It's not super authentic tacos, but they have extremely good quality meat, and pretty solid prices for the location itself. I always get the Battered Fish Tacos, and they are so delicious! It's packed with veggies and it comes with two sides! The customer service can be worked better, they don't really acknowledge you, and they take forever to get your order. Staff also isn't super clean, i've seen the workers grab chips with bare hands. Overall, the food is still pretty tasty and the best part is the unlimited salsa bar with limes! The ambiance of the place is very loud but bright; once walking into East Commons (food court) there are many options amongst Rubio's, but i'd recommend trying if you're opened to something new! read more

The burrito came with a very good amount of succulent well seasoned shrimp, but the burrito did need more bacon. It was not as noticeable as the shrimp. However, it did not hurt the over all tasty quality of the burrito. But still....more bacon please. The toasted cheese inside the burrito was interesting and good. It actually had a good crunch and flavor. The handmade guacamole was fresh, the red chiles tasty, the citrus rice soft, the salsa fresca zesty, and the chipotle sauce was very good. My go-to spot whenever I'm on campus and forget my lunch at home. This is probably the most busy eatery on campus, yet the work the most efficiently and consistently. Like even when it's the lunch rush they get through the line quickly and get the food to everyone pretty quick. The workers here are super nice and always seem to be in a good mood whenever I go. The ancho citrus shrimp burrito is super tasty and filling. And the salsa I always get is in the bottles by the soda machine, which is a jalapeno citrus salsa. I have to say that's the best salsa they have, the actual salsa bar to me is a bit mediocre. I recently tried the langostino lobster bowl, and it is a bit on the pricey side since the bowl is mostly rice and not that much langostino. I think it needs some lemon and butter but maybe that is just a personal preference ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The chips that come with the burrito are always super crisp and salted perfectly. Every once in a while they run out of the jalapeno citrus salsa and it breaks my heart every time lol. Rubios used to be the most reliable restaurant on campus, but recently the food has been absolutely terrible. I just ordered a battered fish burrito ($10.75 after tax) and it had almost no fish at all. I am not exaggerating when I say that all the fish in the burrito could fit into a tablespoon with room to spare. The menu claims that this burrito contains battered fish, guacamole, black beans, white sauce, salsa, cabbage, cilantro, and onion. The ONLY thing in this burrito was cabbage and the sauce of the black beans (no beans -- just the sauce that usually comes with them). My last experience was also terrible but I won't get into that. I used to eat here multiple times a week, now I will never come back. read more

This is my go to when I am needing something filling while on campus. During lunch time, I will order the Chicken Burrito Especial and it comes with chips and a drink! My go to salsa's are a 1/3 and 2/3 mix of the extra hot green salsa and extra hot red one (they're located near the area you pick up your order). If it's not a lunch special hour, I will get the California bowl with shrimp. They give you a great amount of shrimp and everything tastes very fresh. The chipotle sauce that goes with the California Bowl is so creamy and rich and compliments the shrimp very well. I'll sometimes even order a side of chips so I can eat the bowl with chips-- it adds a nice crunch to the entire meal. The service has always been great here. Returners and new workers of Rubio's always have a smile and have patience, even when the line wraps towards the sliding doors of East Commons. The great thing about this location is that it is on campus of SDSU and inside of East Commons, so there is plenty of seating area indoors and outdoors. Even if the line is long, it goes by incredibly quick. I've been in alone where it was out the doors of East Commons, and I waited about 15 minutes. This is the BEST restaurant I've probably ever been to! They never fail to wow me. It's the perfect comfort food and is very accomodating to my needs as a vegetarian! No lard in the beans or tortillas, and no chicken stock in my favorite items! Their Mexican rice is to DIE for! It's so good! And their corn chips are such a good snack too! I get extra in my order just so I can save some for later for future snacking! And their salsa's are just AMAZING! Not to mention their affordable prices! I've eaten here quite a few times and it's been pretty good. The service is pretty good, but it can definitely get busy during the lunch rush. Even though this location is on campus, they still offer pretty much the same food as the other Rubios locations. I usually get the Health-Mex Chicken Burrito since it's served on a wheat tortilla with black beans, salsa fresca and rice. It makes for a very filling meal that is a little healthier than some of the other menu items. I ordered the fish tacos last time and I was very happy with them. They were crispy, with just the right amount of sauce and cabbage. The portions of fish were good too. I also recommend adding some of their fresh salsa as it just finishes off the taco with the right amount of flavor. If you're on campus and want to try a good fish taco, I think Rubios might have what you're looking for. read more

I went to this location on campus regularly despite their prices and small-sized burritos. Recently, I had a horrible customer experience. Since I come to this location regularly, they would not mind that I grab 4 oz of salsa from the open bar. This was not the case. I was confronted by an employee named Carmen, who said this is only for customers and explained that I come and patronize this location regularly. She then goes on to say she doesn't ever remember seeing me at the location. I told her you help hundreds of people a day, and you personally don't help every single customer there is 3 point of sales machines. I stated you know, from now on, I won't grab 4oz of salsa or patronize you guys. That wasn't good enough for her she demanded I either pay or throw it away. I felt this was ridiculous and stated I'm not going to pay for this 4oz of salsa after you said something to me after the fact. She claimed it came out of her personal pay if she took this 4oz of salsa when, in reality, the multiple million dollar corporation. And even then, the salsa that is in a gallon container is pennies at cost value for the company. And many companies write off profit losses. Carmen goes all "Karen" and tells me that she will call the campus police on me if I refuse to throw it away or pay for 4oz of salsa. Once again, this is ridiculous, and I was a regular customer. Some guy came out and tried to back her, but in the end, he agreed that it was ridiculous to demand me to pay for 4oz of salsa or they would call the police. I consider Rubio's an upscale fast food joint. Meaning that it's perfect if I'm in the mood for good Mexican food and don't have the time to sit down at a restaurant. The quality is pretty good here. And the fish tacos are amazing!!! Even though this is a chain restaurant I still think the food is good. The quality definitely is expressed in the prices, which are definitely higher than other fast food places. However, there is always a line at this Rubio's... I always say that a line or packed restaurant is the best indicator of quality. For the line always being long, the wait to get your food is normally pretty reasonable. The food here is okay, but the reason for the two stars is the service is horrible. They took over 30 minutes to make me two fish tacos on taco tuesday. They know they get a ton of foot traffic, so they should be running as efficiently as possible. After I ordered, there was a queue of maybe 30 students waiting for their lunches. They had three people at the registers with maybe two or three people in line(other people didn't bother because they saw the huge wait) and they had only one person handing out all of the orders. I know I shoudn't expect top notch mexican food from a place on campus, but the fish tacos were sloppily thrown together and extra soggy.
