Get my haircut monthly by Javi and always awesome. He knows what I like and there are a bunch of regulars that are always here. Ruben and Javi offer no frills, no appointment, just good old school vibe. They now do digital payments like Zelle or Apple Pay but otherwise still cash only. read more

I recently moved to Modesto and needed a barber. Coming here was the worst decision ever. I don't understand how Ruben is able to call himself a barber. He should understand that as men we want to look good for whatever the occasion may be. I showed him the style I wanted. As a professional he should have said he could not do it. But he proceeded to do the job of the most lazy person you can encounter. I should have read the reviews others have given him. $30 for less than 15 minutes of work and the quality of it? It is an embarrassment! I hope more people post their reviews about Ruben as I'm sure there are a lot more out there who were treated unfairly. Please find yourself another place and barber. read more

This barbershop has stood the test of time, long before the arrival of newer competitors who charge exorbitantly for a simple haircut and consider themselves rockstars. Its classic ambiance is a breath of fresh air, offering no-gimmicks and assuring excellent service without overcharging. With a haircut priced at $30, it's a relief not to feel exploited, unlike at other places. Ruben and Javier, the skilled barbers here, bring a wealth of experience. You can trust you're in capable hands.Overall, it's puzzling why anyone would choose to go elsewhere for a haircut. read more

Ruben gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in awhile because he really took the time to make sure everthing was trimmed up. Super nice guy with a friendly old school barbershop vibe. I'll be coming back. read more

Great service and Ruben cut my hair just the way I like it. Every barber or hairdresser I have been to in the past in Modesto did not know how to handle cowlicks. But Ruben knew exactly how to handle it. read more

They up the price to $30 and have not changed their service. 15 min haircut that leave spots missed and no attention to detail like other barbershops that charge the same price. They don't realize that with the increase prices they should offer a better service. I will go to other barbershops that have better services like a razor on the neck and no missed spots. read more

Last time i go here the guy messed up my hair i dont know what he was thinking dont play it off like its all good when you know you f'd up

Top-notch barbers in town, Ruben and Javier exemplify professionalism and skill. Convenient walk-ins welcome, ideal for those seeking a haircut on short notice. read more

Dropped in for a haircut, Ruben totally screwed it up. Told him I wouldn't be back. If you have a short or razor type cut this may be your place. Any other type cut somewhere else. read more

This is the worst spot in modesto, The fade is a one all around and he left me with bald sides and a small patch of hair on top. THIS PLACE IS SHIT. I PAID 30 fucking dollars, when i could have done this shit show myself. he spent 15 minutes and left me with spots. A fuckin hair salon is better and they charge 15 DO NOT TRUst THE PROCESS read more

Very good haircuts. Ruben is a friendly guy and excellent barber. The only place in Modesto that I'm aware of that does an old-fashioned shave. The prices are reasonable, excepting that this is Modesto and people are broke. It feels like you've stepped into the 1950s when you go in. That posed the only problem; once I went and was subjected to listening to another customer's homophobic diatribe. Ruben seemed annoyed, but listened anyways. I get that guys run their mouths at barber shops and that Modesto is homophobic; but a guy allowed to rant that loudly, that prolonged, in front of children, well, it's off putting. I've been back since, because Ruben does good work. I haven't been in a while though and would love a high quality shave. read more

Nice haircut place. Very happy with my cut. Would definitely be going back to this place.

This review is LONG over due! Ruben has been cutting my son's hair since he was 1 and my son is now 4 years old. Being a young single mom it is pretty intimidating walking into a barbershop because I feel as if there is a "guys only" stigma but that is not the case here. I feel totally comfortable walking In here with my son and waiting for him to get his hair cut. Ruben is super friendly and has been the only one to cut my son's hair and he has always been very patient with him, even when he would cry a lot or when I would have to sit with my son in the chair to keep him from having a melt down. He would even give my son multiple lollipops throughout his haircut to keep him happy. Hes become so familiar with my son that I don't even really need to tell him how to cut his hair anymore! I'm super impressed with the AMAZING customer service and haircuts that I have always received from Ruben, if there was a way to give more than 5 stars I totally would! Thanks Ruben! read more

I've tried again and again to get a quality undercut at salons and barber shops to no avail. Paid anything from $10 to $30 for a cut and they've all turn out horrible. Since my hair was getting long again I needed a haircut. Gave this place a shot and I don't regret it. Barber did an excellent job...he knew just what to do and took his time even tho more customers were coming in. read more

Ruben's Barber Shop - Undercut - Barbers Near Me - Modesto, California

I've been coming here since 2012 and never had any disappointments. Best straight razor cut and shave I've ever had is at this shop by the owner Ruben. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a good haircut and a barber shop environment read more

We didn't have time to make appointment and Trevino's was booked solid so we tried Ruben's Barber Shop. They took my son as a "walk-in" and bam....he walked out less than 20 min later sportin' a great hairdo! Ruben did an AWESOME cut and style! He did exactly what my son asked for! This a great old fashion barber shop...they even shake your hand before you leave (great example for kids/teens)! My son will definitely be back! read more

Ruben's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Modesto, California

It is a nice place, old school vibe which it is very nice. Haircut was ok, it could have been cleaner, the barber didn't clean good the neck area, neither husband was offered (shaving/trimming the area). It could have been better. Still, it is okay. read more

Ruben's Barber Shop - Neck area was not shaved/trimmed, neither it was offered. Nice barbershop either way. - Barbers Near Me - Modesto, California

Just started going there recently, but I wish I had found it sooner. Nice little barbershop that takes you back in time as soon as you walk through the door. Barbers are friendly and the place is always kept clean. read more

My brother went here and got a fade. He was very pleased with the service. Ruben was pretty awesome; down to earth and knows how to cut hair. This shop gets busy, so be ready to wait; we think the wait is worth it. My brother will be a returning customer. read more

Great haircut and easy going atmosphere. After years of searching for a barber shop, my search is over.

Easily one of the worst hair cuts I've ever gotten. I had to go to another place and have them fix it. The dude who cut my hair said he had been doing it for 10 years but this is besides the point. I got a 5 on top and there are long hairs that he missed which is level 1 at barber school. He seemed like he was in a bad mood with his short ass answers and lack of attention. The fade is decent but is super uneven. And when I brought it up he just said it was even and wouldn't accept that I thought it wasn't. I'll continue my search on finding a competent barber in the Modesto area because this guy isn't it. read more

Very unprofessional haircuts done at this barber shop. Would not recommend at all. Told Ruben I wanted it a certain way and ended up not being close at all the way I asked for it. read more

Excellent cut. The guys take their time and do it right. I have fine hair that shows every mistake possible in a haircut and I haven't see any problems when they cut it. The vibe in the shop is laid back and the music is excellent-I need Reuben's iPod! If you're going in for a quick cut and you're going to be impatient, don't bother. They take their time and that's what makes it good, but it does take awhile. read more

Got a great haircut at a great price. This is a cool and friendly spot. I'll definitely be coming back.

Javier always does a great job, these guys are very friendly and the shop has a an old school feel. It is also a get price!

Legit spot. Ruben and Javier are super friendly and never give a bad haircut. Also, challenge Ruben to any Seinfeld trivia and I bet you'll loose...unless you're me. read more

The quality and pride that these guys take in their work has earned them another regular. Classic barbershop feel, old school music in the background, welcoming environment. Even a basic zero to whatever length fade will get you 30 minutes in the chair...that's attention to detail. read more

Came here because of all the good reviews. Walked in around 2pm he had about 4 people in front of us. It was about 30 min wait. I watched as he cut Everyones hair, he did a really good job. So when it was my son's turn I told him we are growing out the top and to cut the sides short i even showed him a pucture. Well before I could say anything he buzzed the top right off! All that time letting it grow out, gone! He got what I would call a military cut. It looks good, but not what I asked for. So still searching for a good barber... read more

I have to say their hair cuts are good, but customer service is a biggie for me and Ruben did not provide that. They take their time which is awesome because they do dedicate their time but friendliness is not really quite there. I took my boys there and maybe it's because I'm a girl but he was not welcoming. read more

Well Ruben was friendly, and it seemed like a great neighborhood barbershop. When it was all said and done, I think I got a lousy haircut. I tried to give him a chance to get it right, even showed a picture, but I think he just didn't want to take the time to make things even. Worst I can remember in my life. Sorry. read more

Great haircuts by Ruben, he is open on Saturdays and Sundays (closed Sundays during football season, Go Raiders!), his place has a cool 50's 60's feel which I dig. He also has a large screen TV that usually has the game on and great selection of pomades. read more

I'm from out of town and I was looking for a good barbershop and I came across Rubens. As I walk in I get greeted by Ruben and the other barber next to him. I waited for my turn to come up did not wait long. So I ask Ruben for a razor fade and boy let me tell you the guy has some mad skills with his razor. My cut was so fresh when he was done. I recommend to go and see Ruben or the other barber sorry I did not get your name but this dude has skills as well. I know where I'll be going from now on in the Modesto area. Ruben also has good pricing for his service. Thanks again Ruben. read more

Rubens barber shop in Modesto did an awesome job on cutting my hair, but I didn't get that barber shop feel. it was really boring and they didnt have a tv set up for customers getting their hair cut to watch. in my mind a barber shop is a place where people in the community come get there hair cut and hang out swap stories and talk about sports. i guess what i am trying to say is the atmosphere wasn't up to par. read more

Came from Victorville to visit family n friends n my hubby forgot his pomade... A greaser without his pomade is not a greaser at all..Lol.. The Gentleman that was on his way out for personal reasons was gracious enough to wait for us to go buy a pomade before closing up. Thank You!! read more

My adult son was looking for a barber and I suggested this place after seeing other Yelp reviews. It's on Tully near the College. My son was thrilled with the place and his haircut. Below is what he said about the place: "Walked in on a Saturday--three people ahead and there was a 30 min. wait. Barber took his time to do an excellent job without rushing people in and out. Barber did not waste time on small talk but concentrated on haircut. Haircut was excellent. A professional barber who knows how to do perfect "fade" haircuts. After cutting, he styled with pomade. Cut was $15 and I was so impressed that I gave him $30 total....$15 tip. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a superb cut, at a great price, without all the fuss of having to make useless conversation." =) read more

I got tired of my fiancé'a mullet and finally took him to get a haircut. I love the whole old school vintage feel if the place. The reading material is awesome. Javier was very friendly and did an awesome job with his hair, you can tell he takes pride in his work. $15 haircut- can't beat that. Tip: Cash Only. There's a liquor store across the street that will do cash back for a fee- just make sure you bring cash and please tip the barbers! read more

Ruben is very friendly and it looks like a found a new barber! He always had Pommade for sale @ a great price! Would recommend him to anyone. Since I am growing my hair out I really didn't know what to do which it. He recommended some tips for me and educated me on what I should use for my hair. Forget all that hard helmet hair gel....I buy pommade for him now. read more

So I was looking for a good barber in Modesto and ran across this shop....absolutely the best cut I've had. Ruben and Javier are skilled, well seasoned barbers. These men take a lot of pride in their work, detailed, professionals.......and they do a 5 star straight razor shave, "old school style" that left my face baby butt smooth. This is as good as it gets. And for $30.00 (cut & shave) + tip, it's a steal! If I were back in San Francisco, I'd easily spend $75.00 + for this service. read more
