Amazing cocktail bar located inside a beautiful historic townhouse. The atmosphere was perfect, chill, sophisticated, cool vibe. We knew it was a popular bar so we went Friday evening, when it had just opened. As there were not many people, we got space at the bar near a window overlooking the street. Stunning views outside as night fell. I personally love to sit at the bar because you have front row seats to see all the action while they prepare the drinks. The mixologists were friendly, they recommended drinks according to our tastes and preferences, I must say they were pretty accurate. We had such a good time that I forgot to take pictures of the cocktails. Definitely a place I recommend for a chill night if you are in the city. read more

This was my first time in Ruby, my partners third or fourth. Vibes and service was great, much more attentive than I ever thought was possible at a bar. Drinks were delicious, the soul reason I'm handing 3 stars is that I had 5 to 6 drinks. And I wasn't even tipsy. I was pretty close to going to bar and watching them make the drink to see if they were forgetting the alcohol:'). We were soooo confused, everyone in my party. Now i'm not a drunk, I'm a 5'7 woman, it literally takes one standard drink to get me buzzed! I should've been plastered. Each new drink I thought would work better, but it never happened. The cocktails were phenomenal and we really enjoyed the ambiance. The staff were all very friendly. We asked for other recommendations in the area and they gave us a card with a QR code. Although that is efficient, it was very off putting to us. I understand they get asked for recommendations a lot and that is a simple way to do it, we much prefer a more personal recommendation. We chose not to go to any of the places on the list from the QR code because we thought that was lazy and impersonal. The prices are much more expensive than what we are used to in the states but definitely on par for craft cocktail prices in Copenhagen. The staff were attentive, and we managed to order like 3 rounds of drinks within an hour and a half. Some drinks, like the aperol one, were fantastic. Others were merely good. Through the doors in an 1854 entrance along the canal is a speakeasy worth your time. My buddy and I went on a Saturday evening in October. Here's our experience: 1) Cocktails: They have a full menu with a wide range of cocktails. Since I enjoy sweeter drinks, I ordered the frozen passionfruit margarita and it easily ranks as the best margarite I've ever had. It's expensive, but worth every cent. 2) Space: It's in an old building and the inside is classy. There's a large outdoor patio with heaters that keep you warm (or in our case, very hot!). 3) Service: This is the only area they didn't shine. Although friendly, they were busy and didn't manage it well. We waited to be noticed for twenty minutes once we walked in. It took a long time to order, get and receive our check. Excellent date spot and a popular bar with locals and expats. Expect delicious artisanal cocktails and only 3 mock-tails to choose from but they are all Very different in taste. Ruby is a very popular spot, especially during weekends and there is always a line outside towards later evening. There is a smoking area just down a flight of stairs that leads to an enclosed outdoor space. The cigarette smoke does permeate throughout the small space so be aware. read more

Ruby is a very good bar and I hope to revisit on my next visit to copenhagen. It's classy and has a great vibe and the cocktails are well crafted and super tasty. It gets busy, so you know. Try to sit in one of the top floor rooms. We were moved downstairs and while it is still a nice environment we felt a little disconnected from the bar area. Great place, give it a go. Ruby is a sister bar to Lidkoeb (perhaps the more refined older sibling). On our visit, we scored seats by the window looking toward Christiansborg Palace. We stayed for two rounds of very well made cocktails. The vibe is that of a converted older home. Ruby opened in 2007, so unless Denmark is vastly ahead of the US when it comes to drink trends, I'd guess it was an early arrival to Copenhagen's craft cocktail scene. My husband and I dropped in for a round on our last night in Copenhagen. We'd gone to Brønnum, a newer sister bar to Ruby, the night before. I wonder if Ruby has stayed the same while the cocktail scene has gotten stronger. We enjoyed the place, but weren't particularly impressed. We went on a Tuesday night after dinner, at around 11:30. The bar was pretty quiet, so we were able to walk in without hassle. The space was lovely, charmingly decorated, with the feel of a cozy, lived-in mansion. We sat outdoors, on a patio decked out with lounge furniture. It was all very comfortable and relaxing. Service was good--we were able to order our drinks from our table. There was a robust cocktail menu, complete with paragraph-long descriptions of every house creation. They all sounded delightful, but we settled on the Corny Curd and the 866. The Corny Curd was a mix of white port and Noilly Prat vermouth infused with roasted spelt, shaken with Ruby's own lemon curd. This was a solid cocktail, if not especially memorable. It came with a little snack bite of lemon curd on a cracker. The 866 was made with Campari, pink grapefruit juice, and dill aquavit, served with a salt rim. It wasn't good--just blunt and bitter, with nothing else going on. We had a nice time at Ruby. The space was pleasant, and I'm always happy to visit the noteworthy bars in any given city. The cocktails were just kind of disappointing. We might have been better off going back to Brønnum. read more

There's a reason why Copenhagen is ranked #1 city with the most happiest people. Their cocktails here are ahhh-ma-zing! Ruby is exactly the type of place I love stumbling across when I'm traveling. An almost secret location, a welcoming posh space and passionate barkeepers. The bow tied barman in his 3 piece suit comes over and starts the friendly banter. He'll get to know your needs, your wants and appropriately fulfill each one. Cocktails here are of the highest caliber. Fresh squeezed juices, house made bitters, premium alcohol and even a well curated spirit cabinet. I'm impressed. Cocktails are well balanced, exquisitely made and just plain ahhh-ma-zing! (yes, it's worth repeating) Of course the drinks are expensive. I could've gotten a 6 course meal at a fancy Michelin star restaurant in San Francisco for our bar tab. With that said, I'd happily come back and do it all over again. You just can't put a price tag on happiness. Skal! read more

This cocktail bar is fantastic. The space is posh and cozy with many nooks for seating. The ambiance is fun was just the right amount of crowded on the Saturday night that I visited it. The bartenders craft exquisite drinks and do so with an extraordinarily friendly demeanor. Not at all what I would have expected for hipster to the max dudes at a place with the equivalent of $18 cocktails. It is just quiet enough for two people to have a great conversation and to hear each other well. My boyfriend and I tried four different cocktails and each of our drinks was perfect. I highly recommend the St. Germain sour, garnished with shaved licorice, which is what our bartender recommended when my boyfriend asked for a St. Germain-based drink. For those who are hitting up Ruby while it's still Winter 2014/2015, I recommend the "Nutty Professor" (obvi I had to order this), which appears to be a seasonal cocktail. Johnnie Walker Double Black and Drambuie? Yes, please. Why only four stars? Probably because it would be a pain if one arrived here during a popular time and couldn't snag a seat. The boyfriend and I were lucky and after we did a one-through to find downstairs seating, we found two seats together back at the main bar. After we finished our first round of drinks he went on a scouting mission to see if any seats downstairs had opened up, but none had. By the time we were finished there were probably twenty people standing in the open area in between the entrance and the main bar. Perhaps these people were enjoying standing with their drinks, but I know that if I came here with the intention of having a cozy chat over drinks, I would be annoyed if we couldn't find seats. Dang, I went to other bars and I was still thinking about this cocktail. That's how you know they're on their ish. Super impressed. The service could of been better, seeing that couples get served much quicker than solo individuals, which is not a good look. They redeemed themselves...I go to the bathroom and through a speaker in the ceiling they have Eddie Murphy's 'Delirious' standup audio playing. I came in at the right time because as I'm doing my thing, the ice cream man stand up comes on. Straight up dying. Came to Ruby on the recommendation from another bartender. Lucky for us, they were having a private party upstairs so only the downstairs was open, which its usually not on Wednesday nights. It's a dark, romantic bar as evidenced by the incredible number of couples making out aggressively. You go Copenhagen. Frederick took great care of us and the drinks were top notch. We were lucky enough to move to seats in the Vault room which is incredibly special. The bar is in an old bank and there basement vault was turned into a sitting room with lit shelves full of alcohol bottles. Ruby was a great introduction to the fantastic craft cocktail scene in Copenhagen. Each of the 3 cocktails I had tasted distinctly different and were delicious. Plus, Dan is awesome and I was impressed with his ability to make a great cocktail, quickly. That is usually not the case. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. I could have easily stayed here longer and had a few more cocktails. There are different areas within the bar to enjoy your libations. I had a couple in a booth with new friends and finished at the bar while getting great recommendations for other spots to check out in the city. I had heard Ruby was the place to go to for a great cocktail in Copenhagen, but it was not until I was there that I was told they were ranked as the 34th best bar in the world last year. I've been to a handful of the other bars on that top 50 list some of them were great and others were not. Ruby is one of the great ones and is definitely a must stop. In fact, there is no question that if i lived in Copenhagen, I would stop by here regularly. read more

Ruby is one of those places that almost every front of house server at every restaurant recommended. I dont often drink in the mid afternoon but hey I was on vacation, and it was on the way back before dinner. In fact we showed up too early. We encountered the crew in in their casual street clothes and they said we should come back in 20 minutes. so we walked back out strolled around and then headed right back. If you didnt know the place was here you'd definitely miss it. Like any other house front here it's very plainly mark and it's in a subtle space. We walked right in to find the bartenders now in proper attire and plopped ourselves at the bar. We then proceeded to go through a number of cocktails from the seasonal menu. As we started talking spirits in depth our bartender Nicholas produced the classics menu and we drank some more. Time moves really quick when you're boozing and having fun. Nicholas then gave us a tour of the bar, the mid lounge, the patio, the downstairs speakeasy room. He had mentioned a few years back there was a crazy bad flood and it soaked the bottom room. They've done a wonderful job restoring it as I would have never known. In looking at the spirits in the cabinet they have some hard to find spirits like Ardbeg Supernova which are practically ghosts to track down. Nicholas took great care of us and then gave us many other options to drink around town. Like the food world if you are into well crafted drinks like they are, it's a great way to get into a good conversation. If I only had more time to return and drink some more. Fantastic little cocktail bar we were lucky enough to snag a seat at. This place is generally very busy so if you have a group call for a reservation or go on a slow night. Atmosphere is very much like a nice library or a gentlemans club and the rest of the atmosphere matches this. I kicked of with Le Chic which came with some sour cream, salmon caviar and aged cheese slice on top. The drink was the right kind of dry for me and I found it delicious to have some caviar sour cream mix on the side to balance rich and dry flavors. Then I got the Pisco Sour which was also quite excellent. Very much like a lemon drop and a sour mixed in a delicious way. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town! read more

Came here with a friend for drinks on a Tuesday night. Almost missed the entrance - there's no sign indicating that it was Ruby, just a discreet "No 10" above the door. Really nice decor with cosy lighting, and fantastic drinks! We got the seasonal cocktails, desert rose, green bees and open sesame, and a ruby cocktail, the untitled orange. They were great! The background music was at the appropriate volume, not too loud that we couldn't hear each other. We were seated at the table farthest from the bar, right next to the bathroom. It was a bad position as people kept walking past me and opening the door, and I could smell the bathroom! Also, the service was quite poor - my friend and I spent 10 mins trying to get the waiter's attention before giving up and going to the bar to order. And this happened twice! The waiter was rather impatient with us when we were paying the bill too, kept giving us a disdainful look. Overall, I was quite disappointed - the quality of drinks was the only redeeming feature of the lounge :-( read more

Copenhagen, what a place to be. This bar looks like it's a place outside of time. I think the tough part is to find the entrance, its really sneaky. As long as you look for the bouncers in the front then you should know exactly where it is. This reminds me of a place in New York City called Please Don't Tell. This place is a little bigger but the concept is the same. You have these great mixologists creating drinks from a whole assortment of ingredients. It is like a classic speakeasy here. Granted it is pricey but the atmosphere is amazing. It almost feels like you've gone back in time and hey the drinks came with you. Ruby is just about the epitome of what a cocktail bar should be. I found the decor- unquestionably a throwback to earlier days in its smooth wood and plush upholstery and impeccably-dressed bartenders- to be utterly charming from the moment I stepped in the door [though I'm glad I'd made certain of the address, as there is no sign to advertise the location]. I could [did, seriously] wish that there were a way to keep the front room warmer. I kept my jacket on throughout my stay and still left slightly earlier than I would have otherwise simply because I was still too cold to be comfortable and a third chilled drink would not have helped. I was also in need of dinner and while they offer bar snacks, I could wish they had slightly more substantial food as well. The waiters vary in levels of talkativeness- I will not say friendliness because they all were, but my first was a man of few words which can be a bit of a disappointment to me. He mixed an unutterably interesting Cynar Spritz, however, and i got a great deal of mileage out of just examining the flavor notes of the thing and nibbling a bowl of fabulous olives. My second waiter engaged in cheerful conversation- which is more my speed- and is directly responsible for my recent purchase of mighty fancy bitters for my own bar after a lengthy conversation on the topic and a napkin dotted with various flavors from the cabinet for me to smell. He, in turn, made me an excellent Meadow Mist [I have got to find a good place to get fresh sorrel] that was overall less complicated, but deliciously refreshing. If I lived in Kobenavn, the place would be a semi-regular treat for myself, though not a spot I lingered routinely, as the prices are- while not unreasonable- certainly not inexpensive. I do acknowledge, however, that very little in the city is inexpensive, so perhaps if I lived and worked there, my opinion on what was truly affordable might change. read more
