I absolutely love coming to Dr. Hutain. He has been my primary physician since I was little, and I cannot think of anyone else I would rather go to when I'm not feeling well. I've come to Dr. Hutain for any and every medical problem I've had, as well as regular check-ups and physicals. Calling the office for an appointment is a breeze and is usually handled by Janet. She is super sweet and always calls me "honey," "sweetie," or something of that nature. She will let you know what appointment times she has and asks what the issue is so she can find the perfect time for you. Dr. Hutain takes care of his patients and takes time to listen to what is going on and what is bothering them. You will not feel like your concerns go unnoticed here. You will have to wait, so I recommend not scheduling anything directly after your appointment here, just so you don't stress out about the time. There is a reason why his office is busy... because he is awesome. There have been a few times where I couldn't make it into the office but was feeling miserable, so I called the office and asked if it was possible to phone in a prescription for me. When I get sick, I get SUPER sick. So I needed something right away. I explained my situation and my symptoms, and Dr. Hutain took care of it for me. It's the little things, right? I have been seeing Dr. Hutain for over 10 years. I was with him back in the days when he had the birds. If you're a long-time patient, you know what I mean. I have struggled at times, in the past, with the front office and the medical assistants. You may see some complaints here in the reviews about this. There have been some pretty unprofessional and at times incompetent employees. BUT, though I miss the birds, the office is much more efficient and professional and mistakes are infrequent. At the heart of the matter is Dr. Hutain. He is genuinely friendly and compassionate. He is very positive and has a good sense of humor. He invites questions and I don't feel rushed. I was stressed when the primary doctor I had for 30 yrs retired--had no idea how I would ever find another PCP as wonderful as he was? But as I asked around I have several ppl tell me to try Dr. Hutain. It turned out to be better then I could of ever expected. He is very professional, knowledgeable and "really" genuinely cares about his patients---that's what comes across to me at each and every appt. I've been going there now for about 4 yrs or so and he's taken care of all my medical issues. (Which is quite a few!) I've been battling cancer so I deal with lots of medical problems and he is always so good about getting me right in to get me feeling better. There are so many doctors that "pretend" their listening to you and they haven't heard a word you said. Dr. Hutain IS listening and doesn't miss anything you say...he wants to see his patients better. Sometimes it does take a little longer in his waiting room to see him but that's only because he gives each patient the time they need so he can take care of them....verses chasing them out of the room in 3 minutes like so many other doctors do! (It seems most doctors spend about 3 or 4 minutes with you if your lucky...but NOT Hutain.) So if I have to wait a few minutes longer, all I can say is it's SO WORTH it. I always know he will give me the time needed if I have something serious going on. I know when I leave his office I will be on the mend thanks to Dr. Hutain. In the front office is Janet which is so nice. She schedules the appts and is so good at getting you in right away if necessary...and relaying messages to the doctor if needed. The office is always good about following up with me if I need a referral, or results to tests I've had. I really feel blessed to have such a great PCP...it's a major relief to me since I have so many medical issues. I have complete confidence in Dr. Hutain...we need more PCP's like him! read more

This is an absolutely horrible place. I went into this doctors office and was sure to inform them that they would be my first medical experience in my new city. Bad idea! Looks like they took advantage of me. Nurse bullies me into getting a blood test, starts adding on completely unnecessary things like vitamin levels, cholesterol, etc. I had no idea that these things weren't covered and I ended up with a 600$ blood test bill from wherever they sent me. What's even worse is that I called back twice a week for THREE weeks and each time I called, the rude receptionist said,"We are too busy to give you your results. We will contact you as soon as possible." THREE weeks I heard the same response. They never called me. Just received another bill from Royce Hutain. I refuse to pay. Absolutely horrible experience. I am giving Dr. Hutain 5 stars, because he is one of the best. You just don't find a doctor with this degree of compassion very easily. I am doing so with reservation, because of the recent changes... it has been a nightmare getting refills, records, anything red-tapey has been just turned upside down with the transition over to the St. Jude Heritage procedures. Dr. Hutain is the kind of doctor you are willing to "wait it out" for with such changes, and hope that the problems are simply due to transition and will right themselves with time. In the meantime, I call with PLENTY of time before I need my refill, and it has been going ok. I truly, truly hope things get back to running smoothly because I've truly felt blessed to have Dr. Hutain and his staff looking after me and my family members. But to give Dr. Hutain anything less than five stars would be, with my experience, dishonest of me. read more

Dr. Hutain is great, but the office is not patient friendly. The front office will not allow you to speak to or leave a message for the doctor. You can only see him or ask a question if you have an appointment. As a patient of over 20 years, I am sad to see that the personal relationship with the doctor is no longer available. I was a patient of Dr. Royce Hutain for about 3 years. He's knowledgeable, friendly, and takes the time to listen to my concerns. This was a change from my previous doctor who was not personable. His staff is for the most part friendly, and I've never had to wait for more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. I've never had a problem when I needed referrals, and the staff is on it to make sure you receive your paperwork. There was one time I needed to go in for vaccination, but the paperwork approval referral did not come in on time. I paid for the vaccination with my own money first, but Joni-Dr. Hutien's wife, who worked in the referral department at the time- was diligent, in helping me receive my money back from the health insurance company. I would say if you needed to make a Dr.'s appt, the wait is typically at least 1-2 weeks, maybe sooner if there happened to be a cancellation. Sometimes though, I've had to call a few times to reach an operator, as they don't have voicemail service, but it hasn't been that big of an issue. Because I've moved to Los Angeles, and Dr. Hutain is now part of a difference insurance network, I'm going to have to switch Dr.s. He's a good doctor, so if you're on the fence of using his services, I'd say go for it. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hutain. Yes, sometimes it is difficult to get in to see him and there have been times when I have had to wait but it's worth it. He takes his time with patients and never makes you feel like he is rushed. When I became a new patient, he actually sat down and went through all of the new patient forms that I had filled out and discussed what I had written down. after about a two hour wait, the medical assistant brought us to the back. first mistake, she began the history, vital signs after bringing back the wrong chart, someone with a similar name. second mistake: she insisted medication names did not matter. I said the medication she insisted my husband was on was no where in his history, in fact would be dangerous to him. i was polite but amazed, it was as though she thought all medications were the same. she started to chart he needed a refill of this incorrect medication. she seemed irate when i insisted that he get a refill of the the correct medication. (i had been taught that in the medical field included in the five rights of medication administration are the right patient and right medication name.) i corrected her both times in a polite manner. nevertheless, my husband and I were appalled when she whispered to me that "you'll be paying for this." hubbie & I discussed it on the way home. apparently her way of making me pay (revenge?) was to tell dr. hutaine i was "confrontational." labeled by this incompetent medical assistant as confrontational (for politely insisting on the correct patient chart & the correct medication) and the doc apparently stood by her, and , the following happened on our next visit: after the perfunctuary hour and a half wait i was prohibited to go back with him to the waiting room... ironic since hubby is bipolar and i have 12 years experience as a mental health professional, and between my seeing first hand the effects of the eight meds he is on and my clinical experience i would think i would be considered a resource as opposed to a hinderance. never again is all i can say.. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hutain's for seven years. He is the most wonderful, caring and professional Doctor I have ever had. Because of this, his practice is very busy, therefore, non-emergency visits such as routine check-ups and physicals require advance scheduling. However, if you have an urgent need you can usually be seen within 24 hours or sooner depending on the issue. If you want a Doctor who truly cares about you and your well being, I highly recommend Dr. Hutain. read more

love the doc, the front office staff is great. why i no longer go there: 1.) unbelievable back office staff is what makes or breaks it for me- rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional, incompetent. 2.) if you have an appointment at one you can be sure you will be there until at least four thirty to five, so eat lunch beforehand and cancel out half your day. two HUGE deal breakers, dont have the time or patience for back office staff, ditto for hours upon hours of waiting!! read more

Doctor Royce Hutain is nice and pleasant but his staff is rude (mostly the receptionist). When I called to set-up an appointment the receptionist was rude and unhelpful. When I spoke to her, it seemed as if I was inconveniencing her by setting up an appointment. Finally when I got an appointment to see the doctor the staff then screwed up my paper work for the lab work I was trying to have done. I haven't gone back since and would recommend you find a current, up-to-date doctors office to visit.... the waiting room is old and they have a separate enclosure full of birds (I don't know how sanitary it is to have birds in a doctor's office). read more

I've been going to Dr. Hutain for about 6 years. He is very compassionate and takes his time during each visit. Yes I have to wait a little longer then I'd like but it's a lot better then being rushed through like cattle and not being heard as with prior dr's. Janet has been with him forever and is all business but has a heart of gold. She will do her best to get you in if she can. She may seem stern but she is actually really nice. Nobody is perfect. The nurse is a little much but i'll deal with her for the great service of the dr. Great service and yes I highly recommend Dr. Hutain. Kudos!!! read more

I don't get these few people who gave a bad review they must be idiots or people who expect the world to drop everything and bow to them. This doctor is the most decent doctor I've ever met and the only one that always seems to care. I just came from there I did not have an appointment and they took me in for a urinary infection immediately and he gave me a prescription. I would have had to go to emergency room because every doctor had a 3 week wait at least when I told them I was peeing blood they said they could not see me any sooner. Dr. Hutain took me right away. Also he office staff was nice. If you are lucky enough to see him I guarantee you you'll be happy with his service. read more

The office of Dr. Hutain is one of the most unprofessional and apathetic that I have ever encountered. When speaking on the phone, the receptionists are very cold and talk very condescendingly at times. They do not know how to talk calmly to patients that suffer from, say, depression, and are extremely insensitive when reached out to for help. Additionally, the practice holds odd and inconvenient hours, and their way of going about business is very disorganized. I highly do NOT recommend this practice. read more

I recently moved to Anaheim from Colorado. I was told by a family member that Dr. Hutain was the best general MD to go to. He was supposedly very dedicated to his practice and he makes the patient feel like they come first. That may be the case, I don't know. What I do know is that it is nearly impossible to get in to see the doctor. As a new patient I was expecting warm welcome for my business. When I called to make an appointment with Dr. Hutain, his receptionist nearly laughed at me when I asked if an appointment for a new patient consult and yearly physical would be possible within a two week time frame. I made an appointment for a month out. When I needed to reschedule, I was told that it would be impossible. I then asked for a referral to a doctor whose schedule was more flexible and was told, "Honey, just look at your insurance carrier's website." After imploring the receptionist for a referral, I heard pages turning and she finally gave me the name of a doctor. My guess is that it came from the phone book. I am very disappointed and will not be entrusting my care to this practice. read more
