Luis was incredibly thorough - he made sure that after I tried on each item of clothing and agreed on where to take in, that I was comfortable with the new sizing. He discussed the pricing on each garment UP FRONT and had all 7 items ready for me within a week (corduroy blazer from boden, tartan skirt from saint & sophia, number of jeans from j. crew/banana republic etc). When I came to pick them up, I tried every item on and they fit as expected! I was so delighted with the work that I just returned from my second drop off of 5 pairs of jeans, corduroy holiday pants and a dress. If you come to Luis (owner of Mike's Custom) you will have the chance to try on your items, talk through the alterations, discuss the pricing on each item and then show up within a week to pick up! He takes cash/check (which was easy to produce) and delivers incredible service!

In May, I dropped off my one-of-a-kind vintage wedding dress at Maria's. I had a personal connection to the family, and previous work had been fine. I asked for simple spot cleaning and steaming, and was told they'd call when it was ready. No rush at all. Two weeks later, I was suddenly told it was done and asked to pick it up quickly because it was taking up space. I paid cash and left. When I got it home, I was in disbelief. The internal structure had been cut away, the fabric looked pressed and damaged, and there were safety pins in multiple places that made no sense. I was devastated. I took photos and went back on Monday. Jose told me the owner was in Mexico. Later, I learned the business had just changed hands and the new owner had switched cleaners. I calmly asked for help, repair or reimbursement. I was told they were not responsible. That was repeated. I tried to handle this privately, offered reasonable options, and got nowhere. I was left scrambling to save my irreplaceable wedding dress just weeks before the wedding. They wouldn't even give me a refund. I've spend many nights crying over this situation that has yet been resolved.

They took the time to understand exactly what I needed and made me feel confident leaving my clothes in their care. It's not always easy to find a place that combines quality work with genuinely kind customer service, but Lindy Cleaners definitely delivers on both. I'll absolutely be coming back and would recommend them to anyone looking for reliable dry cleaning and tailoring.

I don't think I've ever gone to get professional alterations before, but this was a special dress…read morefor a special occasion, so I searched the phone book. After being discouraged by a couple of unfriendly locations on the phone, I came to the number for North Riverside Cleaners. A little farther from my neighborhood than I wanted it to be, but I thought, "Why not call them? For giggles...." I spoke with a woman named Bonnie. She said she couldn't give me an exact price for alterations because she needed to see the dress. Understood. I asked how late they were open to find out I had only 45 minutes till closing, but I had to get the darn dress in, so I got in the car and booked. Bonnie was a sweet little woman with short, doll-like but slightly graying curls. She was dressed like she came straight out of a 1950s issue of Better Homes and Gardens with an A-line skirt past the knee and a pretty, conservative blouse. The shop itself mirrored her antiquity: old, wooden paneling; a vintage-looking sign out front that lets passers-by know they do alterations; homey, not sterile and steamy like most cleaners.... Bonnie greeted me with a humble and hospitable smile and knew I was the one she had recently spoken to on the phone. She took a look at the dress and keenly advised me of what needed to be done since there were different fabrics and particular frills that needed to be tackled. I could tell she was a seamstress fit for the task. Within minutes and well before closing time, she showed me to the fitting room, pinned what needed to be pinned, took down my information and said she would call me when the alterations were done. All this with a gentle air. I felt like I've known her since I was a child and knew I could trust her. She just made me feel so at home; I almost thought she'd bring out a plate of cookies and some milk! Not much more than a week later the dress was finished and I was very impressed by the handiwork. Such fine and delicate material was perfectly stitched, and the frills looked as if they hadn't been altered or reconstructed at all. Great place, great work, great satisfaction. I will bring all of my cleaning/alteration needs here. Go see Bonnie. She'd love the business!
