The food was ordered by a co-worker, so I didn't get a chance to experience the atmosphere and the customer service For my 1st time. The steak & chicken tacos is what I chose for my lunch. The steak tacos were good and seasoned well. As for the chicken tacos, they were very bland, lacking in flavor and under seasoned. Wasn't feeling well so I decided to get Mexican chicken soup the lady tells me we only have chicken noodle soup. So I figured since I'm there I'd get it. They don't give you tortillas. They give you a roll and some crackers get home. Put the soup in the bowl and it's all onions carrots and noodles no chicken so if you're really sick, don't go eat any soup from there. You cannot find a place that serves bigger burritos in extremely quick time with a friendly greeting anywhere. This place was recommended to me by a class instructor and wow, were they right. I was greeted as I stepped in the door. This place should teach customer service to other restaurants. The menu is easy to read with the usual Mexican cuisine as well as daily specials. I came here twice during the week and tried both the chicken tacos as well as a chicken burrito. By the time I got my fountain drink and sat down, the food was delivered! Shocking just how quickly it came out! There was also a basket of chips, salsa, hot sauce, and a bowl of peppers delivered with the meal. The burrito was huge and came with rice and refried beans. I wrote off this place for breakfast about a year ago after they charged for water (let alone Romeoville tap water, which is the worst and undrinkable IMHO). Then, it was recently suggested to me that they had great burritos. I had to give them a try (to go) since I'm currently in the process of comparing all the burrito places within reasonable driving distance of my workplace. This is the only place (7th one visited on my list of 16 so far) whose "steak" is nothing more than ground beef. The burrito itself was eatable, but not that great (though not the worst either), ranking it at number 5 of the 7 places I've tried so far. I just ordered their Breakfast Skillet with strip steak in it. The strip steak was super tough and had stringy fat attached to it that almost looked like Italian beef. The hash browns were undercooked and the entire skillet just looked like mushy dog food. Since moving here last year, I drive past this place multiple times and always wanting to check this place out. Well I finally had the opportunity to dine her. Very friendly staff and the prices are reasonable. Definitely better than most Mexican restaurants in the area. I ended up ordering two steak tacos with onions and cilantro. YUMMMM! So good and the meat was flavorful! I had my eye set on the faijta burrito, but I'll get that when I return. The ONLY thing that I didn't like is that the guy was mopping the floor and made the floor TOO WET. There were puddles everywhere. He did tell us to watch our step and to walk around it (near the restrooms), but I surely didn't want to see that as I was eating. I have a habit of getting off the 4 lane highway and driveing the back roads and that was the case last Saturday. I was on my way to a photo shoot and Ruby's Burritos and Crepes sign caught my eye. So it was a quick turn into a small strip mall to check out this diner in the one corner of the strip. How can you not checkout a place that is advertising Burritos and Crepes. It was about 9:30am and the diner was about 1/2 full with locals. I think I was the only person in the joint that didn't know someone at a near by table. The coffee was hot and quickly delivered which I needed to get my motor going on this wonderful late winter morning. I ordered the Chilaquiles breakfast special plate. It was served quickly and came with what I can only imagine was home made green and red salsa along with some hot pickled veggies. All were very tasty and really hit the spot. Yeah, yeah I know I came in for either a burrito or crepes and ended up with the Chilaquiles. I enjoyed my breakfast and next time I will take the leap to Crepes. All and all I would say Ruby's was a nice little surprise and am glad I had left I-80 and took to the back roads of Illinois. read more

Girlfriend and I went here on Sunday for dinner and we loved it. Chips and salsa were great. Be careful the red salsa is hot, but great. They'll even warn you beforehand. We both got burritos. She got the shredded chicken (which was fantastic) and I got the steak (which was pretty good). We were both impressed with Ruby's. Make sure you ask for some Valentina hot sauce- major key. Horchata is also good, plus it's free refills. Dining area was decent, we spent over an hour there and we were comfortable. We'll def be coming back soon. Romeoville is full of Mexican restaurants and Ruby's is the best I've had so far. Also don't listen to the review below. I'm black and they def weren't racist. While this place is good I must say that my hunt continues on. We had an al Pastor Burrito, American Nachos w/beef, and horchata. The food was good and what was expected for one of those hidden gem hole in the walls dives.The salsa left a little to be desired but was ok. The meat was well prepared and had great flavor. The rice was bland but the beans had good flavor. While horchata is not typically on my list of must have drinks theirs was very good (and you get free refills). My 2 year old tried everything that we ordered and was a big fan of the rice and horchata. The waiter was great and the dining room was very clean. In my book it really helps to see ethnic clientele eating at ethnic restaurants. This is definitely one of those establishments where that appears to be the norm. The service was really awesome and the food was 10 times better than Taco Bell but just as quick. The fam and I will be returning when we are back in the area. read more

This is my favorite mexican joint. A little restaurant tucked into the old side of romeoville. You can order burritos the size of your head, or just order the fine dinners that they have there. They also serve breakfast there and have a dining room next door. I usually go for the burritos, so I can't comment on the pancakes and eggs there. Once you go there a few times you get to know the staff there. This place has a very homey feeling to it. It is still going strong even with all the new mexican places opening up. Fast, good and cheap... exactly how I like my Mexican food! I imagine this spot is a bit of a hidden treasure in Romeoville. First time in this suburb, so I can't say for sure, but it's slightly off the beaten path away from the action. I ordered the Al Pastor burrito. Usually I shy away from getting al pastor unless I've had a prior dalliance with said Mexican joint, but I got a good look at what was coming out and everything looked kosher. So, I went for it! And I'm happy I did. The meat was tender and well-spiced, and the tortilla was fresh and grilled so it's extra flaky (just the way I like it). Did I mention the burrito is massive? Was sorry to see that this place did not meet up to it's hype. I had heard a lot of good things about it, and read some of the other Yelp reviews. I ordered the Super burrito as that's my go to in a Mexican restaurant and was happy with it until I took the first bite. I had a mouthful of gristle and fat. While a little gristle is to be expected, this piece was a good inch and half long and I can't imagine it being overlooked during the preparation. I wrote it off as a bad bite and continued with the meal. Half way through the burrito, I had hit three more, albeit smaller, chunks of gristle. I didn't finish the rest. I normally go to their Minooka location, but had to run an errand nearby. Got a Cubana torta (not offered at their other location) and a chicken chimichanga to go. Absolutely loved the torta has it was packed with ham, chorizo, breaded steak, eggs, and hot dog, not bad for $7 for the diversity in meats and getting 2 meals out of it. Very racist restaurant. You can tell by their body language, when you come into the restaurant the employees, and the manager begin talking in their native language. Sometimes they laugh while looking at you. The food service is very quick though, and you don't have to wait a long time for your food, but I'll pass on their food, because they might poison black people. The staff is friendly here, and I used to get the barbacoa burrito but now my addiction is the steak burrito with nothing on it but cheese, onions and cilantro. Their pork is not bad either. My steak burrito addiction is my guilty pleasure that keeps me coming here again and again, and now that I moved back to the area it is easier for me to get! One problem is the food is ready TOO fast, most authentic Mexican places take time, this is almost Mcdonalds fast and the taste reflects that, yet it is so damn good, just like Mcdonald's lol. I have eaten at Rubys for 20 years they are very good at what they do, if you eat in they bring you chips and salsa which is very good I have had everything on their menu the Carne asada la tomiqiena is delicious very tender steak with quac, lettuce, onions and peppers with of course a enchilada the tacos are very good especially the chille relenos and of course on the weekends they have the best menudo in the evening hours jesse works he is so nice, and during the day tiny the owner is there he always makes everyone feel like family because his family works there so you like them, try their soups they are so good in the cold months or be sure to get the guacamole and chips you will not be disappointed, I highly recommend this place read more

This place is garbage. I got a burrito and tacos. If you want to eat microwaved beef with big junks of fat in it this is your place to go. The atmosphere is alright, but no one was here on lunch. Probably cause it doesn't taste very good. How does it even have 3 stars? El Comedor was right next door to the gas station it was fire! now there's more garbage Las Islas opened instead of el comedor. That place isn't very good either.
