Edited to add a warning after a bad experience on 3/15/26. I was booked with massage therapist Jerry for an afternoon session. When I turned from prone to supine, which is a moment every properly trained therapist handles by looking away and securing the drape, Jerry was looking straight at me. His eyes were right above the sheet line while my chest was uncovered. It was so disturbing and shocking I didn't know what to do, and immediately felt dirty and at fault for no reason. This is a basic, non-negotiable professional boundary, and he crossed it. I've filed a formal complaint with management and requested a refund, disciplinary action, and a policy review -- including offering clients the option of a same-gender therapist at booking. If you're a woman booking here, ask specifically who your therapist will be and whether you can request a female therapist. You shouldn't have to, but until management addresses this, protect yourself. read more

We really enjoy the soaking pool here! Typically, we'll stay a night or two at the hotel, and accessing the soaking pool at Ruby's Spa is included. You can also soak with the purchase of a service in the spa (massage, facial, nails). I find that the services are luxury pricing with slightly less than luxury service, so I skip them. It's a saltwater pool, kept below 101 degrees Fahrenheit. I know because I tested it to see if I was safe to soak while pregnant years ago; yes, I brought my own thermometer! Because that's what scientists do. You can bring in beverages from elsewhere on property but please not glass! The teahouse has yummy options but limited hours. You need a key to get in, and there's two large heated bathrooms to change in. read more

I felt like a phone call would have been courteous because we drove a really long way and the room was 100% uninhabitable and they knew this. I did not receive a spa service, this is only for the soaking pool. They sold a limited number of timed day passes as part of a promotion for the soaking pool. They were $45 for 90 minutes. The building is easy to find and they have plenty of signage directing you where to go. The building is just like the other building on the property. It's old but looks vintage in a good way. They have day lockers and they give you a robe and a towel. The changing rooms are where the lockers are and they only accommodate one person at a time so if you need to get anything while someone is changing you'll have to wait. The pool was warm and around some of the edges there's trees that will protect you from the random rain and hail storms. There's hooks for your robes and towels but they all look the same so they're likely to get mixed up. The only downside to this is that the tea house/bar on-site requires a physical card for purchases. With all of the robes looking the same I wouldn't recommend leaving anything of value in the pockets. It would be nice if they were able to use the card on file with the spa like they do when you check in and check out. read more

We spent a wonderful day at Ruby's Spa. Let me tell you, treat yourself you deserve it. First stop the soak pool. Soaking because it's only three feet deep. You can't really swim. The pool is heated so immediately your are warm. My recommendation is go to the soaking pool them get your massage. Next up was the massage. Our massages were amazing. You can request the styles of massage and the intensity. I thought I wanted a athletic massage. The massage was intense and a little painful. I guess I DONT mind pain All in all it was amazing. read more

I was gifted a one-hour massage for my birthday. I came an hour early to use the soaking pool first as recommended. After check in, changing, and changing again, I had a perfect 30 minutes to ready my muscles for the massage. I would advise bringing your own flip flops. I did not know I needed to, so I just walked around barefoot. I really wish there were seats for people. There were no chairs in the registration office while waiting to check in. There are no chairs anywhere around the very large soaking pool. Some people cannot stand or walk for long distances and need to rest. There is one flavor of hot tea and plenty of magazines in the waiting room so that was good. I am writing this review to give big kudos to my masseuse Jerry! He took so many steps that I have not experienced elsewhere. He really showed his 28 years of experience. Thank you, Edgefield, for hiring him in April! read more

Edgefield is one of my favorite places to go to, I live just 5 min away and love to take my friends and family here. I had a massage done today $135 for an hour. That's without a tip, so yes I would say pricey. The massage was ok. The only thing that I didn't like was the massage lady kept asking me when I feel a knot to tell her and then she would press into that spot and tell me to let her know when it feels better. I mean shouldn't they know? They feel them and then move on to the next. I know for a fact it won't be fixed in that one appointment. Anyways it was a very different experience from all the massages I had outside of Edgefield. 3 stars for massage since I had to keep talking and couldn't relax. Felt like I was part of her job. Nice lady and I loved the facial massage. Just have mixed feelings about the whole thing. 50/50. The pool 5 stars all the way. The soaking pool was the best, they also have showers if you need them. It was raining and very windy outside which made it even better to be in a nice hot soak. I love the lazy river because you can swim or sit and there is enough room for everyone. *the gate was broken and I had to go around the building to ask for a new card twice. The card still didn't work but thank God maintenance was outside and let me into the pool. There is a door to enter from Ruby's spa into the pool but you can't get back in. Very annoying when your stuff is inside and you have to keep walking into the lobby if something doesn't work. Maintenance was looking into it so hopefully they fixed the gate but the "employee only door" wish that was opened for spa quests. read more

Love what the salt water pools do for my hair! The staff is lovely, facials are lifechanging. Book a treatment, but make it a day. I come early and soak for a couple hours, have a treatment, go to lunch on property and then come back and soak again. Lots of options for drinks (with or without alcohol) at the various bars if that's what you're interested in. The pools are warm/hot but not blazing so you can literally spend hours soaking your muscles in this lovely land of peace :) read more

I love McMenamins and everything they have to offer. This review is on the eyebrow waxing. The person who was doing my brows kind of wanted to do what she wanted to do (meaning using the strips when I wanted hard walk) and I almost gave up and let her but I know my skin and how they irritate it. I finally told her that that I wanted what I wanted. I began to wonder if she was going to do the other because she didn't know how to use the hard wax. My eye brows came out okay (thank goodness!). I held my breath thinking, what if she take my eye brow off. I just wish she had been kinder when I asked about the hard wax or explained why she recommended the strips and not, "Everyone else gets strips." I am tempted on taking another star off, but I just can't because everything else is amazing. The vibe as soon as you enter. The serenity of the place. The offer to let you use the soaking pool even for a not so expensive service like eye brow. I still recommend this location. Visiting Ruby's Spa and their glorious soaking pool is one of my favorite things to do at McMenamin's Edgefield. First and foremost, the spa offers a wide variety of services to help you relax and rejuvenate. The staff are highly skilled, compassionate, and extremely accommodating. The soaking pool is my happy place. It's available only for hotel guests and those receiving spa services. In fact, there is a private section of the pool reserved only for spa guests. The pool meanders though a garden full of native and exotic plants, offering little inlets and passageways for more privacy. The water is the perfect temperature, and I always feel amazing after several hours of soaking. There are two private changing rooms in the pool enclosure, as well as the Tea Room bar which serves a full menu of drinks. The pool and spa are located far enough from the hotel and restaurants so as to create an exclusive, quiet and relaxing environment. Children are not permitted in the pool after 8 PM, and the pool closes at 11 PM. read more

The soaking pool was available when purchasing spa services and it was awesome. Then off for a 90 minute auto therapy massage. The aroma therapy was a piece of cotton with essential oil dabbed on it. Nice but....the massage was ok, but not much pressure. Then the 60 minute facial. It was nice. I sprung an extra $25 for each of the following. Bright eye treatment. Not sure what it did the reduce dark circles...but I noticed no difference. Then the lip treatment. No visible difference. Lash tinting...what a joke!!!! Barely tinted my lashes and it faded in 24 hours. Moral of the story, go for a modest price service and enjoy the soaking pool. read more

Tourist trap. Expensive low quality treatments. Gross pool. Kids had diving sticks and were playing Marco Polo. Horrible massage and waxing was really bad. She had to be a beginner. Felt very awkward and wax got misplaced. Tea house bar has never been open once when I'm there. The restaurant has an hour plus wait and for what? The food is greasy and expensive. My best friend and I needed a short relaxing getaway. We booked a room at Mcmenamins with the spa package. We got a double queen room with our own bathroom. (They have community restrooms for room blocks). You also get a $30 credit towards breakfast. With the spa package you get to choose between massages and facials. We got hour long massages and oh my! This was hands down the best massage I've ever had. I didn't pay attention to the time we started but it was definitely closer to the 60min mark and closest I've had to 60 when others advertise 60 and it's 45min. The oil they use is organic and it smelled so yummy I bought some to bring home. My masseuse was wonderful! Listened to my needs and checked in to make sure it was the pressure I was asking for. Afterwards, she asked if I needed her to set me up in the mineral spa. I declined since we had dinner plans but we returned after our evening walk to use the soaking pool. There's a small bar where they have alcohol available. Under 21 aren't allowed after 2000hrs so it is definitely quiet and relaxing. The next morning after breakfast we had pedicures. The lady's were kind and somewhat chatty. I liked the atmosphere of the room but the chairs you sit in aren't the most comfortable. It's a bench along the wall with stairs leading up to it and a fun tub for your feet. It wasn't the best pedicure I've ever had and left me a little disappointed. Next time I'm skipping the pedicure and maybe I'll try the mani Instead. Even if you aren't staying overnight, this place is fantastic to make a relaxing spa day. Book all appointments in advance since they go quickly. Now I understand why! The massage was the wow factor for me and I will be making this a regular thing. read more

This space is very cute. McMenamins spaces are always enchanting. The charm is what carries things the most. So ornate and whimsical. The gift shop is great. And as for the soaking spa, it is very pretty. I have to soak because of my arthritis and I like to make it a relaxing event when I do. I didn't get any services so I can only speak for the spa outside. The temperature is nice. It started raining and that was kinda of funny. I wish they had more spaces for your belongings for if it rained, because the limited space bundles everyone's items too close together, which I feel like can be health hazardous not to have multiple abundant and spread options. The service there was friendly. It must have been a busy day, because when we arrived the clerk was on the phone for a good 7 minutes before we were fully greeted and checked in. The pool has a couple handrails, the pool is quite large and wraps around. Sorry all my commentary is scattered. I'm sharing as I'm revisiting. Collectively was a fairly good experience. I requested no services whatsoever, but I was asked and checked on as if I were, so I appreciate that gesture. I like that there is a shower and locker rooms to change in. The locker rooms are teensy, but these spaces are historical type buildings where the rooms were just a bit different. Like I said, very charming. read more

I have been going to Ruby's Spa for years now. I have no need to ever go anywhere else. I get the deluxe foot massage a couple of times a year and it is truly divine from the scrub to the paraffin! As a bonus you get robes to wear and can soak in the heated soaking pool. I love the soaking pool because it os not open to the public so you have to either be a hotel or spa guest to use it. They also offer a complimentary glass of wine with the foot massage. The only thing I would change would be the seating because the massage area has a bench seat that has a straight back so you can't recline. Sometimes it can be a long wait for appointments so plan ahead. read more

My friend and I booked spa packages so we could unwind and indulge on a day of pampering. This was our first time at Ruby's and we had an absolutely incredible experience! Cassia, Emma, and Heidi made my day such a joy. Cassia gave one of the best facials I've ever had! Each of them were so sweet and kind. We ended our packages with a good long soak and then dinner across the way. I am giving two stars, only because my daughters and their friend got to use the pool and they did have a fun day. My daughter is getting married and I called and booked todays massages and pedicures a couple of months ago. I was not told over the phone that they didn't have gel polish for pedicures or I never would have booked with them. It wasn't a question I even thought to ask, as I have never been to a salon that doesn't offer that. I wanted to make sure the polish would last the 6 days before the wedding. I found out when I asked to include gel, in what I was pre paying for. They asked for a card over the phone and would have charged if we had decided to leave. I asked if they offered disposable flip flops, since the girls weren't prepared for not having gel polish and wore closed toed shoes. My oldest daughter was not offered the flip flops and thought her toes were dry, since she had an hour of sitting there while waiting for the other two to get their pedicures They must have used old, tacky polish that was sticky and it smeared everywhere when she put her socks on. I paid over $700 ( including tip ) and this is not acceptable to me. This is the bride and now she has to go somewhere else to get them fixed. I arrived before my girls did, too pay. I walked in and was immediately shocked at how rude the receptionist was. She acted put out that I had even walked in. When my daughter told me what happened with her polish, she also told me that her nail tech didn't say two words to her and instead was talking and laughing with the person next to her, until the last 10 minutes of the appointment. It's shocking to me still, how poor customer service has gotten. I expect that to be the case, at most places actually, but not when I am paying over $700. Best pedicures I have ever had. I have gone to quite a few other places. Some do not have autoclaves, Ruby' Spa takes sanitation very seriously. Some want you in and out way too fast. At Ruby's Spa I have never felt rushed. The gals are all fabulous, very careful, very good at what they do. My daughter and I go about every 5-6 weeks. It is our "girl time". Me and my mom went here to get pedicures for a girls days, we love Egdefield so we thought this spa would be good quality. Well it's old, crusty, dusty and busted. They have a very tiny selection of nail polishes to choose from. The gals were nice but did not do a good job. We went for the hour pedicure and they left the paint to the last 7 minutes of the appointment. Not only that but they had me put my sandals on before painting my toes??? I was so anxious that polish would spill onto my sandals, they also had a higher edge so she kept wanting me to stick my toes out to reach them with the brush. It was ridiculous. The painting job was rough and messy and I genuinely know 5 year olds with more hand eye coordination. They didn't put a top coat of polish on my moms toes at all, so her big toes were completely messed up by the time we were getting into the car. To top it all off the smell of the scrub they used was absolutely sickening, it gave me a horrible headache from the chemical smell. And all this for $75 plus tip?? Not worth it at all. Luxury Spa?? This place is amazing! My bf and I had our couple's message session at Ruby's Spa for our birthdays. Also included in the spa service was to use their hot water soaking pool. It was beautiful as if you're on vacation or a getaway. We love this Edgefield resort. After our nice spa session, we walked over to the outdoor seating pub, put our name on the 45 minute waiting list and walked over to the wine tasting cellar while waiting for our table. We did the wine tasting flights and they give you a decent amount of each. They had live music inside. It was such an amazing experience. Their burgers are super delicious. You can just escape Portland for a day and spend your getaway here! Would love to come back! read more

Love McMenamins and the soaking pool, but will pass on the pedicures next time. This was my first time visiting the spa for a service. I was booked for an express pedicure ($50). Upon check in, they said payment is due before service, which was off putting but I could understand maybe people slip out the back to the pool without paying. What bothered me though was being prompted to tip prior to the service. The pedicure bench and foot bowl are stationary so it wasn't ideal for my tall frame (I'm used to being able to lean back or scoot the chair back). The lady doing the pedicure was nice, but scoffed when I said I had gel on my toes. She told me about the $10 up charge and then left to let the front desk know. She came back and said because I didn't have a card on file that I would need to pay on my way out. Then she applied a remover gel that took several applications to get the gel to lift (I'm used to cotton pads with acetone wrapped in foil). I guess this cut in to my time allotment because the rest of my pedicure felt rushed. My toenails were trimmed in haste, and I watched as my friend got a several minute leg massage, but my lady applied lotion to my legs and went straight to the polish. With a pre-paid tip plus the $10 unexpected gel removal fee, I ended up paying almost $70 for a pedicure that I can't say I enjoyed. read more

Wish it never ended!!!! Best decision of my life! My sisters and I took our mother to Ruby's Spa for an early Mother's Day gift. Lets just say she loved it and was glowing with happiness at the end! I can only speak for my experience so here goes... Reception was great! Super nice and formal. Greeted us as soon as we walked through the doors and took us right in to the locker rooms! My masseuse was amazing, wish I could of remembered her name.. But she was very attentive and caring. My first massage ever and it did not disappoint. I never knew I needed a head massage so much lol. Off to facials and it was amazing! My esthetician was everything!!! She took really good care of my skin and informed me about my skin. Recently my skin has been all over the place.. My guess from a product I was trying out I had gotten an allergic reaction to... So here I am with raised red bumps all over my face to a few acne spots! She just soothed my skin and gave it some TLC! Just overall my esthetician was informative and caring! I cannot wait to come back to get a facial! Next stop pedicures! My technician Elise I believe was wonderful! Very nice and talkative! The technician my mom had was super awesome as well! I had done a tour of McMenamins Edgefield when I was attending a hospitality program many years ago. I really loved the feel of the place and fell in love with the Ruby Spa. I filed the memory away with intentions of coming back to stay to soak in this lovely spot. Well, as life would have it, many things have taken priority, and I didn't get around to visiting. I happen to meet friends for happy hour at a Portland restaurant, and the waitress mentioned how she stayed at the Edgefield and couldn't recommend it enough, especially the spa! I'm so glad she reminded me of this place! I made a reservation to stay overnight. One of the perks of being an overnight guest is the free use of the Ruby Spa soaking pool. It's a salt water soaking pool without the harsh chlorine. It's a beautiful oasis that many people can be in, but is shaped in such a way that allows some privacy and you feel like you're the only ones in the area. There's a little tea house bar that you can order from, but since we had dined earlier, I didn't check it out. We were provided terry cloth robes in our room for use to the spa. I brought my ex with me as my guest, and he's never been one for soaking in hot tubs. He wasn't prepared for the awesomeness of the Ruby Spa. He enjoyed himself so much that he wished we had stayed 2 nights! We went to soak the night before, it was overcast, but occasionally the clouds would part and stars were visible. Then we went the next morning...it was all misty with a light drizzle. So very awesome! Don't let life pass you by without stopping to enjoy the luxuries that can be found around the corner! My first time here was great! My spa hostess was amazing and I really enjoyed my treatment. She is the reason for the 3 star rating not being a 1 star rating because the second time I came in the staff wasn't anywhere near as great. Hopefully if I ever come back again I can specifically request who Id like to see. It would be great if the lockers that are offered to the spa clients were accessible the entire time the soaking pools are open. I wasn't told by the staff that the doors would be locked and I would get locked out of the locker area. Another spa client told me while I was in the soaking pool and advised me that I only had about 5 minutes to get my belongings before the spa closed for the night. The high price of the spa treatments are only worth it if you also intend to use the soaking pools. read more

Everything was awful, starting with trying to find the spa itself. I use a rollator, and after dragging the thing up the stairs to the lobby door (which the spa receptionist said was the correct door), I encountered a sign advising that there was a handicapped accessible door in the back of the building. Too late for me because I had already dragged myself up the stairs. WTF? A nice guide took me to the spa, a 10 minute trek that included about 15 changes in direction. No way anyone could say 'It's down that hall, turn left at the palm tree.'' I got there and saw a handicap only parking space right in front of the spa. Now, on to the soaking pool: I asked where it was and was directed to the door marked exit. Yep, there it was, only the gate to the pool was locked. I called the spa on my phone and asked for help. A nice guest let me in, and I never saw anyone come out the back door to help me. I didn't see a shower (looked at all the doors )when I was done soaking (far too hot to be comfortable) so I got dressed, and went to the waiting room. I asked if indeed there were showers, and the receptionist (That's you, Reilly) said they are in the room marked 'rest room" (or some synonym, can't recall). Maybe the door could have said 'showers and rest room." Nah, that would make too much sense. On to the pedicure. The pedicurist was a real sweetheart, the first person who'd treated me nicely, so I tipped her accordingly. A week later the pedicure had gone to hell, but maybe that's my fault for walking around. read more

Man... I am RELAXED right now. I'm so incredibly relaxed, that I can't even think straight. Why, you may ask? Well, I had a little visit to Ruby's spa today and had another fantastic massage provided by the excellent Edwin. I've visited this spa for massages a few times now, and every time has been awesome. First and foremost, my massage therapist, Edwin, is the FUCKING BEST. Seriously. I've had massages by a number of different therapists, and none of them have killed it like he does. Every time my wife and I book massages, I request him. He's just awesome at what he does. Fact. The environment at Ruby's is super chill. If you're coming here for a massage, I would highly recommend that you soak in the soaking pool out back beforehand, as it loosens up your muscles and relaxes you prior to getting the work done. I did this last time, but not the time before that, and the difference is huge. Also, definitely worth it to soak after! I figured that would go without saying, but Edwin had mentioned that not everybody does. Strange. I really love the soaking pool here. Especially during fall & spring, when it's kinda cold out (but not too cold), as the steam completely envelopes the pool which obscures nearby soakers, creating the illusion of having the pool to yourself. :) I could spend hours in that pool... and I have! Not only that, but they have a bar right next to it! Pretty sweet... One tip: if you're a beer drinker, go grab one at Lucky's before you head over to the soaking pool, and make sure you ask for a plastic cup! They don't allow glass, for good reason, in the soaking pool, and their beer options are very limited at the Tea Bar. read more

This review is based on a mani/pedi. I have not had a massage or other services here. I had a mani/pedi appointment mid week mid day. It was suggested to me when I made the appointment that I use the soaking pool before rather than after so as not to ruin my toenail polish. No gel on toes? Nope, not offered here. The soaking pool is wonderful but I did not realize that the tea house/bar would not be open at that time of day and so I was not able to order up refreshments for the soak. Would have been nice to know that! My nail tech was a nice person and I think she is doing the best she can with what is there to work with but there is a lot that is not on the table here and for a much higher price than any nail salon I have ever been to. I paid $120 for a VERY BASIC mani/pedi-gel on hands and regular polish on toes. My resulting nails are not very glossy and one of my toenails is cut so crooked it's comical. My cuticles and callouses were largely ignored. No massage chair, no hot stone, no paraffin, was there a sugar scrub? It was pretty sparse. I got so much less than what you get at most any nail salon. I am used to going to a nail place where for $70 I get a DELUXE mani/pedi with gel on both, including gel removal, sugar scrub, hot stone massage, paraffin, clay mask, massage chair, detailed cuticle work, more effort on removing callouses, at least 5 times larger selection of polish colors brands options and add ons (glow in the dark, mood changing, metallic foil, gel on toes options all at very little cost to add on and no charge to remove gel) In all, I feel it is a good place to go for the soak experience if you go when the tea house is open (wish I had known!) You are paying resort prices here so I guess don't try and compare the value but I had hoped to make this my new place to go and I would be a regular. The value and result though is just too vastly different. I didn't even ask what the cost would be for deluxe and that still wouldn't have included a massage chair and you know what? Massage chairs are amazing. There is a reason almost all nail salons have massage chairs. They do give you a nice glass of wine. The thing is, I can buy my own glass of wine. This was not like having a manicure but more of a polish change with a little bit of massage and nail shaping with a price tag big enough that I can't justify doing this on a regular basis. $140 with tip. ouch read more

The speaking pool at Ruby's spa is the best part of Edgefield. A warm outdoor soaking pool with a small bar attached can cure a lot of problems. Kids are welcome until 8. Even if you aren't staying at the hotel, pool admission is complementary with a treatment at the spa. Massage is a great addition to any hotel stay. read more

Wonderful experience every time I go. The people are so nice. Everything about this place is peaceful! I really love the mineral heated pool. And they have a bar next to the pool so you can get drinks. read more
