I had the pleasure of catching the MILLENNIAL LOTERÍA: THE LATINXPERIENCE located in the heart of downtown San Antonio, at Centro de Artes! Mike Alfaro, the founder and creator of Millennial Loteria, could not have picked a better city to kick off this masterpiece of a collection. Submerse yourself in the hilarity and nostalgia for low cost of FREE (For locals)! If you like this review, please follow me on TikTok and Instagram: @KrisPBacon210

Centro de Artes is a great little excursion to view free culturally relevant rotating art exhibits! I had the pleasure of attending an artist talk (just one on a list of events the venue offers throughout the year) to hear from some of the photographers and curator of their current exhibit: From SA to SA. Getting to hear the stories behind the artwork is always a nice touch, and the event also provided light food and drink. Popping in when you already find yourself at Market Square is the best way to go. Keep in mind, if you are traveling to this side of town just for the museum, you will have to pay for parking in one of the various lots surrounding the area. I can vouch that the Goodwill across the street offers one hour free, which could be just enough time to browse if need be! Ultimately, it is clear that Centro de Artes puts a lot of effort and emotion into choosing their pieces and I think it is such a neat way to represent our city!

The gallery is reopening after being closed due to covid. Admission is free and the artwork is amazing. I love the large gallery space across two floors. Take a break from Market Square and walk into this beautiful and inspiring space.

I stopped in here with a small group as we had just finished lunch at the Market Square. This art gallery was definitely a surprise. First I didn't know it was on the agenda, which was cool. Second it is located in the Market Square, but kind of hidden at the same time. And third there were some amazing pieces here. It seems like hey have a different artists that change out at different times of the year. I was fortunate enough see the Angel Rodriguez-Diaz A Retrospective and the A Woman's Place Is exhibits. It was all beautiful, interesting and impressive work. The gallery had a peaceful and relaxing feel as well. If you are in the area and like going to museums and art galleries then definitely stop in here and check it out! It was totally work it!

This is located in the El Mercado area, we really enjoyed all the artwork on display and i'll post some pics of the stellar paintings. The artwork was amazing. I think it changes all the time, and it's free! This display was titled Icons and symbols of the badlands and runs until December the 17th.

If you are visiting San Antonio and staying on the Riverwalk, do yourself a favor and venture out past the souvenir shops to this great little museum. Entry is free and they feature work of local artists. Right now the exhibit features some amazing works from the University of Texas' collection. The works included a range of styles and media, and we enjoyed it a great deal. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the works on display. As an added bonus, the building is air conditioned, so a visit also offers an opportunity to cool off on a hot humid day!

Wondered by this place from walking through the Marketplace. As soon as we walked in a security guard at the desk asked if he could help us and then briefly explained what they had going on. We decided to go and look at the art they had displayed which was amazing. There were live performances going on so it was nice to get a glimpse of that. A nice lady then reminded us that there was an art area for the kids and we quickly headed over. The kids got to make animal masks with the help of student volunteers. The nice lady also offered my boys some butterfly wings which I thought was awesome and my boys were so excited. This experience was amazing can't wait to go back and so what other great displays and activities they offer.

The other reviewers have already spoken to said cause, but you're basically supporting the local church and helping people in need. Nice. Some of it may be "typical" San Antonio touristy stuff, but most of it has the touch and feel of real art created by local artisans. Ceramics, paintings, prints, jewelry, other miscellaneous... You're likely to come across something of interest in this homey little nook of a shop. I really like their variety of pottery and ceramics. Nice stuff. Well made and good selection. See my pics for a few examples. We always stop in here to browse whenever we visit La Villita. Sometimes you find something you can't live without, sometimes you don't. But you always kind of feel compelled to leave with *something* since you know you're funding good works by dropping a few bucks here. No credit or debit cards accepted - heads up. Happy hunting!

The art is made up of a wide-range of pottery, jewelry, photography, and paintings. They also sell jewelry made by local artists. I will warn you that they do not take any form of plastic for payment. They do accept cash, money orders and checks. (Who carries checks anymore?) They do have a few touristy trinkets as well. Bottom line: The art supports the church food program but I really didn't think the art was that good. I'll give them three generous stars.

I have jewelry, art, beautiful glass pieces and more. My favorites from there are the NATIVITY ORNAMENTS, Nativities from other Countries, collectors 12 days of Christmas. A hidden gem loved by locals, a favorite detour before a show at any of the four performing art venues within walking distance- one literally steps away, so close that anybody who has been to a show has inevitably passed by while waiting in line to get through security! Their success in such a prime location is evidenced by their 25th anniversary this year, having been established way back in 1999, with a 10 year anniversary at their present location downtown. The service here is phenomenal. I challenge you to find fault here. Even though I have only ever bought something once, I confess that I have been here without purchasing anything at least a dozen times. The owner, Philip, and any other employees, has never reacted or treated me any differently. Friendly, welcoming, all smiles. I am totally in love with the art scene in San Antonio at the present! There is a Do it Yourself…read morevibe and a polished art community coexisting simultaneously in the city. With galleries like The High Wire Arts, that feeling is definitely consummated. It is a commune of artists, if you will, who create both compelling and intellectually stimulating works. The gallery is located right across the street from The Josephine Theater. There is some parking in front of the spot, but you might have to park further down and walk here. The outside facade is quite amazing. There are sculptures that surround it; a sight to behold when they are lit up at night. Since I went there for a fundraising function they did charge a nominal entrance fee, $3.00 or by donation. But with admission they did offer catering by an Indian eatery. Inside the place was filled with all types of people to include, hipsters, burnout hippies, squatters, suit and tie types, musicians, writers, etc. White sleek walls were filled with ultra affordable art. I spotted a lady painting a complex piece, while a dog was resting a few feet away from her. The space itself is a mix of light and darkness. For example the front part has a use of brightness, in conjunction with white walls that lends to the pieces being displayed. Along the corridors there are dark corridors hidden by shadows that have rooms where new works are being made. Other rooms in the gallery have specific areas where patrons congregate and converse. In one of the rooms a DJ, an acoustic player and a Hare Krishna avatar were utilizing the same art space. I liked the vibe of this room, with swirling lights straight out of a Andy Warhol studio. It created an esoteric, unearthly vibe. My only critique of this gallery is the overplaying of light and darlk to the hilt. In some of the corridors it would have been nice to see a tad more light beeming. But than again each room and space had its own vision and narrative. Some of the art is mindblowing. To see the use of everyday things like leaves and teabags reimagined into canvases for dialogue was certainly not lost on me. The High Wire Arts Gallery is the perfect spot to play to the assets of this city, which has always been art and music. It is a bit hipster but not pretentious. It has a glow of its own that gives it purpsoe and a sense of urgency. I want to go back and see the teabags with the tiniest of etchings. Maybe it is saying that we need to examine things more closely before we make an absolute judgement. Maybe it is just a teabag with intricate etchings.
