The 'secret' cocktail bar that really does not seem to be a secret as you have to be lucky to get a seat even on week nights. Just look for the number 10 on Nybrogade and push open what looks like an apartment door and you will walk into the stylish but cosy cocktail bar. The staff is very knowledgeable about the drinks and during the week you usually get excellent and friendly service. Ruby was last on my Copenhagen bucket list, because I had heard so many good things about it. I went once on a Saturday night around 8PM and there was no more seating available so I ended up going somewhere else. I then made reservations for a Monday night at 10PM, and was promptly seated. So just based on that experience I would definitely make reservations if going on a weekend night. And to be safe, it'd probably be better to make reservations on weekdays too, because Ruby was surprisingly full when I came on a Monday. Protip: the place can be a little hard to find. It's an unmarked entrance that kind of just looks like a regular entrance to an apartment building. To the right there will be a door that says Ruby on the window, and that's how you know you're in the right place. The first thing I noticed about this place was the ambience--it kind of struck me as the type of place that a successful 1920s businessman goes to smoke cigarettes and casually sip on expensive cocktails. Which isn't a bad thing, of course, but when you're a 21 year old poor college student the environment can seem a bit stuffy and exclusive. So I personally wasn't a fan of that, but I can see how this place would appeal to the right demographic of people. Despite that, the service was impeccable. The server made me and my friend feel very welcome and was very forthcoming about recommendations. The prices were your standard Copenhagen fare, think 100-115 kr for a cocktail. The menu isn't super extensive, maybe about 10-15 options for cocktails. I ended up trying the Zabag Lione seasonal cocktail, the Diplomat, and the Untitled Orange. The Zabag Lione was a little strong for my tastes, but I really enjoyed the creaminess. The Untitled Orange would be good for anyone who prefers really sweet cocktails (like myself), you know, the standard "girly drinks". My favorite was the diplomat. It was really champagney, and very light but deceivingly strong. (Then again, the cocktails here are pretty strong in general) Overall, the drinks weren't my favorite cocktails in Copenhagen, but they were reasonably priced and I had a good time. read more

Yelp directed us to Ruby while on vacation in Copenhagen and boy was I in love! This lounge/bar feels like you're hanging out in someone's cozy living room, but with an unpretentious swanky and classy vibe. I ordered the El Diablo, which is like a spicy - ginger margarita. The lighting is really low and sexy with candles everywhere and great lounge chairs and couches to relax in. Micheal, our adorable server, was fantastic! He was extremely friendly and talkative. He even walked us outside when we were leaving to point us in the right direction of our next destination and drew us a map if we got lost. What a sweet guy! I would give him 1 hundred stars if I could. My only complaint is the price. In Danish Khrone, this might be average or on the upscale side and absolutely worth it, but when converting it to the weak US Dollar, we spent a small fortune. Check this place out!!! Probably my favourite bar so far in the fine city of Copenhagen. Drinks are absolutely delicious- the people here know their stuff! The ambience is cool and chill - like walking into someone's home (albeit a well stocked home). What struck me most here was the range of clients- all (legal drinking) ages, styles, backgrounds just coming together to enjoy some very very fine cocktails. Also the staff are always so friendly, which makes a massive difference when going to a pricey cocktail bar. Also they automatically bring a glass of water which is always a plus. First thing I noticed when I walked in - damn, those bartenders are cute! Same story every other time I`ve been there. With those faces and smile, they could sell anything to me :D Haha. It`s a fabulous bar hidden on Nybrogade. The interior is spot on and matches with the selection of music, drinks ambiance. Service is extremely polite, you get noticed even before opening the door (I exaggerate a bit, but that is how it feels like). Once you sit down, the cute bartender has already arrived at your table with glasses of iced -water (how wonderful is that?). Yes, cocktails can take a while to prepare as they really do it with care and love. But just sip on your water meanwhile. Drinks are just fine, I am not very much into cocktails, but all that I have tried have been satisfying and creative. + They also have a variety of other drinks like GT and so on. But what I love the most is their "smokers terrace". It must be the coziest and nicest spot designed for smokers in Copenhagen. There are blankets and heat lamps, nice decorations, music... so you don`t feel like being isolated from the niceness of the place just because you have a nasty habit :D Yup, it is not cheap. A drink will cost you 100 dkk or more... But hey,once in a while all of us need some fancy kick off for the night and this is surely a good start. read more

Welcome to your second living room. This place will not only serve you high quality drinks, they will also provide them in a cozy living room, along with great service. The biggest issue is to find the entrance, because there is not any big flashy neon light showing the way. And when you finally managed to locate the right door, it looks like you are about to enter an apartment or so, but dont be shy, just make your way in. You can hopefully get seated if you are lucky and there are any spots left. But it can be a good thing to book in advance since its quite popular. You can either go for a regular table, or the whole area downstairs for a bigger party or event. I can assure you that downstairs will add another dimension to the experience. This place will definitely be an addition to your often "very regular" night out, go here and enjoy a couple of drinks! read more

This is an awesome bar! I had "The Diplomat" and it was incredibly tasty and dry. The place feels like a beautifully restored home which has a bar and the host was throwing a big party. It gets really crowded though and when I went to this bar on my own, it was a bit awkward b/c most folks came with a bunch of friends and stuck to talking to their friends. Its always a bit awkward to go to a bar alone. Sometimes a hit or miss. This night was definitely a miss in the social scale. Perhaps another time I'm in Copenhagen, I'll drop by again for a yummy drink. Nice bartenders, hostesses, and bouncer though. We had a reservation which was a good call. The cocktails are superb just a bit underwhelming when compared to other top cocktail bars I've been to. The look of Ruby is really cozy and well decorated. In terms of the drink menu, nothing really jumped out at me while I was reading it that screamed "this is cool and innovative. try me!!" They were all kinda simple in terms of what I'm used to at this ~sorta~ establishment. That said, the drinks were expertly done and the bartender was really chill and friendly. This is a fine place to go, I just wasn't blown away by creativity. Maybe my expectations for creativity were misleading though, because what they do is elevated simple drinks done well. read more

I probably won't write a lot of reviews about cocktail bars , but I really felt the need to spread the message about this one. Its set in an old high ceiling building, very comfortable and stylish furniture. Me and colleague went with a group of Austrian tourism execs whom we met at our hotel lobby. All of them dressed in traditional Austrian dress...in Copenhagen. So all the stars where aligned for a great evening. Try to sit on the heated patio in the back. The patio has very comfortable benches where different groups can sit together, so groups mingle. Service was great as well. An Asian lady who's originally from Vancouver can choose your cocktail based on how you feel. She's a blast and full of energy. read more

We heard about this bar from a friend and by reading the World's Top 50 Bars list... So it couldn't be too wrong, right? We walked from our hotel and found the building. There was a doorman keeping an eye out on the small line forming in front of him. We stood there for about 10 minutes before we came into the main living room. It was literally a living room! Lots of fun furniture and lighting and a lively group of patrons. We ordered some drinks off the menu and stood for a few minutes until a little window seating area opened up. Drinks were good, but honestly not THAT good. I've had better in Stockholm, for example at Miss Voon or Farang. Even the Old Fashioned I wanted for round 2 wasn't that good - they used small ice cubes which diluted the drink way too fast. I make better (and prettier) ones. However, they were unique and won't be found anywhere else in the world. You could tell that there was a lot of love behind each creation. Minus 1 star for mediocre drinks. Ruby was a cute little bar in what looks like and older home converted in to a bar. Instead of opening it up they've created intimate seating areas in the different rooms giving each seating area it's own privacy. The drinks were fantastic, although not cheap. The only downside was that it took about 20 mins or so to get a drink once we ordered. BUT they quickly made it up by offering to give us a drink for free. Very nice people working. Not really my type of place, but I can't criticise it at all. If you like super swanky top of the range cocktails bars then this is gonna be your type of place. Full of people dressed up to the max. It is a place with dark lighting and an eclectic range of unusual cocktails and expensive pricing to match. It's all styled like an American 1920's bar with plenty of bootlegged alcohol. Think boardwalk empire tv show for the scene. As I say not something that I loved, as I prefer a more relaxed less formal set up, but I am sure others will love it. I fell in love when I stepped into this place for the very first time. A little bit subdued on the front - we didn't even know if we had arrived at the right place, the ambience and the mood. We had always been lucky to get to sit in the cozy basement on the corner where it's perfect to have a little chat with friends or just to sip your favourite drink. Waiters were unbelievably friendly and nice, something that is quite rare in the usual rude Copenhagen customer service, so that was already a plus although the big minus would be the cocktail price that could make you a couple of hundred crowns poor by the end of the night. But then again, cocktails in Copenhagen are frustratingly expensive, so it's really not a surprise that Ruby charge that exorbitant price for the added experience at their bar. I love to go to this place, but I have to make sure that I have some money to burn in my bank account ;) read more

Ruby's was just opened by K Bar's Adeline (and her cool dude Rasmus) a few weeks ago, so you won't find anything online and they will never do any promotion (they don't need to) Ruby's is located in Nybrogade, a tranquil canal right off the main strip and 2 min's walk from both Torget and Kongens Nytorv, where you'll most likely end up if you ever visit København. The bar is in, and feels like, somebody's appartment. Tall ceilings and windows, old cornecing and comfy sofas are mixed with modern furniture, red velvets and other contrasting materials. My favourite bits 1/the raunchiest and rudest moments of RAW are playing on a loop in the loo; watch people coming back to their seats laughing their heads off. I've been to Ruby a lot. It just seems like the obvious place to go for great cocktails. People are happy, the atmosphere is relaxed. It can seem a bit crowdy at times, but the waiters and the bartenders do their best to serve fast yet retain their high quality. I was in Copenhagen on a layover and decided to check this place out... Rated one of the best bars in the world, and lived up to it! The ambiance is very chill, yet classy. The bartenders are true mixologists, whatever you are in the mood for, they can make! The pictures of the place speak a thousand words. The bar is 2 floors and gets packed very easily. Trying to get a seat isn't much of a challenge if you know where to look. The service is amazing for the volume of drinks the bartenders have to put out so tip well! We came to visit copenhagen for a weekend and only found this bar because of its qype entry. From the outside you wouldn't know that this is a bar as it looks like a normal appartment. We needed to wait some time to get in, but waiting was really worth it. After entering you can't help but feeling like you're visiting the party of a very cool friend of yours, it's so chilled and stylish. Great Cocktails! Prices justified for the quality and the great staff! BIG BUT: the "comedy tapes" in the bathroom are very dehumanising and antagonising against women. Now I am not easily offended - not at all - but a whiny male comedian going on about how women are "like toilets, either dirty or disabled" and that they are "all" bad in bed and guys are just too nice to tell them, that he tries to please them but they never put effort into it, etc... all things which one can clearly see that the problem lies with the "comedian" (who is just a whiny bitch), than with the women... I know there is a time and place for dark and even potentially offensive humour, for example when it comes from a place of pain that helps the comedian to heal, but this cringeworthy case of stupidity and blind blaming I find hurtful on a basic human level. I talked with the manager about it, and he was nonchalant about it and said it is part of their DNA. If you feel that it should be discouraged to spread messages of hate, I would ask myself twice before visiting the place. Again, I am against being "easily offended" but the quotes above I personally find go to far. Use your own judgement. read more

This bar is like walking into someone's home. If that someone lived in a gorgeous town house with high ceilings, wall mouldings, expensive oriental rugs and chandeliers, and had an impeccable taste in jazz music. The coolness of the place is demonstrated by an entrance so unassuming, that I walked past the place three times on my last visit before stumbling upon the door. Which was right where I left it the time before, of course... I once had a drink here that contained their own liquorice root infused tequila, and to this date it's the best cocktail I've ever had! It was probably a seasonal specialty, as I can't find it on their menu anymore, but nothing else in here has failed me either. I even discovered a love for Martinis (shaken, not stirred) here; I HATE gin, but somehow I downed two of those puppies like they were water! An outside patio at the back with a sofa to sink into, and a very unexpected recording playing in the toilet make you stay seated in both places for longer than you probably should. So you might as well order the next thing on the menu while you're at it! It's certainly not cheap, but there's something about this Ruby that makes it worth every penny! read more

Ever heard of places where they put 'reserved' signs on the tables just to fake popularity? This place might just be such a place... It wasn't busy. And every seat and table was 'reserved'. Weird. So we sat way in the back. Dirty cushions there. Full of stains and long blond hairs from the Tuesday night before(?), because we went here on a Wednesday late aternoon... Staff (online 1 guy) was friendly. And when I asked him if he could do a creative variation on a classic theme -the Old Fashioned- he promised me to make it really very creative: French style, with chestnut liquor... Promising. We also ordered ALL 4 of the snacks on the menu; the nuts, the olives, the pickled peaches AND the salty crisps. Smart choises, because none of these need ANY preparation at all, so personnel can focus on the cocktails, to make those extra good. My wife explained the guy that she was even looking forward to these simple snacks because of the fact she did so much shopping on an empty stomach, she had developed an appetite. To begin with the latter; we didn't get 1 of the snacks. Not 1 olive. Although the waiter just had to open a couple of supermarket packs, he still totally forgot. And the cocktails were very mediocre. Nothing special or creative at all. Just boring. Hence the 2 stars review. But explain this to me: How does Ruby get all these 5 star reviews? Is it because Copenhagen isn't a city for cocktails? I don't know, maybe I'm spoiled by the high quality of cocktail bars in Amsterdam. Ruby disappoints big time. The place was absolutely amazing. The decor and the way it is set up makes it unique. It is hard to find and the age rules are 25 and up which attracts a mature crowd. The bartenders are absolutely great, always making sure you're comfortable and checking up on you. The cocktails are delicious, my favorite was pisto pistachio. I went on a Saturday night and it was full house. The crowd is very clean cut and friendly. The waiting time for a cocktail was always 10-15 minutes, considerably fast since the cocktails are truly a craft. It is definitely a bit pricey but worth it. Attracts a good crowd and it's not a place you just run into. It is very low key, the entrance is like going to someone's apartment.
