    Caramel beer!
    Riana C.

I LOVE this place! My beau took me here on a late Sunday night after coming from Bonifacio High Street, where everything was closed. The (small) bar was crowded inside and outside, but luckily a couple was leaving a tall sidewalk table as we arrived. We snagged it and sat outside enjoying our #bigasscaramelbeer pints. On my many trips to the bathroom to drain the lady lizard, I enjoyed the lively ambiance and loud music playing inside. Can't speak much about the food or other beer flavors, but try the #bigasscaramelbeer. It's worth the easy walk from Bonifacio High St. The beau said it's what he'd imagine Harry Potter's Butterbeer to taste like. I think it tasted as advertised, and I'm a fan. We'll be back next time we're in Manila!!

When most people speak of Williamsburgos (aka Poblacion, Makati), the first places they'll mention…read morewill most likely be the taco and yakitori joints on Felipe Street, or the Latin American chicken shack on Ebro. But one of my favorite places in Poblacion is actually a decrepit little pub, located beside Ringside and a couple of sleazy strip bars (it IS Makati's red light district, after all) mostly frequented by geriatric Caucasian expats and their Filipina wives, and maybe the odd hipster or two. That being said, The Woodman's Head is a great place to grab some beers and gin and tonics for cheap. I'm talking 60 pesos cheap. In fact, I kinda hesitate to write about this place because I am clannish about where I like to hang out, and prefer it if people don't hang out where I do when I go out because I am a notorious introvert. Another really great plus about this place is that Travis, a good friend of mine, has done a great service to The Woodman's Head by introducing Deep Fried Pickles(!!!!) to their menu. I know that dill pickles aren't everyone's cup of tea, but hear me out. When they are sliced thinly, deep fried in batter and dipped in Travis's magical Ranch Sauce (I realize that sounded vaguely pervy), it's sooooo good. Would definitely eat these even without the aid of alcohol. However, going to the Woodman's Head can be a little bit intimidating without a posse (unless you're a dude. If you're a woman going there independently, I suggest you bring friends, because). Still, it's a part of Williamsburgos that's off the beaten path, that I enjoy going to when my night is winding down, especially when I can't be bothered to shout over my beers just so my friends can hear me.

Draft is one of my favorite chill spots because one, they have my favorite beer on tap (Hoegaarden) and two, the food is damn good! Draft used to be the place we went to when it was time to wind down the evening. A beer or two to cap of the night. When we discovered that food was hella good here too it now has become the main event! The croquettes are my favorite thing in the world! Ham, chicken, and cheese all wrapped in delicious crunchy coating that I has burned my tongue on many occasions because I couldn't wait to have them. Their truffled mushroom risotto was sooooo good and creamy! Perfect dish to pair with anything else on the menu! Paired of course with an ice cold beer! Without a doubt a great experience with every visit.

Having tried their classic flight of beers, I can honestly say The Brewery has a solid selection, specifically their IPA, which I really enjoy. I'm not a beer expert but I am from San Diego, which is a major beer city in the States so my standards are a bit high. Their appetizers and desserts aren't too shabby as well. I can see why Yelpers have rated this place high. HOWEVER. Why the two stars? Because of their abysmal customer service, ESPECIALLY by a woman I am presuming is the manager. Her demeanor and her all black conservative outfit just screamed "HBIC" or "Head Bitch In Charge." Her name tag read "Mae." Her RBF ("Resting bitch face") is something serious and I am NOT exaggerating. It's even more serious when you have to interact with her. Mae, regardless of if you are or are not the manager, you should learn the value of customer service. Why would I want to go back to an establishment run by or that employs an ice queen as a host? Do what every grown adult does at a job and fake it. It won't kill you to smile and radiate a bit of warmth to patrons. This might sound crazy but it might even influence customers to come back or even better, positive word of mouth. The rest of the servers are... well. One waiter/bartender took my order, served my friend's cocktail and completely forgot about mine. I didn't see him again after so I had to call a waiter to follow up on my drink, after like 20 minutes of waiting. Two stars for the ambiance and solid brews and food. I was about to give it an extra star for the nice 20% on classic beers after 7 p.m. for Visa card holders but Mae and that waiter's idea of customer service didn't warrant the extra star. I might come back but why would I when "Yes Please" is right next door. Yes, it may be a bit pricier, food and drinks are concerned, but I'd gladly pay a little more than to be given a cold shoulder.

I'm not Kapampangan, but if you don't know what sisig is, it's a Kapampangan snack type of meat marinated in lemon juice or vinegar. It's usually eaten by itself, but to try it on top of pizza was a plus. Medium size that was a good snack for 4 people. With a couple snacks & 4 beers, bill was less than 1,000 PHP, not bad! Ambience: The Brewery is connected to The Pool club. When we walked over to the restrooms, you can easily walk out to the pool; however, both have different DJ's. BUT! I loved both DJ's. Now this is where I really enjoyed my night. The DJ at the Brewery was hands down playing all the hip hop & R&B music. My cousins knew what kind of music I listen to & they knew to stay on this side of the club longer. Enjoyed the music & food. Service was an average. How about things you do not see on a normal restaurant/club vibe basis? One of the workers was sweeping with the walis (broom) next to us doing their job by keeping the restaurant clean. I was amused for a sec & that wasn't the alcohol laughing. Walk out the side & dance the night away at the Pool club. They have couches to lounge on with bottle service, but a full dance floor by the DJ up front. Be amazed with their all around sound system. I recommend the Pool & the Brewery at the Palace!

I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked their recipe! I like my wings a little sour, and this hit the spot perfectly. Maybe a bit too spicy for my taste (although, I'm not complaining), but it is great for a quick buffalo wings fix. Look for Rachel -- she's the server who is stationed by the door.
