I arrive Friday morning and they told me I never confirmed my appointment and that they cannot fit me in. They even tried stating they called at 8 AM the day of my appointment. I was awake at 7 AM, no missed calls on my phone. I drove 30 minutes into town for no reason and now have to drive ANOTHER 30 minutes into town next week for my re-scheduled appointment. My sister and I both went for new patient appointments and we were both very pleased with the dental assistants and the dentists. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, from the first phone call to check out. Lovely modern office. They do their own crowns in house. A lot of investment in modern equipment. And there is even Pearl the therapy dog! We went back for cleanings and even more impressed with the quality of care and attention to detail! They do fluoride treatments and sealants, regardless. They asked her, not the people with the medical authority. They asked her even when I was back there with her. You have to remind them because even though I said no they were going to do it anyway and I caught them. This is after I already said no. They ended up doing it when I had to send my husband and they told him that he couldn't go back there. Not impressed with their ability to follow a court order or parents wishes. If there were a way to fine them for them going against a court order I would. Why do they even ask people if they can do those treatments when they will try to do them anyway regardless if you said no? Can't be trusted.

Where do I begin... let me start with this, if I could have given 0 stars I would have. Our…read morefirst/last visit there was horrible for both my daughter as well as myself. First off I was not allowed in the back while she had an exam. I can understand an office doing that for every visit after the first... but NOT prior too. She doesn't know them, trust them, want to be around them without her mother. Second, I never met the dentist... EVER! I spoke with an assistant before my daughter went back and after... that's the only staff member I met other than a receptionist. If my daughter is going to be sedated (whether completely under or mild) I want to be able to put a face with a name. Third, it took an hour and a half to clean her teeth, have a few x-rays, and an exam by the dentist. Last but not least my daughter wet her pants. She's 2. The assistant informed me of the incident and said "she didn't even tell us she had to go"..... -.-..... really? SHE'S 2! 'Nough said. My two youngest were so heavily sedated that my oldest daughter and I had to each carry them out to the car. They slept the whole ride home. They couldn't even eat dinner that night and went straight to bed until the next morning. This was only for a few fillings. The third child needed an adult tooth pulled, and he told me just to pull it that I would have to pay $400.00. I refused because as a single mom on Medicaid I didn't have that kind of money. I also had 2 teeth pulled for $400.00. Michael Tarver told me that I was more than welcome to take her where I had my tooth pulled, but likely they would overdose her on pain meds. I find this highly ironic since he as done this more than once. He used SCARETATICS on a single mom that is living paycheck to paycheck. I threw a fit when they quoted me for the extraction, so HE came out to talk to me personally. I remember his face and his condescending demeanor. He is a truly horrible human. I can't believe they are still allowing this man to practice dentistry. His license should be revoked.

They had 2 girls that were doing their thing. One was there to take X-rays the other information. I was wowed by the hand held xray unit, but I guess technology has advanced, so it was cool. I told the woman that i had a real fear of dentists, and she ran with that. I was talked to like a child,and when I left I felt like Id been condescended to. It wasn't comforting. I was allowed to watch on a big screen as Dr. Harper examined my teeth on my first visit! It sounded scary to see up close, but it was really neat! He is the most gentle dentist, and thoughtful. He doesn't hurt you at all. Other dentists have shamed me for crying, even yelled at me as a kid. He fixed a temp tooth sitting on an implant that an Oral Surgeon put on too tight. It was put in so badly by the other doctor, it broke and loosened the real tooth next to it. Dr. Harper recemented it and shaved it down to fit properly no charge, after my cleaning. The hygenist is really nice, and patient as well. People who are afraid of the dentist should def. go here. Everyone from front desk, to the back team are friendly and make you feel welcome, when other dentists treat you like you don't know your own mouth, or that you're an annoyance for being afraid. They completely understand at OcalaSmiles. I drink a lot of soda, like lots of people, and every office I've been to it's "Just stop drinking soda all together"... and left it at that. Of course, I love my soda and didn't stop. By the time I found Dr. Harper, the soda had done damage. Instead of shaming me, or trying to browbeat me into quitting soda, I was given an explanation of HOW soda works and work arounds to prevent more issues. Now, I drink my soda through a straw and swish with water many times a day after having a pop. I know it's not the best way, but the improvement in my mouth health has never been this good since I started swishing all that sugar out of my mouth. They treat you like a real person, and they listen. When I gave them my nitrous number, they said "Ok, let's try it and see how it goes." They made me feel SO comfortable, that I didn't want as much nitrous on my second visit. I'll NEVER be a patient elsewhere. After avoiding the dentist for a decade, Dr. Harper has changed that.

In my early sixties I had a terrible experience with a tooth extraction at a "clinic" that was part of a chain. It took three visits to get the tooth removed and I was unable to be numbed completely. I was so traumatized I didn't want to get my teeth cleaned for fear of getting in the dentist chair again. I got up my nerve and started asking about dentist recommendation and Dr. Harper's name came up often. Dr. Harper was recommended to me by a woman I worked out with at the gym. She also had fear of going to the dentist until she started going to Dr. Harper. I have been going to Dr. Harper for many years now. He has filled teeth, put on crowns and referred me out when I had root canals and needed a tooth implant. I now have no fear of the dentist. Dr. Harper is kind, respectful and skillful to the point of having an artist for my teeth! Recently I decided to get veneers since my teeth were thin and grey looking from age. The process was not difficult. I had very little sensitivity during the temp stage and once the final product was placed there was no sensitivity. The entire staff at Dr. Harpers are warm, friendly and out for your best interest just like Dr. Harper. I wish there was a 10 star category because that is what I give Dr. Harper!!
