Introduction:
I arrived at 1:22 P.M and was promptly greeted upon entering. It was quite busy when I arrived, though, there were still a few open seats and tables. The employees were amiable and helpful in making my decision of what to order. There was less of a selection of pastries by the time I arrived, thus I suggest going as early as possible to have the best and most fresh selection of pastries to choose from.
My Order:
I decided to order a 6oz cappuccino, a chocolate croissant ("Pain au Chocolat" for my Francophile friends out there), and their "Egg Sandwich" consisting of an "over medium egg, bacon, and melted cheese on a brioche bun" according to their menu.
Environment:
The establishment is nice, both inside and out. Inside it was clean, the walls are white, there are various artworks displayed on the walls for sale, a large display area for the pastries, and a large glass window that makes the kitchen clearly visible for all. There was also a pretty yellow-orange neon sign with the name of the establishment that was inside and some music playing in the background.
Food/Drink:
The coffee, chocolate croissant and egg sandwich were excellent. Each item was perfectly executed.
The cappuccino (6oz, also available in 8oz) was served in a clear, glass coffee cup on a white plate. It tastes excellent and it was nicely presented having the standard cappuccino foam art on top. I have no complaints whatsoever.
The Chocolate Croissant was enormous. It was larger than my fist. It was nice and flaky on the outside, had a good crunch and was deliciously buttery. The inside was soft and airy and the chocolate tasted fantastic. This was a perfectly executed croissant.
The Egg Sandwich was absolutely divine. The cheese tasted like mozzarella and the bun was particularly notable, it had a fine pastry quality and was like a soft croissant. The egg (over medium) and the bacon were cooked perfectly and the egg was lightly salted. Great attention to detail. However, the sandwich could use some more color. I would have liked to have seen some sort of green leafy green in it such as arugula. The only other minor detail I must point out is that the sandwich was a bit too oily. Other than these two very minor details, the sandwich was exceptional and I would certainly order it again.
Service:
The service was great, the employees were kind and helpful in helping me decide what to order as I mentioned above. I received my chocolate croissant immediately, the cappuccino only a few minutes after ordering and my sandwich only six minutes after ordering. To be sure, the service was expedient and pleasant.
Cost:
The total cost of my order came out to about $21. Prices are reasonable.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Excellent service
Kind employees
Quick
Food/drink was outstanding
Interior was lovely
Artwork displayed
Clean
Music in the background
Cons:
Slightly loud. Not that big of a deal. Much of it was due to the other customers' conversations, so there's not much the employees could do about it anyway.
Sandwich could have used a bit more color. Maybe some arugula. Also a bit too oily. (very minor)
Ordering Tips:
Ask to have pastry warmed up if so desired. I'm sure they would oblige your request.
Verdict:
Overall, my experience at Ruby's Bakery and Cafe was excellent. I definitely recommend this establishment to others and would certainly return. This is the finest bakery/cafe I have found so far. Well done. I'm impressed. read more
