A nice museum you can walk it in about 30 minutes or less very nice treatment as soon as you walk in grace selection of artwork is totally worth it if you're in the area to go visit. Great service, great selection of art and totally free so it's great for art lovers like me!

Absolutely loved this art museum. The pieces were amazing and thought provoking. There were all different types of contemporary art: collages, paintings, sculptures and more. I loved the artists' use of unconventional materials as well as the sociopolitical messages portrayed in their work. The staff was very warm and helpful. You could tell they cared about patrons having a good experience as well as preserving the art and keeping it in its best condition. There was a very relaxed atmosphere. If you have time, also check out the garden and studio across the street. Those were worth the visit as well! Best part, it was all completely free. :)

What a nice new gem of a museum in San Antonio and to open to the public for free! The staff was very welcoming and were available for any questions that you may have. The art pieces were interesting pop modern art and are worth the stop. There's also an outdoor sculpture garden which were filled with butterflies!

Sometimes San Antonio can surprise you in interesting ways. In looking for unknown places to visit in the city, I discovered Ruby City, a contemporary art gallery that is free to the public. It is based on the vision of Linda Pace and has a fun collection of contemporary art. On the day we visited, we had the place to ourselves and it was ideal for admiring the art pieces. It is also close to Chris Park, so in addition to looking at the collection, there is an opportunity to cross the street and relax in the park. I really enjoyed my visit to Ruby City and saw that they offer quite a few events through the year. This is a place where I plan on returning. Absolutely worth a visit.

This museum is really nice and eclectic! There were various exhibitions both indoors and outdoors! It was not that busy on a weekday evening, and very easy to get around. The workers at the front desk were super helpful in explaining the exhibit. The parking is free on the street right outside the entrance and exit. The art itself was very interesting- lots of different medium from canvases to sculptures. Would recommend giving this place a visit, especially since it's free of cost- the best value!

It's free...so how disappointed can anyone really be with this wonderful public museum! The architecture alone is worth seeing, built in 2019 by a well known architect in the industry the details are top notch. Use the bathroom and notice the door knobs! Even those are art. Love the building, love how it gives artists a showcase, and love the gardens. If you are visiting 100% add this to your must see list!

Really enjoyed visiting this contemporary art center. My play niece is very artistic and loves art so I was so happy to expose her to different kinds of art. Free art spaces like this are so necessary for children and I'm grateful we have the art center in SATX. The arts ape is every changing so I recommend looking at the website for display information. I also made reservations which I believe made our entrance quick and easy. They also have a nice grounds area for fun outside pics with sculptures. I think the building is also a great piece of art to admire. There is a designated parking lot as well. So what are you waiting for?! Go enjoy some art!

Very interesting modern art exhibits and a lovely sculpture garden. I also appreciated the available parking and the attentive staff.

I'm not an art connoisseur, but I enjoyed my time here. I came for an event introducing their new exhibit. They had a DJ, drinks from Lalo and Idle brewing and food from Sijang. There are 3-4 exhibits and it doesn't take very long, but it's free admission and worth checking out.

This is hands down my favorite art museum in San Antonio! The employees who work here are so knowledgeable and provided a lot of insight on the works. I really enjoyed the painting that used a Parisian subway station as a pattern. There is also a garden and separate exhibit a few minutes walk away from the main red building.

Beautiful museum. Bonus points for free entry! Really enjoyed the exhibits and the grounds and especially the architecture.

Because it's adjacent to the San Pedro Creek project, the most grand entrance is not visible when driving by (2/11/23), but just as awe inspiring once you find it. Appointments only. Even if, like me, when you show up no one is there, the receptionist will still make a reservation for the current time when you walk in. They are keeping track and taking names. The Main Gallery can be found either left or right up a symmetrical set of staircases. Whichever way you choose you'll end up in a space with high ceilings and lots of guards. I like Ruby City because it's small. You are compelled to linger over each artwork a tad longer knowing just how few items are on display. Works seem to range from 60 years old to nearly brand new.

How lucky are we to have a free to the public chic art studio in San Antonio, TX?! Obviously the best place for this studio WOULD be in SoFlo! I am always on the hunt for local spots and San Antonio gems and Ruby City delivered. The staff was very friendly and they were able to provide me with a mask since I left mine in the car. Thank you, Ruby City, for featuring local artists and giving the public access to it for free. Follow me on IG, Twitter, and TikTok: @KrisPBacon210

A sculpture garden surrounds the museum so there's plenty of areas to stroll and take photos. This museum resides in a gorgeous 1920s Spanish colonial revival residence built by Marion McNay. The building itself is art with its wood detailing, arches, and intricate tile ceilings and floors. The actual art collection consisted of over 20,000 items, but only some are displayed and occasionally on rotation. The collection embodied European and American art of the nineteenth century, twentieth, and twenty first centuries. Sooo much to see- paintings, special exhibits, vase collection, Angelica Raquel Mystic Threads, sculptures, and a lovely garden/pond/fountain containing koi. The museum has a gift shop, restrooms, and a special collection of art displayed by many artistic school children. My new found artist I discovered here was Carl Rice Embery. A pure Texan, his art was amazing ! Initially I thought the pieces were photographs, but up close they are actual paintings. That's how realistic they are. Simple Texan scenery. We had a great time and would definitely come back!

We arrived at our designated ticket time and walked in through the gift shop. There a staff member showed us to the ticket check in desk. After checking in we stopped at the bar for a little drink to accommodate our interactive gallery. We went with the seasonal adult capri sun and the year round capri sun. The bartender was very friendly and made delicious drinks. Upon arrival I was a little nervous about the experience as some have noted that there aren't many rooms to explore and that it didn't take long for them to go through the gallery. After we finished we can say with confidence that it's worth it. We spend about 55min- 1 hour within the gallery. The staff was friendly, the rooms were fun and interactive, and overall we were really pleased with the atmosphere.

Some were really cool, while others I probably could have skipped. I do think it helps going with friends because it makes the experience more fun and interactive. My favorite was the secret room where you pick up phones and listen to anonymous secrets from other people. That one was pretty unique. I also liked the room with all the changing lights--it looked really cool and was fun to walk through. There's also an area filled with balls that reminded me a bit of Chuck E. Cheese, and another section that's basically a maze made out of clear plexiglass panels. When you first walk in there's a bar, and they also have a gift shop. The bar was really backed up as a think there was only one bartender but she was very friendly. The entry process was easy since I bought my tickets online. Overall, if you go by yourself you could probably get through everything in about 35-40 minutes. It was a fun outing with a group, but personally I'd probably save my money and try something else next time.

I also happened to visit here during the holidays :) ! So both the inside and outside of the museum were beautifully decorated for the holiday season :D ! I like visiting all kinds of museums. But for sure, it definitely is meaningful to visit these smaller museums as well because they do feel much more personal and engaging, compared to larger museums that have so many tourists that it can get overwhelming.

I have visited many Museums such as the Huntington Library, the Getty and the Gene Audrey Western Museum. We really enjoyed ourselves. The museum is a perfect size, not too big and not too small. There is a nice mix of what is on display, from an excellent collection of spurs, paintings, and artifacts. My favorites were the paintings. Most museums have very old famous painting, but the Briscoe has a large number of paintings which have been painted recently. Now don't get me wrong, Blue Boy at the Huntington is an amazing painting but the paintings at the Briscoe were so vivid and captivating. I wish I could have purchased at least a dozen of them. The colors were bright, which made me wonder if this is what it would have been like looking at a Van Gouh a year after it was painted? Even though there were contemporary painting, the subject matter was distinctly western capturing a style unlike anything I have seen before. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. For instance, we asked what's the best way to go through the museum. Start one the 3rd floor and work your way down. We highly recommend making a day of it. If you get hungry, take a break and come back. If your budget is tight, the first Sunday is open the Bexar county residence for free. Enjoy the experience.
