I wish I could say more good things for Boiler Room, but aside from its tasty pasta (Aglio Olio and Chicken Parmesan), cheap 60-peso beer, and having Maker's Mark (I prefer it over Jack Daniel's!) on the menu, the service is really bad.
One night, after a number of rounds with friends, half our group chose to settle their share of the bill and left earlier than the rest. When the remainder of the bill had to be paid for, the settled items appeared again. The server refused to take it out and since we were pretty drunk and it was already 1am, we didn't argue anymore. I thought it might just have been an unfortunate incident, but during a slow lunch hour, my friend and I found ourselves as the only customers there. Since the air conditioning wasn't turned on and we were smokers, we decided to eat and drink outside. The parasols weren't opened up despite the noon sun, and when we requested a server to set it up, she simply said that she was just serving food, and not the person who did the umbrella opening in the restaurant. Oh. Kay. We decided to stay in some form of shade that the closed parasol cast, comforted by cold beers but not the colder servers. That's too bad because they have a pretty extensive selection of whisky on their bar list! I hear it's a pretty cool spot to hang out at night, though. I wish I could share the sentiment, but I unfortunately don't have good experiences at the place. read more
