstacle and there was not 25 of them, a couple listed on the map were nowhere to be seen. The final was pretty fun though - you climb up to a large slide that goes down to the finish line. Gives you the mutha of all wedges though. This event you had the option to be timed and run for prizes, I would usually be all for this but as I was with my Husband and he's a lot slower than me I didn't bother and instead let him set the pace. I felt really bad for those that did pay extra for this though as they ran the same course as everybody else and had to stand and wait at obstacles. It's in instances like this that they need a separate course or a special section for those people to bypass the waiting. I ended up letting a few of those people ahead of me just so that they could shave a few seconds off of their time. The Guy getting everybody ready at the start line was pretty cool though and did a good job at getting everybody amped up for the event and a big bonus for me was that all professional pictures taken on the course are free and will be available later on in the week. Also: - No signs to indicate where restrooms were. - Wanted to charge $5 for changing your wave time. We got here really early and just joined when we could as did many other people. Some ran later some earlier so it all evened out. The organizers were just trying to make extra money out of people. - Only 1 Water station on the course. Sign up was easy but had a few small issues: - Paid an extra $20+ in hidden fee's when registering in February only 6 weeks later for them to do away with those extra fee's. So what.. those who sign up earlier get penalized? - Was sent an email the day before the event a stating course map has been added to the racer info packet only it hadn't. I really wanted to see the course before the event. more for my Husband than for myself so that I could make sure he was prepared. It wasn't available until the actual day. Would I do it again? Probably but only if I got discount again (got a Groupon). I would not pay the full price of $70 or so when I only paid $85 to run Tough Mudder again in August.

I would definitely do the Rugged Maniac 5k again!!! This was so much Fun!! It was my first time doing an obstacle course (20+ varied obstacles) and certainly the first time I've had so much mud on my person! I joined a team and we all helped each other out and up and over obstacles so I would recommend that. I had read up on Facebook for tips which definitely helped prevent injuries - Gorilla grip gloves ($5 at Home Depot), arm sleeves to protect due to crawling, compression capris to also protect the knees. I came away with some knee bruises but no scrapes. I do strength training 3 days a week and walk/run about 15 miles a week which made me feel like I had some strength going in but there are all ages and body shapes who can do it, finish it and have a blast! If anything this motivates and challenges me to get stronger for the next one!

This is called Jumpstart.

I had so much fun at this! It was my first time doing a mud obstacle course race and i think this one was a great one to start with. Parking was easy and I had no trouble figuring out where to go. Signs were clearly visible everywhere for check in, showers, changing areas, bag check and the start line. The obstacles themselves were great. Some were harder than others, and they seemed to get wetter or muddier near the end. But that's what makes it fun. There was no shame if you couldn't do an obstacle. Many went around it or just tried anyway. All the participants and even the spectators at the end were all very encouraging, cheering each other on, helping each other up a step, offering a hand to grab. Great camaraderie and teamwork in the spirit of the event. I think the different wave times really helped eliminate the wait times at the obstacles. In my experience, the only time I had to wait to complete an obstacle was the very last one. Everything else had people doing them but definitely space, and room to go in and do it. My personal experience was at the very end. I was having trouble running up the warped wall. The volunteers at the top and the spectators watching were actually cheering me on to keep trying. It took 4 attempts but i finally got it, grabbed a few hands as they helped pull me up and over the top. The crowd was cheering for me! Never in my life have i experienced such pride and such an amazing thrill as something like that. I plan to do this again next year without question.

We were a bit disappointed because I had received an email that it was drift night, but when we arrived it had actually been the night before. Marketing really needs to have accurate messaging going out. I double checked the email to see if I'd read it right and it indeed had the wrong night listed. Kids were super bummed, but decided to go out and drive and still had a great time. The track was a tad slippery still from drift night so they actually had a few tiny drift moments. They have food and drinks available for reasonable prices. Mostly pub type food, as well as snacks and candy. Lots of nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages available. There's a pool table and other games in an arcade area. Plenty of seating options. I love that electric carts are available, as I don't miss having to breathe in fumes with the former gas carts. Yay for technology! Plenty of parking out front. You can register to play online before you arrive or at the door.

You can pre register online and just check in upon arrival. You're immediately assigned a host to guide you through the event. In the beginning the process was a bit confusing but it all got sorted out by the time the race began. All drivers got a safety instruction. Then guided to 2 guys to help with helmet fitting. Birthday girl was girl in line as cars weee assigned to everyone in the party. There is a place to sit and watch the racers doing their laps. The 1st lap took some getting used to. But since it was a private track time for the party, there were no unnecessary public interactions crashing cars into each other. Safety first which I really appreciated. The girls had a complete blast once they figured out how the cars drove. There was a short 20 min break in between laps where they were given drink cards and game cards to use $10 ea. The second lap was the one that counts and who won 1st 2nd 3rd place. In the end everyone received a certificate and got to stand on the podium for pics. We brought our own cake. K1 provided the sliders and pretzel dogs and utensils plates. The party section was spacious and clean. Loved the decor. Great for older kids and adults as some of the parents, kids at heart, had to refrain from joining in on the party. Many of the kids weren't able to use their game card as we ran out of time. The kids saved it for their next visit. I would recommend this place for parties or a night out or even team building event.

An absolute dream for all of you winos out there. I came across this event on the Alameda County Fair website. I had planned to attend the fair, but couldn't figure out which date that I wanted to go. But once I saw this event, I knew that I just had to go and check it out because it just sounded too good to be true! I paid $45 for the event which included admission into the fair. Parking was not included, and I prepaid for parking online which costed $10. This event was actually held on the field right in the middle of the horse races! I was given a wrist band that included in and out privileges, but I ended up staying there the whole time since I got there about an hour and a half after it started. The event was held between 2 and 5 pm, but I rolled in "fashionably late" (ahem!) at 3:30pm. I actually feel like this was a great time to go because the lines weren't excessively long, and I might have passed out from all of the wine if I would have kept drinking. There were over 40 different wineries pouring their most popular and award winning wines! There were many local wineries as well as a few that I had recently visited while wine tasting in Mendocino county! Way too many to name, but there was so much variety! The pourers were mostly volunteers, so many of them didn't know too much about the wineries and the background of the wines. However, this event wasn't meant to be intimate as there were so many different wineries that were showcasing their wines. There were many shaded tables and chairs around where people could sit. They also had a big wager tent where people could sip while betting on the horse races! I did not participate in the betting this time around, but I would like to do it next year for sure. I must have tried over 50 different wines that day! A word of advice to anyone who is thinking about coming out: drink lots of water and pace yourself! I believe that they had a water stand available in the wagering tent, but I just brought my own. Unfortunately, I didn't follow my own advice and didn't pace myself. I'll let you figure out how the night ended... In any event, the Sip, Savor, & Wager was really fun! I met lots of people, mingled around, and tried many different wines that I had never tried before. There were also a few food trucks around for those who didn't get a chance to eat. This was the first time that this event was held in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair and I think it was an excellent turn out! Being able to get a closeup view of the horse races was icing on the cake. I definitely plan to attend the event next year if they decide to have it again!

Biggest problem is they don't serve the wines (especially reds) at appropriate temperatures. Reds shouldn't be served at room temp when its 93 degrees out! Otherwise it's a decent time.

Hmm Yelp is kind of a weird place to write a race review but whatever, here goes…read more I'm not a serious triathlete just someone who enjoys the sport for fun and to say I finished a race so this review is going to come from that perspective. I thought this race was really fun! The lake was clean and pretty warm actually, while still being wetsuit legal and not too hot. The 1.5k swim course takes you around almost the entire lake, which made me feel like a real champ. The 40k bike course was really enjoyable. I'm from the east coast and am used to really flat bike courses so when I moved to SF this was a bit of a challenge. This one had a nice climb from mile 10 - 12 but otherwise was pretty simple. For someone like me this was just enough of a challenge to feel like I really did something without so many hills that I felt miserable. (Like I said, serious athletes may not have found this challenging enough, but I enjoyed it.) The 10k run was mostly on a trail which was great since I have knee problems. It's a 5k loop so you do it twice, which isn't super exciting, but I kind of liked knowing what to expect the second time around. Last year I raced the Folsom Long Course Triathlon which is also put on by USA Productions and had quite a few complaints about the level of support. But this race seemed well supported, so they really redeemed themselves in my eyes. Plus, it's pretty close to SF which is nice when traveling for a race. Into it!
